The left is salivating about using the pandemic crisis to force massive changes to American society. Average Americans, of course, just want to go back to work or to the mall or to … church. And those desires -- in particular the last one -- could present a formidable stumbling block in the sprint to the new progressive future. Despite years of eager predictions to the contrary, “the opiate of the masses” is not dead. In fact, it’s feeling better. Since the pandemic began, secular progressives in the media have been spewing venom at Evangelical Christians, blaming their purportedly anti-science...

On his MSNBC show this evening, Al Sharpton played the audio of his radio-show interview of President Obama in which the president, commenting on the failure of the Super Committee, said "my religious faith" makes him believe at some point Republicans will agree to raise taxes. Even the Reverend Al couldn't take PBO's reference to his religious faith seriously, as he can be heard chuckling in the background. View the video here.

The Virtue of Tolerance by Rev. Robert A. Sirico, Acton President The holiday season is a time for love of children, compassion for the poor, and good will toward all—and a good deal of religious acrimony. Every year we hear stories of lawsuits and bitter fights over which religious symbols can be displayed in public. This year the big issue concerns cases in New York City, and Palm Beach, Florida, where symbols of the Islamic and Jewish faiths are freely displayed but Christian ones are not permitted. The Thomas More Law Center is assisting plaintiffs who claim that this...

Every year, I try to encourage parents to have copies of the original proclamation of the Thanksgiving Day Holiday by George Washington, distributed in local public schools, on the day before the holiday. The link Thanksgiving Project, will take you to the Proclamation and a description and explanation of the proposed project. I recognize that in most large cities, with a known ACLU presence, few school personnel are going to rush out and embrace this. But perhaps in some of the small towns, it could become an annual occurence. Only positive things would result. William Flax
