EUGENE -- No. 2 Oregon's long-awaited breast cancer awareness-inspired uniforms made their debut Saturday evening before the Ducks played Washington State at Autzen Stadium. Oregon announced it would wear pink helmets, gloves and cleats earlier this week. Five helmets will be auctioned off bearing autographs of Ahmad Rashad, Mark Helfrich, Phil Knight, Joey Harrington and Dan Fouts.

October is the pink month for the NFL. Players, coaches, cheerleaders and even stadiums are adorned with the color to promote Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The league also sells pink merchandise (hats, jerseys, etc.) and donates a portion of the proceeds to the American Cancer Society. How much of the proceeds? Well, not a whole lot. ESPN’s Darren Rovell is reporting (via Business Insider) that the league takes a “25 percent royalty from the wholesale price (1/2 retail), donates 90 percent of royalty to American Cancer Society.”

Every October, pink becomes one of the primary colors on display around the NFL as part of the league’s breast cancer awareness campaign. Last year, the league had the referees in a Dolphins-Jets game use pink penalty flags and they extended it to the entire league on Sunday.
