Many of us have hidden fears and hesitations when it comes to dealing with persons with severe disabilities. Their unfamiliar gestures, behaviors, and limitations can challenge us and infringe on our comfort zones. We may be tempted to apply a different standard when we deal with them. Even very young children with disabilities may suffer discrimination through denial of care as newborns, or through abortion in utero. During his presidential campaign, former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum and his wife Karen were often asked by people on the campaign trail about their daughter Bella, who was born with Trisomy 18, a...

During a panel discussion on CNN's State of the Union, Santorum suggested the kids were 'looking to someone else to solve their problem' 'They took action to ask someone to pass a law,' the former lawmaker said, calling gun control laws 'phony' Santorum was met with criticism by activists, including the daughter of the principal of Sandy Hook Elementary School and David Hogg of Parkland, Fla Former Pennsylvania Sen. Former Sen. Rick Santorum (R-Pa.) is throwing his support behind controversial presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump. "I'm 100 percent," Santorum said Tuesday during an interview on Fox News's "On The Record," when asked if he was supporting or endorsing Trump. "That's endorse." Santorum, who backed Marco Rubio after dropping out of the race himself in February, said he spoke with Trump more than a week ago and he said the businessman asked for his support. The former Senator indicated a top reason for endorsing Trump is the vacant Supreme Court seat. Santorum said he made a couple suggestions...

A new Gallup Poll shows most Americans want the government to take on a bigger role in health care. More than 1,500 people from across the country were surveyed, and 58 percent favor replacing the provisions set up by the Affordable Care Act with a federally funded health care program. The ACA, or Obamacare, lets Americans buy insurance through the federal government, but the survey shows most citizens want the government to just pay for everything, or at least that’s what they’re saying now. In recent years, Americans have waffled on whether the government should pay their medical bills. Polls...

Santorum Downplays Romney's Endorsement Haul, Compares Rival To McCain April 01, 2012 Rick Santorum fought Sunday to downplay Mitt Romney's growing list of endorsements from Republican Party figures, dismissing the support as the work of an "establishment" pushing the party to nominate another "moderate" just like John McCain in 2008. The former Pennsylvania senator, who bills himself as the true conservative in the race, urged the party to draw lessons from the 2008 race. He said the protracted primary between then-Sen. Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton resulted in the "best candidate" for the Democrats, while Republicans decided, "We've got to...

“Well, I think it would be a bad idea to put little girls in a bathroom with grown men,” Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) told CNN on Thursday. But the senator also made it clear that the issue is not one of major national importance, as far as he is concerned: “All I can say is that the only bathroom I can control is in my office, and you can use the bathroom in my office without bringing your birth certificate.” …

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — A Virginia high school discriminated against a transgender teen by forbidding him from using the boys' restroom, a federal appeals court ruled Tuesday in a case that could have implications for a North Carolina law that critics say discriminates against LGBT people. The case of Gavin Grimm has been especially closely watched since North Carolina enacted a law last month that bans transgender people from using public restrooms that correspond to their gender identity. That law also bans cities from passing anti-discrimination ordinances, a response to an ordinance recently passed in Charlotte. In the Virginia case,...

Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump has a small lead over John Kasich in the Pennsylvania GOP primary, a new poll finds. A Franklin & Marshall College poll released Thursday found Trump taking 36 percent to Kasich's 33 percent. That’s within the poll’s 4.7 percentage point margin of error. Ted Cruz is in third place, at 20 percent.

There was considerable mockery after former Sen. Rick Santorum (R-PA) spectacularly failed to name a single Rubio accomplishment when he endorsed Rubio a few weeks ago, but it eventually died down. Then, Nevada Congressman Rep. Cresent Hardy ran into the same problem this week. On this week’s Fox News Sunday, Chris Wallace (who previously laid waste to Rubio’s small list of accomplishments) asked Rubio why his surrogates can’t name a single accomplishment, and Rubio’s response was just stunning: WALLACE: Senator, why can’t officials who support you, who come out to endorse you, name a specific accomplishment of your time in...

I know there are some of you who are willing to do what it takes to win but you want to make sure you do so with character and integrity. There’s a line you don’t want to cross. You are fine going up to that line and doing whatever you can that is within bounds but you don’t want to cross that line and I am totally with you on that. I am going to walk you through this faux outrage story regarding Ben Carson and Ted Cruz. I’m going to walk you through a timeline but before I do,...

Pennsylvania Sen. Pat Toomey endorsed Marco Rubio for president Wednesday, describing the Florida senator as a "thoughtful conservative leader" he believes will appeal to voters in Pennsylvania and across the country. Just hours later, former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum quit the presidential race and also endorsed Rubio, calling him a "born leader" who shares his views on the central role of the family and on the national security threats facing the country. The support from Toomey and Santorum comes as Rubio is seeking to solidify backing from the GOP establishment after his third-place finish in Iowa. Toomey, a Republican from...

Thanks for standing with me all of these years. Your steadfast support and commitment to fighting important conservative battles has meant so much to Karen and me. As you may have heard, I announced tonight that I will be ending my Presidential campaign. While the results were not what we had hoped, the experience of running for President was tremendously gratifying and something I won't soon forget. And as Karen and I discussed leaving the Presidential race, we also talked about who we should support now that I am stepping aside. There are many qualified, conservative candidates in the race...

Former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum is dropping out of the race for the White House, sources told CNN Wednesday....Earlier Wednesday, libertarian-minded Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul also announced that he was ending his presidential bid.

HENNIKER, N.H. - For months, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Tex.) has tried to poach libertarian-leaning voters here away from Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.). Now, with Paul's exit from the race, Cruz has even more of an opening to make inroads with supporters of the Kentucky Republican. Cruz is running as a tea-party darling and evangelical Christian, constituencies that helped propel him to victory in the Iowa caucuses. But he is also attempting to expand that base, particularly with libertarian-leaning supporters. Here in New Hampshire, Cruz speaks of limited government, gun rights and privacy. "But part of the reason we're more competitive...

Wednesday on Fox News Channel’s “America’s Newsroom,†Republican presidential candidate former Gov. Jeb Bush (R-FL) said after his opponent Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL)79% came in a close third in the Iowa caucus which was far below where he was poling, the suggestion that other candidates drop put so Rubio has a clear path to the nomination is “absolutely absurd.†Host Martha MacCallum asked, “This morning Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY)94% dropped out of this race. There is a lot of talk in Republican circles that there is pressure on you and others to get out and pave the way for Marco...

As one listed as a potential delegate for Rick Santorum from Tennessee, I wanted to say a few words since there are reports that he will possibly be dropping out this evening (and I will be out of pocket for much of the evening, including the time of his supposed announcement). I have been a Rick Santorum supporter for years. I make absolutely no apology for that. Over the years he hasn't just talked the talk, but he has taken the arrows. He has had the courage of his convictions. He's taken the arrows from the left perhaps more than...
