Boston Mayor Michelle Wu is not dreaming of a white Christmas — party, that is. An invite concerning the Boston mayor’s holiday party, specifically for “Electeds of Color,” was mistakenly sent by an aide to all members of the Boston City Council. Some 15 minutes later, that aide, Denise DosSantos, who serves as the mayor’s director of City Council relations, blasted up a follow-up email flagging the embarrassing error. “I wanted to apologize for my previous email regarding a Holiday Party for tomorrow,” DosSantos wrote. The white councilors were not supposed to receive an invite. “I did send that to...

Sunday’s Washington Post Magazine carried an article on black conservative Herschel Walker’s campaign for Senate, and you could tell it would accentuate the negative. It was headlined: Herschel Walker’s Longest Run For this Trump-endorsed candidate, does a troubled past even matter? In paragraph #4, freelancer John Rosengren reveals he’s not stalking the former star running back for a puff piece: I’m here, in part, because I want to see for myself if Walker’s campaign in Georgia reflects the nation’s new norm in post-Trumpian politics. Can enough celebrity sparkle and Trump rhetoric, coupled with some distortion of facts and often a...

amarcus Purley, a staffer who was recently fired from Sen. Dianne Feinstein’s (D-CA) office, said in a Wednesday interview the senator “cares more about her dog than black people.” Breitbart News reported that Purley, after he was fired from Feinstein’s office for performance-related issues, entered the U.S. Capitol and smoked a marijuana blunt in the California Democrat’s office. Now, the disgruntled staffer spoke to Latino Rebels about his experience with Feinstein’s office, alleging the senior Democrat senator from California cares little for black Americans. When he joined Feinstein’s job as a staff assistant, an entry-level job on Capitol Hill, Purley...

The Oregon Department of Education is promoting a program for teachers that seeks to “disman[tle] racism in mathematics,” alleging that focusing on finding the right answer is a symbol of white supremacy. Fox News reported that the ODE sent out a newsletter last week that mentions a “Pathway to Math Equity Micro-Course” that will occur on February 21. The course, according to Fox, is designed for middle school teachers to make use of a toolkit for ‘dismantling racism in mathematics.’” The newsletter encourages teachers to sign up for the training, which the New York Post previously reported includes a section...

In 1921, Tulsa was home to one of the most prosperous African American communities in the country. Businesses flourished along Greenwood Avenue — dubbed Black Wall Street, according to tradition, by the great educator Booker T. Washington. Residential neighborhoods spread out in a bustling community of several thousand souls. In a little more than 12 hours, it was gone. A riot that began at the Tulsa County Courthouse on the night of May 31, 1921, escalated into an all out assault on Greenwood on the morning of June 1. White mobs stormed through the community setting fires, stealing and killing...

Growing up, I moved in almost exclusively Chinese friendship circles. My friends’ parents, all of whom were immigrants from China, always warmly welcomed me into their homes. I knew, though, that I would not have been welcome if I’d been black. For these Chinese parents, the worst thing that could happen would be for their child to pair up romantically with a black person. Clarence Thomas, one of nine members of the Supreme Court and the second black to ever join the Court, is not in the National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington, D.C. Asked to explain Thomas' absence, the chief spokeswoman for the Smithsonian said, "The museum's exhibitions are based on themes, not individuals." Yet the museum plans to add a popular local D.C. television news broadcaster. The museum's founding director, Lonnie Bunch, said the broadcaster "symbolized that it was really important that America was changing and his presence was a symbol of that change." And Thomas, raised in...

In his speech to the Republican National Convention earlier this year, actor Clint Eastwood told the assembled crowd that there are more conservatives and moderates in Hollywood than they might think. Such people “play closer to the vest. They do not go around hot dogging it,†Eastwood said. Unfortunately, actress Stacey Dash is finding out the hard way what happens to those celebrities who are willing to think for themselves: they get attacked by the very people who claim to preach “tolerance†and “peace.†(Note: This blog post is “not safe for work†and certainly not for children.) The self-proclaimed...

Stacey Dash recently tweeted her support for Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney, accompanied by a patriotic swimsuit picture of herself. But now her political viewpoint has become the subject of online attacks, with many expressing crude distaste that she isn’t endorsing President Obama – and race has become a key motivator behind the digital abuse. “You’re an unemployed black woman endorsing Mitt Romney. You’re voting against yourself thrice. You poor beautiful idiot,” one Twitter user wrote, while @Black Voice wrote, “Stacey Dash had a perm since birth. I knew I couldn’t trust her.. lol.” Others accused the actress of “voting...
