THE QUESTION no longer is whether Democrats can win back the Senate, now controlled 51-49 by Republicans. The prospect of a Democratic takeover was always remote and has recently become more so. The question now is how much can President Bush, should he defeat John Kerry by 5 percentage points or more, help Republican Senate candidates, assuming there's a coattail effect. And that leads to the more important question of how many seats Republicans might pick up. As many as four or five, or none at all?The trend at the moment is favorable to Republicans, but nothing is guaranteed. Of...

This flyer would be a good one to pass out to conservative Christians that might not be inclined to vote, either from apathy or overconfidence. This could be distributed in church parking lots on Wednesday nights (you should probably get permission). We will adding a web page for this flyer shortly. Any Suggestions? Anybody have any stories to tell about your experience passing our our flyers? Supreme Court

Today is primary election day in many states. In Washington state is the GOP primary for the seats being vacated by Jennifer Dunn and George Nethercutt. The winner of the GOP primary (in both races) will be a strong favorite in November. There is also a primary in Washington state for the office of Attorney General being vacated by Christine Gregoire, a Dem candidate for Governor. In Wisconsin is a three-way GOP primary to see who'll take on Russ Feingold in November. In New York's 24th CD, there is a classic pro-choice vs pro-life battle between incumbent Rep Sherwood Boehlert...

The military has given Paul Allen's brain research project $1.8 million to incorporate into its overall mission of gene-mapping the mind some additional work on sleep deprivation. Rep. George Nethercutt, vice chairman of the House Defense Appropriations Subcommittee and a GOP challenger to Sen. Patty Murray, yesterday visited the Allen Institute for Brain Science to announce the grant from the Army's medical technology program. "This is a prominent problem for the military that's perfectly suited to the (brain) institute," he said. Nethercutt said the one-year Army research grant was a line item in the 2005 Defense Appropriations Act. The Allen...

Republicans have settled on Senate nominees in four states since our last roundup. Candidates in Georgia and Oklahoma avoided runoffs, a beer man in Colorado received his party's nod, and a carpetbagger descended on Illinois. The next important GOP decision comes in Florida, where a crowded field of senatorial wannabes is winnowing down to a two-man race. Herewith, a review of this year's hottest Senate races: ALASKA: Expect Republican senator Lisa Murkowski to blow by former state senator Mike Miller in the GOP primary on August 24. Then she'll move on to face former Democratic governor Tony Knowles in the...

SEATTLE--Both Bill and Hillary Clinton will visit the Seattle area next week--the former president to sign copies of his new memoir and the New York senator to campaign for her colleague, U.S. Sen. Patty Murray, D-Wash. After a Tuesday fund-raising luncheon for Murray at noon at the Washington State Convention Center in Seattle, Sen. Clinton and Murray plan to appear together at a port security event in the city, Murray's office and campaign spokesman Alex Glass said. Tickets for the luncheon range from $250 a seat to $1,000 for those who want to be listed as a "co-chair." Murray's campaign...

Reed Davis vs. George Nethercutt Posted: June 22, 20041:00 a.m. Eastern By Hans Zeiger © 2004 WorldNetDaily.com Reed Davis is not a hate-spewing, bigoted, warmongering ultraconservative – nor is he a wimpy, moderate-to-liberal, middle-of-the-highway RINO (Republican In Name Only). His views on the issues, and his attitudes on the direction of America, are remarkably Reaganesque, and he calls himself a "Ronald Reagan Republican." Maybe that's why the Republican Party establishment wants nothing to do with Reed Davis' campaign for the U.S. Senate in Washington State. Davis is running against moderate Republican Congressman George Nethercutt in a primary for the U.S. Senate seat...

While hundreds of protesters lined the streets outside, President Bush basked in applause at a Republican fund-raiser Thursday night, pressing many of the same ideas that won him the White House – but not Washington state – four years ago. Bush called for a renewal of tax cuts and a strong military, and defended his administration's handling of the war against Iraq, just one day after a federal 9-11 commission found no evidence of a connection between Saddam Hussein and Al Qaeda terrorists in plotting the attacks. "I looked at the evidence, and I saw a threat in Iraq," Bush...

This morning President Bush met with his Cabinet in the White House and discussed the booming economic recovery and then answered questions from the press. Later he went to a hotel in Washington D.C. and addressed the National Federation of Independent Business 2004 Small Business Summit, and then boarded Air Force 1 for Spokane Washington for a fundraiser. First Lady Laura will be in Cleveland tomorrow.

When President Bush swoops majestically into Spokane tomorrow aboard Air Force One to campaign for George Nethercutt, it will mark both a golden opportunity to raise money and an incredible bargain for the Republican who hopes to unseat incumbent Sen. Patty Murray this fall. Bush will be the featured speaker at a fund-raiser that could bring Nethercutt more than $1 million. He also will fly with Bush from Washington, D.C., meaning he will be at Bush's side as they step off Air Force One, a priceless image that is likely to be reproduced in newspapers and television broadcasts across the...

SPARTANBURG, SC (Talon News) -- A conservative political action committee leader said in a message to supporters on Tuesday that "keeping the Senate in GOP hands is now the number one priority of this election year," because President George W. Bush's reelection is "no longer a certainty." William J. Murray, Chairman of the socially conservative PAC Government Is Not God (GING), said Bush's poll numbers are strikingly similar to two other former presidents who failed in their reelection bids. "As of this month [Bush] has the same approval ratings as Presidents Jimmy Carter and George H.W. Bush did just before...

In Congressman George Nethercutt's Bellevue apartment, you won't find many personal touches. The walls are bare, the furniture cheap or borrowed. On a worn coffee table sits a well-thumbed copy of "All the King's Men," a novel the Spokane Republican counts among his favorites. It's the cautionary tale of Willie Stark, a small-town politician who becomes corrupted as a powerful U.S. senator. But today, as Nethercutt officially kicks off his campaign against Sen. Patty Murray, there is another name to keep in mind — Clarence C. Dill, the last politician from east of the Cascades to be elected senator from...

Prenatal care for pregnant women is drying up in rural areas, partly because of steep malpractice insurance rates, rural hospital administrators told U.S. Rep. George Nethercutt at a meeting Monday. When rural doctors decide to drop obstetrics insurance coverage and stop delivering babies -- as they have in Odessa, Republic and Davenport -- they're also prohibited by their insurance companies from offering prenatal care. That means more pregnant women who've never had a prenatal checkup are showing up at Spokane hospitals to deliver babies. "That is Third-World medicine," said Tom Corley, president of Holy Family Hospital. "That's what you'd expect...

Democratic incumbent Patty Murray continues to hold a huge fund-raising edge in Washington state's closely watched U.S. Senate race. New campaign finance reports show Murray has topped the $6 million mark in total donations and has more than $4 million on hand as she prepares to battle Republican Rep. George Nethercutt. Nethercutt, who has moved to Bellevue, Wash., to launch a statewide race, has raised more than $1.8 million and has almost $1.4 million on hand, his campaign said. Campaign finance reports for the three months that ended Dec. 31 are not due until Saturday night, but both campaigns released...
