The Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) is taking sides against AOC-backed congressional candidate Nina Turner and delivering some backhanded insults in the process. A Politico report indicates that the CBC is “playing favorites” by backing Turner’s opponent, Shontel Brown, in the race to represent Ohio’s 11th congressional district in a seat vacated in March by Marcia Fudge. Donald Trump is reportedly teaming up with Newt Gingrich on a new ‘MAGA doctrine’ for the Republican Party, using the famed “Contract with America” as a framework. As Tal Bachman notes at Steynonline, it’s now our state religion, a state religion in a country that—constitutionally and for good reason—isn’t supposed to have one. But “Wokism” is yet more than that, too. It’s a mass psychosis similar to many that have arisen throughout history when the masses followed leaders who, in their zeal or self-interest, took them to disastrous ends.

Anti-Trump Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) could face a vote on whether or not she will lose her leadership role in the House as GOP Conference Chair as early as next week. It’s becoming clear that Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY) will be the primary challenger to Cheney for the Conference Chair position. Stefanik has been calling House GOP members in order to drum up support, and she’s gotten support from the biggest name around. On Wednesday, Trump officially endorsed Stefanik to replace Cheney as the GOP Conference Chair.

On Sunday, Former President Trump released a statement criticizing President Biden’s decision to push back the withdrawal of U.S. troops from Afghanistan. The Trump administration had set a May 1 withdrawal deadline and the Republican former president’s statement said that the U.S. “should keep as close to that schedule as possible.” Trump also criticized Biden’s decision to use September 11th as a marker for the withdrawal.

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, according to a report in The Hill, is seeking to bury “his running feud with President Trump.” In a discussion with reporters, McConnell (R-KY) expressed no interest in addressing fiery comments by the former President and instead is seeking to unify the Republican Party. “What I’m concentrating on is the future and what we are confronted with here is a totally left-wing administration, with a slight majority in the House, a 50-50 Senate trying to transform America into something no one voted for last year,” he said.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis announced that the Sunshine State won’t have any part in issuing vaccine passports, calling it a “bad idea.” “I just want to make very clear in Florida, we are not doing any vaccine passports,” DeSantis said. “All those experts said that it was a bad idea. I think it’s a bad idea and so that will not happen.” The Republican Governor added that people are free to choose their path when it comes to the vaccine, “but under no circumstances will the state be asking you to show proof of vaccination.”
