Pink penalty flags won’t return next weekend

Every October, pink becomes one of the primary colors on display around the NFL as part of the league’s breast cancer awareness campaign.

Last year, the league had the referees in a Dolphins-Jets game use pink penalty flags and they extended it to the entire league on Sunday. Given all of the other pink on uniforms, around the field and on television graphics, it made it hard to see when a flag was down.

Are there really people not aware that it exists?

Then there are the doorknobs who donate to Susan G Komen, which gives the money to Planned Parenthood and spends most of the rest on fundraising.

How about a “Blue Sky-White Clouds-Green Grass Awareness” campaign??

It’s always insane on the first weekend then recedes over the course of the month. But yes pink flags AND pink towels that get yanked out during play did make things a little confusing.

One of the dumbest ideas in the history of the NFL. The players are using pink towels. The referee throws a pink flag. Is it a penalty or did somebody drop their pink towel?

The NFL has actually been running a commercial for a few days now where a grown woman claims with a straight face that she didn't know about breast cancer until watching a Jets game, then got herself checked out and discovered she had it.

It's kind of hard to believe, but there are a lot of ignorant people out there, so you never know.

I was listening to the radio broadcast of the Saints-Bears game. Those guys were thoroughly confused. They were missing penalties and then called one when a player’s towel had actually hit the turf.

She doesn’t say she didn’t know, she says she didn’t think about it and had never gotten checked. Which is actually pretty typical, people don’t go to doctors, people don’t think about the consequences of aging and how many tests they’re supposed to start doing as they get older.
