April 28, 2012 Triple Play! Obama Blows Off Congress, Funds Palestinians, Lies About PA Stance on Israel Andrew C. McCarthy Friday night news dump: President Obama has decided to provide $192 million to the Palestinian Authority despite Congress’s freeze on PA funding after its president, Mahmoud Abbas, attempted to declare statehood unilaterally last September, in violation of the PA’s treaty commitments.Obama’s “waiver†of the restrictions on Congress’s Palestinian Accountability Act was first reported in the foreign press (AFP), which is where Americans generally need to go to get news about what the U.S. administration is up to. A report from...

The results of a poll conducted by World Public Opinion and published this week show that among Arab and Muslim countries, the Palestinians hate the United States more than any other. That hatred is born of farfetched assumptions of the US and its foreign policies that are fed by local Middle East media. For examples, nearly 90 percent of Palestinian Arabs believe spreading Christianity in the Middle East is an official US foreign policy goal, and that Washington’s ultimate aim is to seize control of all Middle East oil resources.

CORRECTION? Last month this column stated; “US/UK/Israel constitute a true axis of evil. They all employ torture, all are now genocidists, perpetrators of the Supreme Crime. All are robbers of the resources of other nations, all three routinely employ deception, all have assassination teams and perpetrate atrocities to be blamed upon others. All three clothe their crimes in the vocabulary of democracy while claiming to represent the moral high ground.” The correction, if one is in order, derives from the following. Are Bush & Co’s crimes US crimes? Are all Americans culpable for crimes perpetrated by Bush & Co? Seeing...

GAZA, Oct 6 (Reuters) - "Freedom for Palestine!" chants 9-year-old Ahmad Abu Sharia in a Gaza Strip refugee camp, as he listens to a small radio bringing news of Israeli air strikes. "I want to become a commander in al-Aqsa," he says, referring to one of the main Palestinian militant groups, al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades. Abu Sharia's dream of fighting Israel and perhaps achieving fame as a "martyr" is one shared by many of his friends and other youngsters in the Gaza Strip, a militant stronghold in an uprising against Israel since 2000. But Israeli troops left the territory last month...

Bracing for possible violence, Jerusalem police will be on the highest state of alert Sunday on the Temple Mount, barring both a group of Jewish ultra-nationalists and Arab men from entering the bitterly contested holy site due to fear that an altercation between the two sides at the compound will send the country spiraling into violence.

Plus ca change? Caroline B. Glick November 13, 2004 Suha Arafat's rant against leaders of the Palestinian Authority and Yasser Arafat's heirs apparent earlier in the week was revealing in many ways. On a basic level, it showed much about the nature of the PA and the PLO which Arafat has built and led. Arafat's wife, who had been estranged from him more or less since they were married, had thrown down the gauntlet. Her beef with everyone was over the loot that Arafat amassed over all these years – money he made by bilking the international community for aid...

Did the President really say what I think he said? Speaking in the White House Rose Garden earlier this month, with a clearly delighted Colin Powell at his side, George W. Bush went ahead and used the "O" word, as in "occupied", when describing Israel's heartland of Judea, Samaria and Gaza. In laying out his vision for the establishment of a Palestinian state, Bush said that, "as progress is made toward peace, settlement activity in the occupied territories must end," with the implication being that Jewish housing construction somehow inhibits Middle Eastern harmony. With the United States poised to liberate...
