CNBC apparently had no problem treating Sen. Mitt Romney’s (R-UT) coronavirus plan to give “every” American $1,000 as a rational idea. CNBC came right off the bat to make the senator look like some sort of philanthropist: “GOP Sen. Mitt Romney proposed on Monday sending every American adult $1,000 to ease the financial pain of the coronavirus pandemic that has tanked global markets and threatened to grind U.S. economic activity to a halt.” Did the outlet consider the irony that such a policy could require massive spending and tax increases that would further “grind U.S. economic activity to a halt”?

Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Utah) is calling for the federal government to issue a $1,000 check “to each American” to help offset the cost of dealing with the coronavirus. In a statement issued Monday, outlined his coronavirus proposals and called for the thousand-dollar checks to be issued “immediately”:

Mitt Romney called on the federal government to send every adult $1,000 immediately to help cope financially with the economic damage caused by the spread of the coronavirus. “Every American adult should immediately receive $1,000 to help ensure families and workers can meet their short-term obligations and increase spending in the economy,” Romney, a Utah Republican senator and 2012 presidential nominee, said in a statement.

The bad news: His favorable rating among Republicans today is a point lower than it was among Democrats on the eve of the 2012 election. Think of that. Righties are entirely correct when they point how fickle the left has been in its esteem for Romney but even the left never disliked him as much as his own party currently does because of his impeachment vote. And the overall shift in opinion of him among Republicans since 2012 is about twice as large as it is among Democrats. The good news: If he can’t get reelected in Utah, he could...

U.S. Senator Mitt Romney will vote to allow a subpoena in a Senate Republican investigation of Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden's businessman son, Hunter Biden, his office said on Friday.
  • Mitt Romney’s vote to clear path for probe into Hunter Biden’s Burisma ties

WASHINGTON — Subpoenas into Hunter Biden’s work in Ukraine appear imminent after Sen. Mitt Romney’s office on Friday said he would vote in favor of the probe next week, according to a report. The Homeland Security Committee is gearing up for an investigation into the Bidens which could throw a roadblock in front of former veep Joe Biden’s presidential bid just as it gathers momentum. After criticizing the panel for what he called a politically motivated investigation, Romney will now vote in favor of the subpoena when the committee votes on it next Wednesday, Politico reported on Friday.

Mitt Romney became persona non grata in certain parts of the conservative movement last month by becoming the first senator of a president’s own party to ever vote to remove them from office. Romney indicated Thursday that he is skeptical about the need for the Senate Homeland Security Committee to issue a subpoena related to Hunter Biden’s work for Burisma Holdings, the Ukrainian energy company. “I would prefer that investigations are done by an independent, nonpolitical body,” Romney told The Post’s Mike DeBonis. “There’s no question the appearance is not good.” Republicans have a 8-to-6 majority, meaning Romney’s vote, when...

“There’s no question but that the appearance of looking into Burisma and Hunter Biden appears political,” Romney told reporters Thursday. “And I think people are tired of these kind of political investigations and would hope that if there’s something of significance that needs to be evaluated that it would be done by perhaps the FBI or some other agency that’s not as political as perhaps a committee of our body.”

Republicans gathered at the Conservative Political Action Conference on Thursday to cheer on their conservative heroes. But they also had an opportunity to shame GOP politicians they deemed not pro-Trump enough, casting ballots for the “phoniest ‘conservative’ lawmaker.” Next to a stuffed donkey with a fake elephant’s snout, attendees voted for the likes of former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-AK), and former Ohio Gov. John Kasich, who led the ballot count as of Thursday afternoon. One prominent GOP Trump critic wasn’t an option, though—because everybody already knew he’d win in a landslide.

Mitt Romney, who was the only Republican senator to break party lines and vote in favor of Donald Trump being impeached at his Senate trial earlier this month, is now attacking the president again. This time, the Utah senator is claiming that the Trump administration is totally unprepared for a potential coronavirus outbreak. As Trump tried to tamp concerns over the coronavirus in New Delhi, saying that the situation was “under control” and is a “problem that’s going to go away,” Romney was confronting officials in Washington D.C. at a private briefing on the virus. As a member of the...

If you were wondering how Nancy Pelosi has been handling the events of the past few months, it's safe to say she's not taking it well. She's been keeping a low profile after making a spectacle of herself at the 2020 State of the Union address, but over the weekend she gave an interview with CNN's Christiane Amanpour that must be seen to be believed. If reality won't do what Nancy wants, she'll just deny it's happening to her. ~snip~ Amanpour: What about, though, the fact that the president seems liberated? And this is about Democratic politics, so I'm not...

The Utah Republican Party is reportedly considering multiple resolutions following Sen. Mitt Romney’s vote to convict President Donald Trump in the impeachment trial, including a resolution calling for his resignation. According to local Salt Lake City news outlet 2KUTV, “the Utah Republican Party has pending resolutions on Romney: one that expresses support for Trump’s acquittal, another that supports legislation to recall a U.S Senator and a third that calls for Romney to ‘immediately resign’ from office.” The Utah GOP will possibly vote on these resolutions on Saturday, February 29, the report also states. It is unclear what kind of support...

Since Mitt Romney became the first senator in history to defy his party with a vote to convict in an impeachment trial, he's been called a "disgrace" by President Trump. He's been pilloried as a traitor each night on Fox News. And he's been formally censured by GOP organizations as far away as Louisiana.

This week House Judiciary Chairman Jerrold Nadler (D-NY) sent a letter to Attorney General William Barr warning him "to not go too far with this whole Ukrainian thing" and "to stop listening to Giuliani." President Donald Trump's lawyer Rudy Giuliani claims to have witnesses and evidence implicating the Obama White House in a covert attempt to use US government resources in an illegal operation to undermine the 2016 Trump campaign. "The great irony of the whole 'Russian collusion' accusation against Donald Trump is that it was President Obama, the FBI, and CIA that were colluding against Trump," Guiliani said. "That's...

In casting his singular vote to impeach and remove Donald Trump from office, Mitt Romney made history. Now it’s time for him to take a step further. For the good of the country, Senator Romney should run for president as an independent. With the democratic-socialist Bernie Sanders now the Democratic frontrunner and the political arsonist Donald Trump as the Republican incumbent, there is a yawning chasm that has never before existed in American politics. By retreating to their poles, our two major parties have left tens of millions of independents and moderate Democrats and Republicans unrepresented.

Romney, along with Republican Maine Sen. Susan Collins, voted last week to allow for additional witnesses to testify at the impeachment trial. The measure ended up failing 49-51 after other moderate Republicans joined the rest of the party in voting no. As Romney “has said, he wants to hear from Ambassador Bolton, and he will vote in favor of the motion today to consider witnesses,” Johnson tweeted. But he stunned everyone as he becomes the only Republican to vote to convict President Donald Trump in the Democrat-led impeachment trial. But was that the only reason for his decision? A new...

President Trump has withdrawn his nomination of Jessie Liu to serve as a top Treasury Department official, Fox News has learned. The president’s move to withdraw Liu’s nomination comes just hours after four Justice Department lawyers quit following a move by senior leaders at the department to overrule the prosecutors' judgment by seeking a lesser sentence for long-time Trump ally Roger Stone after he was found guilty of lying to Congress. Liu is a former U.S. Attorney for Washington, D.C., who before her nomination oversaw the prosecutions of Stone and former Trump national security adviser Michael Flynn over charges of...

SALT LAKE CITY — Reaction to Sen. Mitt Romney’s vote to remove President Donald Trump from office has ranged from outrage to praise across the country and in Utah. Those mixed emotions are reflected in a new Deseret News/Hinckley Institute of Politics poll with KSL showing 22% of Utahns are disappointed and 21% are proud to have Romney as their senator in light of his vote to convict Trump. The poll also found that 14% are encouraged, 13% are pleased, 11% are embarrassed and 8% are angry. Another 11% weren’t sure. Given those results, Utah voters overall reaction to Romney’s...
