The table was set. The pastries arranged. A white tablecloth dangled placidly in the early morning mist, surrounded by 12 golden-hued high-backed chairs. Five decades ago, a dozen friends gathered here, on the National Mall, for breakfast. They wore morning coats and floor-length dresses, dined on oysters, drank champagne and danced together as a string quartet played in the shadow of the Lincoln Memorial. The extravagant scene on July 19, 1974, drew in a Washington Post photographer, who captured the moment in an image that would ricochet around the country in newspaper reprints. But the people and circumstances at...

The alleged would-be assassin who attempted to kill former President Donald Trump on Sunday, Ryan Wesley Routh, 58, was once photographed with Biden-Harris administration appointee celebrity chef José Andrés in Kyiv, Ukraine. Routh, who allegedly was staking out the Trump International Golf Club West Palm Beach with a scoped AK-47 on Sunday, appears to be obsessed with the Russia-Ukraine war, so much so that he wrote a book about it. In it, Routh shares a picture of himself alongside Andrés, who Biden appointed as co-chair of the President’s Council on Sports, Fitness, & Nutrition in 2022.

The viral picture of a man holding two geese on an Ohio street being used to fuel claims that migrants have been gobbling up pets was nothing more than a wild goose chase, according to a report. The anonymous man who was snapped carrying the bodies of two birds earlier this week was removing them from the street after they were hit by a car, the Ohio Division of Wildlife confirmed to TMZ. There is no evidence he was taking them home to eat or that he is a migrant, the agency said. The incident happened in Columbus — more...

Israeli defense minister Yoav Gallant released a video Wednesday in which he revealed some of the documents recovered by soldiers in Gaza, including a photo of the children of Hamas’s leader celebrating the 9/11 terror attacks. The photograph shows three children, apparently those of Yahya Sinwar, in front of the World Trade Center, which is seen in flames. “These are the kids of Muhammad Sinwar, posing against the evil event of September 11,” Gallant says in the video, which he released on X (formerly Twitter). “This is picture shows what we have been fighting since October 7th. A team of police snipers team saw Thomas Crooks scouting their command post three times in the minutes before he climbed on top of it and shot Donald Trump from just inches above their heads, it has emerged. Three police marksmen from Beaver County were using the single-story AGR International building as their watch-post when the would-be assassin chose it as his place to shoot from, CBS reported. And he may have been in place on the roof for up to 30 minutes before he unleashed his volley of shots that killed one man and nearly took the life of...

Idon’t care what you think of his politics—former President Donald Trump just struck one of the most iconic poses in U.S. history. His fist-raised salute of defiance is surely enough to win him re-election to the White House. Especially if the American people have to choose between a doddering incumbent and the man who got to his feet seconds after an assassination attempt and punched the air with blood trickling down his face.

The father of murdered Israeli concert-goer Shani Louk appeared Monday night at a pro-Israel rally in Times Square, where he said the enduring image of her lifeless body being paraded around by Hamas terrorists illustrates the “darkness” the Jewish state is fighting against. Nissim Louk told The Post that before-and-after photos of his 23-year-old German Israeli daughter on Oct. 7 — which appeared in countless newspapers the next day — emphasize what’s at stake in the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas. One photo shows the young tattoo artist joyfully dancing at a music festival in Israel and the other...

A U.S. Navy photo posted to X is being mocked for showing a commander shooting an AR-platform rifle with the scope mounted backwards. The photo shows a commander, identified as Commander Cameron Yaste by the Defense Blog, shooting an AR-platform rifle with what appears to be a Trijicon VCOG scope atop it. Problem: the scope is mounted backwards. This means the commander had no sight picture whatsoever as he fired the gun. This was shared today by the official US Navy Instagram. When you see it try not to break your phone. pic.twitter.com/udV0hyvdmJ — Zachary Bell (@zacharyebell) April 9, 2024

Wealthy Democratic donors will be able to score a rare photo Thursday with President Biden and former Presidents Bill Clinton and Barack Obama — snapped by renowned celebrity shutterbug Annie Leibovitz — if they pay $100,000 for the keepsake. Biden’s re-election campaign is hosting a fundraiser at Radio City Music Hall to grow the Democrat’s already sizable cash advantage over former President Donald Trump, the presumptive Republican nominee. The hat-passing event will include “a star studded program hosted by Mindy Kaling and featuring musical guests Queen Latifah, Lizzo, Ben Platt, Cynthia Erivo, and Lea Michelle,” according to the Biden campaign.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Veterans Affairs secretary has reversed a department memo that aimed to ban VA displays of the iconic “V-J Day in Times Square” photograph of a Navy sailor kissing a strange woman on the streets of New York at the end of World War II. Secretary Denis McDonough acted hours after a copy of a memo from a VA assistant undersecretary requesting the photo’s removal from all VA health facilities was shared on social media. The memo had said the photo “depicts a non-consensual act” and is inconsistent with the department’s sexual harassment policy. McDonough on Tuesday...

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) responded on Twitter to Hunter Biden’s lawyer requesting the Office of Congressional Ethics take action against her for showing redacted-nude photos of the president’s son during a House Oversight Committee hearing. Greene said Hunter Biden’s lawyer, Abbe Lowell’s, letter confirms the pictures she displayed are of the first son and a prostitute and that they confirm “his violation of the MANN act by sex trafficking a victim across state lines.” On Wednesday, during a hearing with the two Internal Revenue Service whistleblowers, Greene held up a poster board that showed Hunter Biden performing sexual acts...

Twitter critics slammed Gisele Barreto Fetterman for posting a photo of herself outside the senator-elect’s office with her husband, John Fetterman, partially cropped out of the image. Users mocked the photo for seemingly depicting Mrs. Fetterman as having achieved her fifteen minutes of fame. Some insisted the photo was her leaning into the claim that she was the actual Senate candidate all along, thanks her husband’s cognitive issues caused by his stroke last May. On Tuesday afternoon, Mrs. Fetterman posted the first image outside the senator-elect's new office. In the photo, which depicted the Democrat ditching his usual hoodie and...
