HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — Vote-counting in the contest for an open seat on Pennsylvania's statewide Commonwealth Court narrowed the race to a virtual dead heat. That's as some counties continued Friday to tabulate remaining mail-in, overseas and provisional ballots. Two seats on the court are opening up next year. Republican Stacy Wallace, a lawyer, won one of them in Tuesday's election. But the latest unofficial count on the state's online election site showed Democrat Lori Dumas and Republican Drew Crompton in practically tied. That puts the contest well within the margin under state law for a mandatory recount.

[PALESTINIAN POLICEMEN face off against demonstrators in Ramallah in June, during protests following the death of Nizar Banat, a critic of the Palestinian Authority.] Hamas sources said that the crackdown was one of the fruits of the ongoing security coordination between the PA and Israel. The Palestinian Authority is continuing its crackdown on political activists and rivals in the West Bank, notwithstanding protests by Palestinian and international human rights organizations, Palestinians said on Wednesday. The clampdown, which has targeted dozens of Palestinians over the past few weeks, is emboldening Hamas, the PA’s main rivals, and threatening to undermine security and...

A fair warning for your next trip to the liquor store: Several states across the U.S. are still experiencing booze shortages related to COVID-19, and it's unclear when supply will be able to meet demand. Early in the pandemic, it was common to find libations low in stock after some liquor stores briefly closed amid statewide lockdowns and skyrocketing consumer demand for alcohol. But continued reports of shortages from Vermont to New Jersey to Ohio persist more than a year later, and some states are rationing their liquor supply amid ongoing supply chain issues. The Pennsylvania state board in charge...

HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) - Democrats in Pennsylvania’s state Senate sued Friday evening in a state court to block a Republican-approved subpoena seeking voter information and to put a stop to what Republicans call a “forensic investigation” of last year’s presidential election. Democrats had said they would sue within days after the Republican-controlled Senate Intergovernmental Operations Committee voted Wednesday to issue a subpoena. The subpoena seeks detailed state election records, including communication with counties and the names of who voted in last year’s presidential election, their birth date, address, driver’s license number and the last four digits of their Social Security...

Pennsylvania Republicans moved on Wednesday to seek personal information on every voter in the state as part of a brewing partisan review of the 2020 election results, rubber-stamping more than a dozen subpoenas for driver’s license numbers and partial Social Security numbers. The expansive request for personal information, directed at Pennsylvania’s Department of State and approved in a vote by Republicans on a State Senate subcommittee, is the first major step of the election inquiry. The move adds Pennsylvania to a growing list of states that have embarked on partisan-led reviews of the 2020 election, including a widely criticized attempt...

Pennsylvania is in the midst of a political civil war over whether or not to hold an election audit. If the Democrats have nothing to hide, why not let those silly Republicans chase their tails? After some heated debate, Pennsylvania’s Senate Intergovernmental Operations Committee voted along party lines Wednesday, 7-4, to issue subpoenas to acting Secretary of State Veronica Degraffenreid. The move requires her office to provide a cache of recent election information. Democrats are hoping to block the subpoenas in court.“It has been made plain that the Department of State and acting Secretary of State Degraffenreid are not willing to participate...

The state of Pennsylvania is preparing pages of subpoenas related to the 2020 Election. These subpoenas will be voted on tomorrow. A Republican-controlled state Senate panel looking into alleged irregularities in the commonwealth’s elections will meet on Wednesday morning in Harrisburg to vote on whether to slap the Pennsylvania Department of State with subpoenas after the agency took a pass on the panel’s opening meeting last week. The Northampton Area School District board will meet Monday amid extra security and just days after the death of a teacher and coach. There will be additional security at the meeting, stemming from comments by Republican political candidate Steve Lynch. He said at an anti-mask rally in Harrisburg that he would take "20 strong men" and give school board members the chance to leave or "be removed." "There will be additional security," Superintendent Joseph Kovalchik said Thursday, without giving specific measures. The district has asked Northampton County Executive Lamont McClure to send county deputies to the meeting at NASD expense....

The top Republican in Pennsylvania's Senate said Friday that he is putting a different senator in charge of an "election integrity" undertaking and removed a senator who had made waves by aiming to carry out an Arizona-style “forensic investigation” of Pennsylvania’s 2020 presidential election. Senate President Pro Tempore Jake Corman said he had had "many frustrations" with state Sen. Doug Mastriano, who has helped spread former President Donald Trump’s false claims that the 2020 election was rigged against him in Pennsylvania and other battleground states. Mastriano, R-Franklin/Adams, last month kicked off his effort to bring to Pennsylvania a repeat of...

Jake Corman, the Pennsylvania Senate President, has fired Senator Doug Mastriano’s staff in an attempt to hijack the election audit and stonewall the effort in the state. Teddy Daniels, an America First candidate for US Congress, said it appears that Corman “wants to go to war,” and has appeared to have forgotten that “he isn’t dealing with Swampy RINO politicians.” “Why do RINO’s always prefer to work ‘behind the scenes’? We want a transparent audit led by Mastriano! Not a con job by Corman who already has lied, stone walled the audit, and is now smearing @dougmastriano, who without, the...
