Egypt Attacks May Indicate Emerging Sinai Bedouin Insurgency By Chris Zambelis Egypt appears to have scored a number of successes in recent weeks in its war against Islamist militants. Counter-terrorist units and police converged on an olive grove in the mountainous area known as Gabal al-Arish on the outskirts of the northern Sinai coastal town of al-Arish last week after receiving a tip that members of the obscure Tawhid wal-Jihad (Monotheism and Struggle)—one of the main groups implicated in the deadly April attacks in Dahab and other strikes in Sinai—were hiding from the authorities (al-Sharq al-Awsat, May 9). After a...

No arrests were made Saturday. The investigation is ongoing. "Our job today is primarily to close the gambling down,...

It seems that a "clean up" has taken place at the Protest Warriors Forum. They have banned several of there conservative members that supposedly had been posting gay pornography, starting personal attack topics against users, and/or spamming the forum. I have been a member of Protest Warrior for almost three years and have not seen one of the people mentioned ever post "gay porn", and the only time they have ever insulted or attacked anyone from the forum was in self defense. Most of the banned did have strong conviction when it came to homosexuality. Obviously there are quite a...

How would one go about introducing (or gauging support for) a law/regulation that would require credit issuing companies to remove items from someone's credit report based on the terms of a divorce decree? The thought being that it is too easy for one party in a divorce to ruin the other's credit by simply not paying under the terms of the decree. Obviously there would have to be some sort criteria for what debts would qualify, but for now I am just curious as to how things like this get proposed to people that can explore it further and have...

Congress gets Hustler magazine, even if it is unwanted WASHINGTON - The porn magazine arrives every month at your congressman's office. Tucked in a conservative-looking manila envelope, the latest edition of Hustler goes to all 535 members of Congress. Free of charge. Not that most members want it. It usually gets thrown in the circular file marked “trash.” But like clockwork, it keeps coming, despite efforts to have it stop. More here: http://www.sltrib.com/utah/ci_3510974

Previously(last year) I saw on the internet a statistical breakdown of the amount of income taxes paid per individual according to their party voting affiliation. Does anyone know a quick access to this information? It was broken down by $$$ paid per individual and then it also had the $$$ paid by Republicans in total and then the $$ paid by Democrats, and then $$$ paid by other parties in a third group. In this same report there was also a breakdown of how much each group gave to charity by $$$. Would appreciate help if someone knows how to...

Jumping off a big win at the kudofest Monday and helped by an otherwise weak field, "Brokeback Mountain" garnered the impressive achievement of a solid No. 1 win at the box office Tuesday and Wednesday despite playing just 682 theaters. With about $740,000 both days, Focus' cowboy love story beat "Glory Road," which was on 2,222 playdates, by approximately $50,000 Tuesday and $100,000 Wednesday. That puts "Brokeback" in a very strong position as it expands this weekend to 1,194 playdates -- a significant boost from the 800-900 Focus was planning before the Globes victories. ... Focus has been regularly expanding...

U.S. Representative Bob Ney may be giving up his position. A spokesman for Ney says he will temporarily step aside as chairman of a committee that oversees lobbying. The Ohio Republican is at the center of the Justice Department's ongoing corruption probe. Lobbyist Jack Abramoff said in his guilty plea earlier this month that he bribed Ney on behalf of his clients. A spokesman says Ney needs a few days to think about whether to give up his post on the House Adminstration Committee.

Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend by the name of Common Sense who has been with us for many years. No one knows for sure how old he was since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape. he will be remembered as having cultivated such value lessons as knowing when to come in out of the rain, why the early bird gets the worm and that life isnt always fair. Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies (dont spend more than you earn) and reliable parenting stategies (adults, not kids, are...

If the communities we live are have become an unreliable disaster for our kids we must redouble are efforts as parents. As a matter of fact maybe this should have been part one, as the individual family’s values shape the nature of the community (we could argue chicken and egg theory here). Now this next concept is pretty dramatic and complex, so hold on to your coffee. Here it is....More people need to make raising their kids the most important priority in their lives. This is not a revolutionary idea, but seems terribly hard for many folks to put into...

President Bush came out swinging on Veterans Day in a speech accusing his Democratic war critics of re-writing history. Some war critics have mounted a campaign against him by boiling the entire pre-war history and post-invasion violence down to a two-word phrase: "Bush Lied". They say he lied us into war by distorting intelligence about weapons of mass destruction to convince Americans to fight an unnecessary war. The "Bush Lied" accusation is, if true, an indictment of the entire war itself, and one could reasonably argue we should cut our losses and get out of it. The president could have...

Respectfully — and mindful that you have made it a point of personal pride throughout your administration never to admit a personal mistake (I know you said recently that you "take responsibility" for problems encountered during the federal response to Hurricane Katrina, but that's not the same as admitting you made a mistake) — I urge you to pull the nomination of White House counsel Harriet Miers to serve as a justice of the U.S. Supreme Court. I accept your characterization of Miers as a smart lady. But come now, Mr. President, can you really continue to claim that of...

I know we like to post news stories on this board and go OMG OMG OMG teh udder side teh suXorZ!!11! It's rare that anyone really writes anything somewhat original so, here, I'll do something like that. I'm amazed at some of the twists that are going on in political and legal life right now. So much so that I really think it's worth commenting on. In some ways, we're going in the absolute wrong direction. Now before you get a knee jerk reaction and say i'm a "traitor" or some DUmmie here to quiety say "It's because of Bu$hco...
