Rick Perry, who has twice dropped out of races for the Republican presidential nomination, isn't ruling out another shot at the White House. The former Texas governor told CNN that he wouldn't be surprised if there's a brokered convention for the Republican nomination this year - and hinted if that happened he might be ready to give it another go. (snip) Perry said if there's a "brokered" convention then it would be "a whole new ballgame for everyone." Without a clear consolidation of the field, many have floated the possibility of Republicans going to Cleveland this summer without a presumptive...

The Perry case is an indictment of Texas’s culture of corruption. Rick Perry, arguably the most successful American governor in a generation, is in forced retirement. Rosemary Lehmberg, the vodka-swilling, retribution-promising, drunk-driving human dumpster fire who indicted Governor Perry for exercising the ordinary powers of his office — vetoing funding for her office — remains in power. That, in short, is what is wrong with Texas — and the country. Puff Daddy, or whatever his name is now, has a friend in Rosemary Lehmberg. The hip-hop impresario is an endorser of Cîroc vodka, and Lehmberg, who in her role at...

A lower court had already dismissed the coercion charge, ruling that the law it was based on was unconstitutionally vague. The Court of Criminal Appeals upheld that dismissal. As to the abuse of power charge, the court ruled the Governor's veto power cannot be infringed on: "The governor's power to exercise a veto may not be circumscribed by the Legislature, by the courts, or by district attorneys (who are members of the judicial branch). When the only act that is being prosecuted is a veto, then the prosecution itself violates separation of powers."

The top criminal appeals court in Texas just dismissed the nearly two-year-old felony indictment against former Texas Gov. Rick Perry. The first of two charges against Perry was dismissed last July.Today’s dismissal by the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals of the second charge against Perry marks the end of the case against him: Texas’ highest criminal court tossed the second and final felony charge against former Gov. Rick Perry on Wednesday, likely ending a case the Republican says helped sink his short-lived 2016 presidential bid. The Texas Court of Criminal Appeals dismissed the abuse-of-power charge, which was filed after...
