FAYETEVILLE, N.C. – A police officer is accused of burying puppies alive, officials said. Seven puppies were rescued from Officer John Leggett’s backyard. Leggett, 44, has been charged with animal cruelty and is now on administrative leave while under investigation. Police said at least one puppy was found dead. Officers were called to Leggett’s home Saturday. According to the Fayetteville Observer, Leggett’s daughter, Anna Alicia Leggett, called authorities at about 4:15 p.m. and reported that puppies were being buried alive.
