A brilliant young cryptocurrency pioneer named Nikolai Mushegian tweeted on Oct. 28 that intelligence agencies were going to murder him — and was found dead on a Puerto Rico beach hours later. “CIA and Mossad and pedo elite are running some kind of sex trafficking entrapment blackmail ring out of Puerto Rico and Caribbean islands,” Mushegian, a developer of blockchain-based decentralized finance platforms who wanted to end global banking corruption, tweeted at 4:57 a.m. “They are going to frame me with a laptop planted by my ex [girlfriend] who was a spy. They will torture me to death.” The 29-year-old...

The clamor of second graders breaking away from lessons to form lunch lines has gotten quieter in a rural New Mexico community, where families losing coal jobs have been forced to pack up and leave in search of work. At Judy Nelson Elementary, 1 in 4 students have left in an exodus spurred by decisions made five years ago to shutter a coal-fired power plant and mine that sit just up the road from the school in a largely Navajo community. The plant and mine had provided electricity to millions of people across the southwestern U.S. for nearly a half-century....

Hero flight attendants fought off an enraged passenger who attempted to storm the cockpit of a JetBlue flight out of Boston this week — at one point being heard saying “Allah” — in a brutal clash that has once again raised questions about airline safety. That passenger on JetBlue Flight 261 heading to San Juan, Puerto Rico, Wednesday night “had to be physically restrained by flight crew members … during the passenger’s attempt to gain access to the flight deck,” an FBI agent states in his affidavit. The suspect, Khalil El Dahr, “became angry” after a phone call he tried...

At the Condado Vanderbilt hotel in San Juan, Puerto Rico, Christian Correa clocked in to work the night-shift as a doorman and braced for the worst. Correa, who is also a bellman at the hotel, has seen a surge in American tourists coming to the US territory in the last three months and the hotel has been busy. Although he used to enjoy high season before the pandemic, recently, many tourists arriving to Puerto Rico have enraged local residents and hospitality workers as the island eases its Covid-19 restrictions. “The tourists think they can do whatever they want,” says Correa,...

The new administration of the City of San Juan reports that it has found hundreds of food packages and other supplies which had been donated to address the emergencies as a result of Hurricane María and the earthquakes in the southwestern region of the island. The images were revealed in the TV program "Jay and his X-Rays" (Telemundo), which show from blue tarps to water bottle pallets, first aid kits, rice, beans, batteries and other essential items. All expired and some spoiled. 'El Nuevo Día' attempted to contact former Mayor of San Juan Carmen Yulín Cruz for a reaction but...

(Translation) Many independence supporters [in Puerto Rico] have argued that they have not been given the chance to administer public affairs in the island so as to demonstrate that they are different from the [the two main parties] the New Progressive Party (PNP) and the Popular Democratic Party (PPD). What most resembles the central government in size and complexity is the Municipality of San Juan, which has been run for the past 8 years by a pro-independence political leader. The result? The same as, or worse than, what is said of the PNP and PPD, with every reason. It's not...

by Lauren Hass In September 2017, Hurricane Maria slammed Puerto Rico, leaving many dead and millions desperately needing emergency supplies. The Trump Administration rapidly put the U.S. military and FEMA into action, delivering tens of millions of dollars in supplies to San Juan to be distributed. But corrupt San Juan mayor Carmen Yulín Cruz attacked Trump, falsely claiming he didn't do enough, and was "leaving us to starve and die" because of "racism." CNN championed Cruz' lies, putting her on air over 100 times in just weeks to slam Trump, even making her T-shirts to spread the propaganda: This...

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (AP) — Three officials with Puerto Rico’s Senate were arrested by FBI agents Thursday and later charged by the U.S. territory’s federal prosecutor with alleged corruption for a case involving a scheme to defraud the legislature using “ghost employees.” Federal prosecutor Rosa Emilia Rodríguez said 18 charges were brought against Ángel Figueroa Cruz, director of the Senate Office of Government Affair; Isoel Sánchez Santiago, an assistant to the Senate president; and Chrystal Robles Báez, a contractor to the body. “This kind of practice is not going to be tolerated where federal funds are involved,” Rodríguez told...

Washington — Although the Federal Emergency Management Agency denied Puerto Rico's request to dispatch forensic units to Puerto Rico to help process a mounting backlog of bodies, the island's government has received a much-need reprieve. The fiscal board which controls spending in the U.S. territory will allow Gov. Ricardo Rosselló to use $1.5 million in funding to curtail the backlog in the island's morgue. …(snip) ...he FEMA official said these issues could be not be "attributed" to the natural disasters that struck the island, which triggered the first DMORT deployment. "These and the other courses of action ... address systemic...

It has been nearly three months since Hurricane Maria devastated Puerto Rico, and the island’s recovery has been slow. The U.S. territory is struggling with shortages of food and medical supplies, and a full 45% of residents still don’t have power.San Juan Mayor Carmen Yulín Cruz blames Washington for failing to devote adequate resources to Puerto Rico’s recovery — she recently dubbed President Trump the “disaster-in-chief”. But a journalist for El Nuevo Día, the newspaper with the largest circulation in Puerto Rico, has found a different culprit: “the Jew.”Columnist Wilda Rodríguez wrote a piece on Monday, titled “What Does ‘The...
