The name “Pelosi” has roots in the Latin word “pilus,” meaning “hair.” So perhaps it’s somewhat poetic that, in this foulest of years, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi finds herself tangled up in a ridiculous scandal involving an illicit salon appointment. Pelosi breezed into San Francisco’s eSalon for a wash and blow-dry last Monday despite the fact that, as everyone else in that city knows, public health rules ban indoor salon services in the middle of this deadly coronavirus pandemic. Security camera footage leaked to Fox News showed a wet-headed Pelosi walking through the establishment unmasked. Read more here: https://www.modbee.com/opinion/article245478630.html#storylink=cpy

"There was no way I could've set that up," Kious fired back. "I've had a camera system in there for five years. I mean, I didn't go in there and turn cameras on as soon as she walked in and set her up. So that is absolutely false." Salons in San Francisco had been closed since March and could only reopen for outdoor hairstyling services on Sept. 1. Pelosi said she understood that coronavirus restrictions allowed for a one-on-one appointment indoors. "I heard that," Kious told Carlson, "and I thought to myself, 'Well as a hairstylist, I see clients one-on-one....

A trip to a San Francisco salon has turned into a controversy for House Speaker Nancy Pelosi whose office tells KTVU she didn't think she did anything wrong by getting her hair done indoors on Monday . Security footage, reported on FOX News, showed Pelosi with wet hair and without a mask inside of eSalon in apparent defiance of COVID-19 rules. In San Francisco, face coverings are mandatory in most public settings. Salons may only cut hair outdoors under new rules that took effect today. “The Speaker always wears a mask and complies with local COVID requirements. This business offered...

The Dallas County Commissioners Court adopted a resolution Tuesday accusing Gov. Greg Abbott and Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick of perpetuating white supremacy after they criticized a black judge for jailing a salon owner who reopened her business against the governor’s stay-at-home orders. The resolution describes Shelley Luther, the white owner of Salon à la Mode, as a “lawbreaker” and said the governor’s and lieutenant governor’s intervention into her jail sentencing by Dallas County Judge Eric Moyé, who is black, reintroduced issues of racism and white superiority in Dallas.

Professional haircuts are becoming available again at last. But as states begin to ease coronavirus lockdown orders, salons across the country are reopening with new safety protocols, which in some cases means not allowing back certain hair-care staples. “We’re not doing beard trims, lip waxes, nose waxes - anything on the face except for eyebrows,” salon owner Ashe Bowen tells The Post of the new rules their Denver salon has put in place since reopening on Saturday. One treatment that has proven perhaps surprisingly contentious for parlors coming out of lockdown? Blowouts. When Connecticut Gov. Ned Lamont announced that state...

The Center for American Liberty filed a federal lawsuit Tuesday against California Gov. Gavin Newsom on behalf of the Professional Beauty Federation of California (PBFC) in an attempt to reopen hair salons statewide. The organization, in collaboration with the Dhillon Law Group, represents more thn 500,000 hair salon owners who want salons to be reclassified from stage three in California’s reopening process, and be allowed to open now. “They’re licensed professionals with degrees [in] safety and sanitation… it doesn’t make sense why nail & beauty salons remain closed, it's injustice," plaintiff attorney Harmeet Dhillon said at a press conference Tuesday.

The nation's indoor tanning industry was unfairly targeted when Congress imposed a 10 percent tax on its services as a way to help pay for the federal health-care reform bill, several Tulsa-area tanning salon owners say. The tax went into effect Thursday and is expected to raise $2.7 billion toward a $940 billion health-care overhaul. At first, the tax was aimed at the cosmetic surgery industry. But it was transformed at the last minute into what is known as the "tanning tax" in an effort to prevent skin cancer. Tabetha Folds, who owns Second Sun Tanning Salon, 4715 E. 11th...

The Washington Post's ill-fated plan to sell sponsorships of off-the-record "salons" was an ethical lapse of monumental proportions. Publisher Katharine Weymouth and Executive Editor Marcus Brauchli have now taken full responsibility for what was envisioned as a series of 11 intimate dinners to discuss public policy issues. For a fee of up to $25,000, underwriters were guaranteed a seat at the table with lawmakers, administration officials, think tank experts, business leaders and the heads of associations. Promotional materials said Weymouth, Brauchli and at least one Post reporter would serve as "Hosts and Discussion Leaders" for an evening of spirited but...
