Hiring based on skill, ability, and intelligence is bigoted!

Navy chiefs have ordered an investigation after workers on a Trident submarine turned to super gluing broken bolts in a nuclear reactor chamber.

Yes, you read that right.

The faulty repairs were only discovered when a bolt fell off during checks on HMS Vanguard.

It had come off through over-tightening, with staff resorting to gluing the heads back on as a quick fix.

Here's the HMS Vanguard:

In this case, workers from a contract company, Babcock, accidentally overtightened bolts that hold together the cooling pipes for the ship's nuclear reactor.

The Ministry of Defence said: "As part of a planned inspection a defect was found from work done when HMS Vanguard was in dry dock.

"It was promptly reported and fixed.

"In light of the issue, the Secretary of State spoke with the chief executive office of Babcock to seek assurances about future work."

Jack Posobiec did a little investigating on Babcock and what informs their company values.

I mean they say they hire on merit but…

😭😭😭

Or as we used to say in the business:

"There! That's turning easier now."

That tells me they need to check each and every fastener on the vessel.

Ya gotta think that there are very specific torque specifications for all of the fasteners in a freaking nuclear reactor.

Who knows if this is a result of the contractor’s DEI goals, but that stuff is spreading fast, and it’s deadly.

This is a Brave New world, you can’ go around having those rigid principles. You need to be a little more flexible, you can’t have those high standards and expectations anymore, it’s RACIST!

"Apparently they don’t have torque wrenches in the UK..............."

Or they call it something like a "resistence spanner", so people get confused.

Instead of over tightening a bolt and possibly breaking it, just cross thread it trust me it won’t come loose. Smarter not harder.

The Western world has gone from kinda woke to insanely woke. So we cannot fault the workers or the hiring policy.
A board of inquiry will probably blame the super glue company for not making better glue.

Yes. That was my first thought.

I have "mechanic's feel" - but I still defer to torque specs.

I still remember the time the front wheel of my Blazer fell off and rolled past me as my front driver's side hub was doing a digger in the pavement at 50 mph...
