Nevada Health CO-OP, a non-profit insurer created by Obamacare and given $66 million in start up loans, will cease operations on January 1 of next year. The cause of the co-op's downfall is attributed to "market realities." Duh.

Well, it seems Minnesota’s largest school district is discussing screening high school students for depression and anxiety in the classroom. “As part of a state grant to improve mental health services,” notes this CBS Minnesota article, “Anoka-Hennepin schools could offer a screening as soon as next fall. Dr. Nita Kumar, a mental-health consultant for the district, said Friday that the idea is to get students to talk about something they may hide from their parents or not even understand what is happening.”

The National Socialist Workers’ Party leader, Adolph Hitler, became chancellor of Germany on Jan. 30, 1933, and began implementing a plan of universal health care, with no regard for conscience. The New York Times reported Oct. 10, 1933: “Nazi Plan to Kill Incurables to End Pain; German Religious Groups Oppose Move.” “The Ministry of Justice,” the Times reported, “explaining the Nazi aims regarding the German penal code, today announced its intentions to authorize physicians to end the sufferings of the incurable patient … in the interest of true humanity.”

Michael Snyder asked the obvious question, “How in the world is it possible that more than 170 health workers have been infected by the Ebola virus?” The World Health Organization (WHO) does not seem to have the answer even though health workers are dressed “head to toe in suits that are specifically designed to prevent the spread of the virus.” The WHO released the information that West Africa has tallied 1,711 Ebola diagnoses and 932 deaths. Ken Isaacs of the Samaritan’s Purse said, “We believe that these numbers represent just 25 to 50 percent of what is happening.” CDC Director...

Were you hit by a falling kayak? Injured while baking, vacuuming or spending too much time in a deep freeze? Encountered a lamppost for the second time? Were you bitten by a turkey? Never fear, the ICD-10 is here. Starting this October, your doctor will be required to record precisely whether you were bitten or struck by a parrot, macaw, chicken, turkey, or any "other psittacines," or encountered any one of 140,000 other specific medical conditions, injuries or diseases.

Gayle Ayala says that while she was “once a poster child for Obamacare,” she’s finding herself increasingly frustrated. At 62 years old, she has high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and is at high risk for developing breast cancer, but it has been a struggle to confirm coverage or find an acceptable doctor. She is one of many Nevadans who have found themselves in limbo after they failed to receive their insurance cards, and who have discovered that the doctors they were promised had been dropped from their insurance plans. “I’m a huge supporter of the president,” Ayala says. However, she...

It is not easy to find a doctor who takes Medicare in our area. When we found one that did, mom accepted him, no questions asked, based on his sweet, smiling demeanor. I was not so easily convinced. Call me from the Show Me State if you’d like. We arrived for our dual appointments - there was nobody in the waiting room so we waited just a few minutes before we were taken to the same examining room. The nurse came, very polite, took our information on her laptop and left, and we waited and waited. Finally, mom’s favorite smiling...

Cyprus, a tiny island of less than one million people, is a small scale study in “big banking out of control,” “insane spending like there is no tomorrow,” coupled with “socialism runs out of other people’s money.” While researching the bailin and bailout of early summer, I found disturbing accounts of their socialized health care. In return for a 10 billion bailout for Cyprus, the EU bureaucrats have demanded a bailin (read confiscation) of Cypriots’ savings and checking accounts. One bank offered worthless shares but another did not. Cypriots felt that they were used as “guinea pigs” to test if...

Twenty-four years after communism went underground in 1989 (and is resurfacing with a vengeance today), medical care has not improved by leaps and bounds. If you are 17 years old and injure your foot, even though you carry with you the expected envelope stuffed with cash for the inexperienced doctor, your toe will look like this after six weeks of “expert” care. Doctors worked from 7 to 3 p.m. in the former “communist workers’ paradise” where I grew up. On weekends the hospital was pretty much empty of medical personnel, save for a few janitors and the guard at the...
