  • Office Demand Unlikely to 'Ever to Revert in Full'

    01/31/2023 12:16:00 PM PST · by FarCenter · 24 replies
Holidays and extreme weather conditions prompted a typical seasonal office demand slowdown in December, according to the VTS Office Demand Index (VODI). However, the year-over-year decline for the month was slightly larger than in previous years. New demand for office space ended the year 31.3 percent below its May 2022 peak and fell 20.7 percent year-over-year to a VODI of 46 in December. The report said that a tight labor market, layoffs, threats of another COVID-19 variant, and interest rate hikes have “given pause” to prospective office tenants. Nick Romito, CEO of VTS, said in prepared remarks, “The reality is...

The cloud software company Workday plans to cut hundreds of jobs as it lays off about 3 percent of its global workforce. The company told employees in a message on Tuesday that it decided to restructure and realign some teams across the company, leading to the layoffs, the majority of which will be those working on product and technology, according to a copy of the message from the Securities and Exchange Commission. The message said company leaders will meet with the affected employees and expect notifications to be completed by the end of the day Tuesday, Pacific Standard Time. “While...

Joy Behar told her co-hosts Tuesday on ABC’s “The View” that Republicans are “giving cover to political violence” while discussing the hammer attack on Rep. Nancy Pelosi’s (D-CA) husband, Paul Pelosi. Referencing Fox News clips showing hosts discussing the incident, Co-host Whoopi Goldberg said, “Why are you making stuff up? We can’t make stuff up. We have to apologize when we make stuff up, when we’re joking or we say something in humor. If we say something in humor, they say, listen, you can’t do that. Why are you allowed to laugh about the fact that somebody broke into this...

Hiring based on skill, ability, and intelligence is bigoted! Navy chiefs have ordered an investigation after workers on a Trident submarine turned to super gluing broken bolts in a nuclear reactor chamber. Yes, you read that right. The faulty repairs were only discovered when a bolt fell off during checks on HMS Vanguard. It had come off through over-tightening, with staff resorting to gluing the heads back on as a quick fix. Here's the HMS Vanguard: In this case, workers from a contract company, Babcock, accidentally overtightened bolts that hold together the cooling pipes for the ship's nuclear reactor. The...

A growing portion of Americans think that the U.S. is giving too much support to Ukraine, as the Biden administration and other western allies have taken steps in recent weeks to escalate their backing of the country in its war against Russia. About a quarter of Americans, 26 percent, think the U.S. support of Ukraine is too strong, according to a new Pew Research Center poll. It is a percentage of people that has steadily grown since the Russian invasion of Ukraine last year and has jumped 6 points since September. The U.S. has sent billions of dollars to Ukraine...

Kate Brown hasn’t yet announced professional plans now that she’s departed the Oregon governor’s mansion. But for a week or so this spring, Brown is Cambridge-bound. The former governor has been tapped as a “visiting fellow” at the Institute of Politics at Harvard’s Kennedy School. That means Brown is headed to the university campus this semester to offer its students a glimpse into what she learned over decades in state politics — and as a sometimes controversial and unpopular executive. In announcing the appointment, the Kennedy School touted Brown’s history of signing major legislation like the “motor voter” law that...

Monday on FNC’s “Hannity,” Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) argued that former President Donald Trump was still his choice for the 2024 Republican presidential primary despite a potentially crowded field, including possible candidates from his home state of South Carolina. According to Graham, some of Trump’s marquee policy achievements could only have been accomplished by Trump. “It seems like the Trump agenda is the agenda for the entire Republican Party, so that — how will other candidates distinguish themselves against Donald Trump if they agree with his policies?” host Sean Hannity asked. “I really don’t know, but I do know this:...

Washington — The FBI searched the Penn Biden Center offices in mid-November, according to two sources familiar with the investigation, after lawyers for President Biden had found about 10 documents marked classified there on Nov. 2. The material originated from Mr. Biden's time as vice president. It is not clear whether FBI personnel found any additional classified or presidential material during the mid-November sweep. Two sources told CBS News the search was conducted with the cooperation of Mr. Biden's representatives. A search warrant was not sought. The FBI search of the think tank was not previously disclosed by the White...

Donald Trump has suggested he trusts Russian president Vladimir Putin more than the "lowlifes" who work in U.S. intelligence. In a post on Truth Social, the former president referenced comments he gave after meeting with Putin in Helsinki, Finland, in 2018 when he said that he didn't "see any reason" why Russia would have meddled in the 2016 election, despite what the FBI stated.Trump once again suggested he trusts Putin over U.S. intelligence while sharing an a article about former FBI official Charles McGonigal, a leading figure in the FBI's investigation into the Trump campaign's ties to Russia ahead of the...

A suspected police impersonator was apprehended near the Capitol on Monday and found with a stash of knives and a chainsaw blade, according to authorities. The man, Max Eli Viner, 37, who was wanted by the U.S. Secret Service for questioning, was noticed by a U.S. Capitol Police officer on Monday evening. When Capitol Police searched him, they found the weapons, according to a release from the Capitol Police. More than a quarter of Republican voters say they’d back former President Donald Trump in the 2024 election even if he runs as a third-party candidate — possibly threatening to split the GOP electorate as the party seeks to win back the White House. As the 2024 primary field begins to take shape, a majority of Republican voters are seeking to move past Trump and elevate another candidate as their party’s nominee. However, nearly 30% of “Always Trumpers” may be standing in their way, according to a new poll from the Bulwark. “A large majority of GOP voters is ready...

'America's Governor' points to the scoreboard in response to the former President's fulminations. Gov. Ron DeSantis is finally on offense against former President Donald Trump, spotlighting the two men’s most recent elections. Trump, who has attacked DeSantis repeatedly since before the November 2022 election, had gotten away with relative impunity slamming the man he’s dubbed “Ron DeSanctimonious.” The most recent attack was on DeSantis’ handling of COVID-19. But at a press conference in Bradenton, the Governor said the people of Florida had “rendered” their “verdict” with his re-election last year, offering yet another preview of a potential 2024 GOP Primary...

Oil giant BP released a report Monday predicting that the world would sharply reduce its reliance on the company's signature product, oil and gas, over the next 25 years as countries hasten their transition to renewable sources of energy so as to combat climate change. Helping spur the transition to renewables, the report says, are actions being taken by countries like the United States to rein in greenhouse gas emissions that 99.9% of scientists believe are responsible for rising temperatures. “Government support for the energy transition has increased in a number of countries, including the passing of the Inflation Reduction...

Republicans and conservatives don’t call Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.) “Mad Maxine” for nothing. Waters has said some pretty absurd and outrageous things over her decades of “service” in Congress, including her claim during the 1992 Rodney King riots that some of the looting taking place was justifiable because mothers needed milk and new shoes for their kids. “One lady said her children didn’t have any shoes. She just saw those shoes there, a chance for all of her children to have new shoes. Godd**n it! It was such a tear-jerker. I might have gone in and taken them for her...

They may also have criminal records.. The Metropolitan Police in London is recruiting officers who are illiterate, can barely write English, and may have a criminal record in order to meet diversity quotas, it has been revealed. Yes, really. A 2014 promise to have 40% of the force be represented by ethnic minorities by 2023 has fallen well short, with just 17% of officers being from ‘diverse’ backgrounds. Matt Parr, the head of the organization responsible for inspecting British police forces, told the Telegraph that London, “which will likely be a minority white city in the next decade or so,...

The vice-president of the Economic Committee of the House of Representatives, Mohamed Abdel-Hamid, affirmed that joining the institution benefits the country. “We will benefit from the Bank’s financial and technical assistance in areas such as sustainable development, health, infrastructure, transportation, water, and telecommunications,” he said. The addition of Egypt will also relieve the state budget of the pressure to find dollars to meet imports because members of that bank can use their national currencies in bilateral trade, he said. Parliamentarian Ahmed El-Awadi, head of the House National Security and Defense Committee, also praised the decision: “It represents a step in...

The booms keep coming, heard and felt for miles around Blytheville, rattling windows and raising concerns, but nobody seems to know what’s causing them. “The City of Blytheville and the Blytheville Police Department are aware of the recent bouts of ‘explosions,’” police said in a Facebook post. “We have received several calls about these occurrences, and find these events to be alarming and concerning.” Residents of Blytheville, a town of more than 13,000 in the northeast corner of Arkansas, have some ideas of their own, maybe earthquakes, possibly undisclosed military activity, a potential Russian invasion, or “someone’s meth lab recipe...
  • How the IRS Enables the Border Invasion: Tax deductible nonprofits help illegal migrants enter the United States.

Last year, bills to stop funding non-profits that help illegal aliens enter this country were introduced in the House and Senate. The Stop Federal Funding for Human Trafficking and Smuggling Act and the Protecting Federal Funds from Human Trafficking and Smuggling Act have failed to make headway. Meanwhile, the problem has only gotten worse. Such bills would not be necessary if the IRS were doing its job. Instead, the IRS, which consistently targets conservative nonprofits, has refused to address the problem. The mass invasion of the United States of America would not be possible without a nonprofit sector that has...
  • Gold snatched up by central banks at fastest pace in 55 years

TOKYO -- Gold buying by central banks reached its highest level in 55 years, data released Tuesday shows, as the freezing of Russia's dollar assets spurred countries to seek alternatives less vulnerable to economic sanctions. Net purchases of the metal by central banks in 2022 totaled 1,135 tonnes in 2022, according to a report from the World Gold Council, an industry group. This was the highest since 1967, when European banks bought gold en masse as U.S. deficits and the devaluation of the British pound began to undermine the link between gold and the dollar. Last year's buying spree is...
