Many times we’re not aware of these mistake in the mechanics or finger placement but we are very aware of their effects on paper. (our groupings) Here are some quick tips to turbo charge your basics that you may have forgotten. Slow Down – Everybody wants to shoot fast, but when shooting that fast you give up accuracy. Get into a rhythm then you can speed it up.Dry Fire – This...

So in the concealed and open carry world most firearms schools teach the two common techniques while drawing and firing the pistol. That is, the isosceles and the weaver method. But in reality and humorous is that everyone has a way of swaggering their body language into their style of shooting. The folks from Knockout Lights have observed these common positions that most fall into and here they are: The InstructorThe BowlerFishingThe Chicken Wing DrawGangstaSix Position drawIsosceles armor facing forwardThe Cross dominant EyeThe Lean Forward Speed ShooterThe I've put on a "Few Pounds Fanny Pack"Mossad Condition 3C.A.R.Minus the Ceiling Tiles...

or it could be called "run and gun" When you're just plinking at the range, it's no big deal to just stand and fire away, but in a self-defense situation, the very first thing you should do is move. Moving helps turn the tables on your attacker by forcing them to react to what you’re doing. It also makes you much harder to hit, should they decide to start shooting. You have two goals when making that shot while moving. First, don't trip. That might cause you to shoot yourself, or someone else. Second: You want to keep as stable...

This is one tactical shooting drill that you probably have never seen, but it certainly brings up an interesting topic on realism in training and the engagement of moving targets. Rob Pincus came up with this shooting drill called “Dynamic Deviation Control“. Dynamic Deviation Control is a pistol shooting drill that is designed to inculcate a shooter to engage a moving target. This is just fancy talk for saying shooting while your gun is in motion. Keeping you gun perfectly still during precision drills on the range is one thing, but do it while in motion will be a common...

'Oh dear god no.' That’s my reaction just knowing what's about to happen as I watch the video for the first time. The epitome of “hold my beer” as I hope I’m not gonna watch someone die on a facebook video today. Thankfully, my boss would never do that to me. I just watch someone realize how stupid they are in the span of a gunshot, and see them learn that “bulletproof” is not “damage-proof”. "Oh my god, is the bullet in you?" They ask while sounding completely calm, and I can't help but wonder just how sober these guys...

Among the gun circle there has been talk of the debate on pistol fast shooting methods. Some of school of thought is on trigger slapping, holding a pistol in a special way or get your smooth trigger squeeze faster, the list goes on. Rob Leatham teaches a method that anyone can do. You don't have to be into 3GN or law enforcement. However, this type of fast shooting is the basis for personal defense and competition shooting, or whatever you're into. Rob emphasizes that it has everything to do with pulling the trigger quickly and controlling that recoil. We do...
  • Busting the Gun myth: Stance

Tom McHale of Springfield Armory questioned Rob Leatham about stances while shooting. Many novices are confused with the stances that are taught such as: Isoceles, Weaver, Chapman and your own. What Rob explains and demonstrates has nothing to do with the stance that you use. What really matters are: balance pointability to control the gun and recoil The main thing to really understand and practice is your balance while shooting on rapidly. Rob explains there should be a slight forward lean while shooting, how much depends on what caliber you're throwing down range. Other key points are – that your...

Brass may look cool as it clatters to the ground, but you it’s a bit bad for the environment. These guys figured out how to be cool -and- eco-friendly, catching the brass in their "Tactical trashbag". While one fires his handgun with his eyes on the prize downrange, his buddy keeps an eye on the much-less-predictable brass getting ejected from the gun. Not a bad catch rate, either! This seems a little cooler than buying a brass-catcher, if you’ve got a buddy with enough skill– or you are the buddy! See the full action here.

SHAFTSBURY -- "Most people don't think of women wanting guns, but we do," says Bennington resident Jane Moffitt. Moffitt, who hasn't used a gun in more than 20 years, wants to protect herself now that her husband has died. She decided to attend a free National Rifle Association-funded program just for women Sunday morning called "Women on Target." Moffitt, along with 24 other women from the area, gathered at the Hale Mountain Fish and Game Club on Rod and Gun Club Road to familiarize themselves with the safety basics of pistol shooting. The course was instructed by law enforcement officers...
