I remember a few years back during the Good Ol' Days we had ... a George W. Bush as president of the White House. I didn't really appreciate what people meant when they believed the United States was the country most dangerous to world security and stability at that point in time yet. (See my post America the Dangerous). By the way, just as in the post below, please send me corrections. I would hate to think that I would be propagating something untrue. Ahh. Those were the good ol' days. The U.S. economy was booming (after a sharp, but...

The Jack Welch MBA by: Deborah Lambert, July 15, 2009 In the case of former GE CEO Jack Welch, you name a degree after him. The Wall Street Journal reported that Welch is “paying more than $2 million for a 12 percent stake in Chancellor University System LLC, which is converting a formerly bankrupt university into an online entity—and naming its Business Administration Program the “Jack Welch Institute.” This didn’t happen overnight. Welch, a former skeptic of online programs, had to be convinced that this one would be a high quality product, worthy of his name. The Chancellor project is...

New Audio from Dr. Ayman al-Zawahiri: “A Message to My Muslim Brothers and Sisters in Pakistan” By Evan Kohlmann SNIPPET: "The NEFA Foundation has obtained a new audio recording produced by Al-Qaida's As-Sahab Media Foundation of Al-Qaida Deputy Commander Dr. Ayman al-Zawahiri titled, "A Message to My Muslim Brothers and Sisters in Pakistan." During the recording, al-Zawahiri appealed to Muslims in Pakistan to support Al-Qaida and the Taliban..."

Here is video today of Sen. Lindsey Graham questioning Supreme Court nominee Judge Sonia Sotomayor. Graham confronted Sotomayor with her quote from numerous speeches in which she said she would hope that a "wise Latina woman would come to a better decision (as a judge) than an average white male." Graham worked the exchange to a high point where he pointedly told Sotomayor that if he, as a white male, had ever said anything even close to what she did, his career would be over. He asked her if she could understand that? She said that she could understand how...

It has come to my attention that there have been allegations that conservatives hate the idea of legal aid and indignant defense. Allegations that the republican party wants to prevent the poor who can't afford a lawyer from getting one when they are accused of a crime or suffer civil injustice or whatever. Thoughts of a poor single black mother wrongfully accused in a court with rich plaintiffs with 7 digit salary attorneys all alone against a complicated legal system also come to mind. Relax. It isn't true. In fact it has been found in some cases to be the...

It seems to me that what America needs today -and needs badly- is a return to good old "Common Sense". during the revolutionary period pamphleteers and broadsiders were the equivalent of today's blogger and perhaps one of the most influential of those pamphleteers was Thomas Pain and his "Common Sense".

Although millions of American have been watching Michael Jackson’s funeral, the new administration has been very busy in Russia and Europe. Heads Up America! There is a new world order taking place and guess what? A new world currency is coming to the US Mint soon. The Socialist/Keyensian economic policies have made their way across the oceans to American shores... "The US dollar cannot and should not take all the responsibility for the world monetary system. We need a stable and serious transition to new international monetary regime," argued Jeffrey D. Sachs, director of the Earth Institute of Columbia University...

Presidential Succession by: Emily Kanyi, July 10, 2009 After the 9/11 terrorist attack it became clear that the U.S. was not immune to acts of violence that could infiltrate the country’s heart of business and power causing massive destruction and loss of life. It also became clear that the country needed to put into place a system that would facilitate an easy succession to the presidency in the “face of a catastrophic attack that would kill or incapacitate multiple individuals in the line of succession,” according to a June 2009 report jointly released by the American Enterprise Institute (AEI) and...

The doctrine of karma states that one's state in this life is a result of actions (both physical and mental) in past incarnations, and action in this life can determine one's destiny in future incarnations. Ladies and gentlemen, allow me to introduce the Karmic Koala, the newest member of our alliterative menagerie. Mark Shuttleworth introduces Ubuntu 9.10-Karmic Koala! A good Koala knows how to see the wood for the trees, even when her head is in the clouds. Ubuntu aims to keep free software at the forefront of cloud computing by embracing the API’s of Amazon EC2, and making it...

I have attempted to remain open minded throughout the investigation of Air France Flight 447. I had hoped that the Bureau d’Enquêtes et d’Analyses (BEA) would come forward and present the facts as known. The evidence shows this is not the case and as a matter of fact, the only reason Thales pitots are still on the Airbus airplanes is for the protection of European companies and their European labor/workers. One would think that Boeing might want to update their complaint with the World Trade Organization (WTO)? The European aviation industry is more concerned with their own business interest and...

SNIPPET: "So, I’m finally sitting down with this 149 page-book, entitled, “The Ruling on the Muslim Spy.” Here’ s what I’ve noticed off-the-bat about Dr. Ayman al-Zawahiri’s forward." SNIPPET: "But then I remembered that the big-daddy al-Zawahiri’s ‘best-of’ list can be extracted from his winding book, Exoneration. In this book, al-Zawahiri drafts his all-star list, which includes everyone above and a whole lot more. It’s a ‘who’s who’ of contemporary jihadi thought. Test yourself and see how many you can identify. There’s some little gems buried in this list… Shaykh Ahmad Shakir Shaykh Mahmud Shakir Shaykh Muhammad Ibn-Ibrahim Al al-Shaykh...

Readers of Needs of the Many know I haven’t been on the racial guilt bandwagon … ever. If you’re an ass, you’re an ass. If you’re a success, you’re as success … that should be applauded. I recently wrote a very popular post about how I reject the term “reverse racism.” The simple fact is that a major portion of the black community uses their race to get away with mediocrity, and it is an insult to the great successes of the black community … which are numerous. It’s also in direct contradiction to what Dr. King advocated. Bill Cosby,...

ThereÂ’s a debate about whether a government-mandated health care system would be cheaper for America.†‬I thought this was obvious.†ItÂ’s understandably becoming hard to get to the bottom of this issue because of the words the administration uses‬.†‬The administration calls it†“‬universal health care,â€Â” ‬veiling what it actually is,†‬a government monopolized health care system.†‬When youÂ’re determining whether or not government ought to take over an industry,†‬think of it this way:†‬Which one is cheaper and provides more valueâ€? ‬A†‬competitive free market or a monopolyâ€? Everything the government has taken over has turned out wrecked,â€...

Heroic Hollywood: Thinking Inside the Box by Russ Dvonch In this post, I want to give some advice to beginning screenwriters who are having difficulty finishing — or even starting — their first screenplay. I’ve been mulling over what to say for several weeks now, trying to come up with some inspirational words of advice to motivate you into achieving your goal. After much thought and deep-dish contemplation, I’ve boiled my advice down to this: If you want to write for Hollywood, think like a hack writer and stick to the Hollywood Formula. How’s that for inspiring rhetoric? Now, most...

The Obama administration will proceed with a Bush-era plan to use National Security Agency assistance in screening government computer traffic on private-sector networks, with AT&T as the likely test site, according to three current and former government officials. — “We absolutely intend to use the technical resources, the substantial ones, that NSA has. But . . . they will be guided, led and in a sense directed by the people we have at the Department of Homeland Security,” the department’s secretary, Janet Napolitano, told reporters in a discussion about cybersecurity efforts. … The program is the most controversial element of...

"Winds of Paradise 4: Observation 1" SNIPPET: "Al-Qaida really outdid itself with Winds of Paradise 4. Two things up front. On the one hand, this video confirms that we’ve killed a lot of their young guns. That’s undeniably awesome. On the other hand, they have a much deeper bench than I had suspected. And I’m talking about guys out there doing it jihadi-style, not sitting in their mom’s basements. This is undeniably not awesome. This video, in fact this whole series, is dissertation worthy (hint hint all grad students out there looking for a good topic). There’s so much material here,...
