Clinton CD on way By Tom Baldwin in Washington August 17, 2005 Bill Clinton / Reuters YOU'VE read the book and you've seen the interviews but if you were thinking that there is no more juice to be squeezed out of the Bill Clinton experience, think again. The former president is producing a CD, The Bill Clinton Collection: Selections from the Clinton Music Room. The 11-track compilation goes on sale next month. Mr Clinton is so taken with the album that he is reported to have been blasting it through the open windows of his people-carrier as he drives. The...

BOBO-DIOULASSO, Burkina Faso (Reuters) - New World Bank President Paul Wolfowitz said on Tuesday the key to helping Africa's poor cotton growers was to cut the subsidies paid to U.S. and European agriculture producers. On a tour of a cotton-processing factory in Burkina Faso, Wolfowtiz said the World Bank would have a "strong voice" at the Doha trade talks to make a case for wealthy nations to reduce agricultural subsidies worldwide. The subsidies cut into revenues of impoverished countries like Burkina Faso, one of Africa's biggest cotton growers. But on his first visit to the continent since taking the reins...

Unprecedented effort needed to save world's biodiversity: study Sat May 21, 2:59 AM ET MONTREAL (AFP) - An unprecedented effort is required between now and 2010 to stop further deterioration of the planet's fragile biodiversity, according to a UN report that compiled the work of 1,300 researchers. In fact, 2010 may be too late, say the authors of the report, pleading with governments, NGOs, international organizations and companies to immediately put in place longterm conservation plans. According to the report published this week in Montreal, "The world in 2100 could have substantial remaining biodiversity or it could be relatively homogenized...

WASHINGTON - A former colleague of John R. Bolton says President Bush's nominee for U.S. ambassador to the United Nations "has none of the qualities needed for that job." Bolton "has all the qualities needed to harm the image and objectives in the U.N. and its affiliated international organizations. If it is now U.S. policy not to reform the U.N but to destroy it, Bolton is our man," Frederick Vreeland, a former U.S. ambassador to Morocco, said in an e-mail to the top Democrat on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. The administration stood firm Monday in its support of Bolton....
  • CA: Governor says redistricting needed; Democrat calls plan "power grab"

SACRAMENTO (AP) - Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger said Thursday that redrawing the state's legislative and congressional districts would break the hold of the political elite, but a leading Democrat labeled the proposal a Republican power grab. Schwarzenegger is pushing a constitutional amendment that would transfer the Legislature's power to draw legislative and congressional districts to a panel of retired judges that would produce new districts for the 2006 elections. Current districts, Schwarzenegger said, were drawn to maintain the partisan lineups that existed in the Legislature and congressional delegation following the 2000 federal census and few of them are competitive. Some look...

WASHINGTON - The Pentagon (news - web sites) is turning up the heat on the Russian government for ignoring pleas to cooperate in verifying an expanding body of anecdotal evidence that American servicemen from World War II and the Korean War were secretly held in prison camps in Siberia. Russian inaction has made the effort to confirm information about the presence of Americans in the gulag — the network of penal camps that stretched across the former Soviet Union — "a distinctly unilateral U.S. pursuit," Norman Kass, a leader of the Pentagon project, wrote in the introduction to a new...

The love of my life has just been hospitalized with what we thought was pneumonia but looks like it may be the final stage of lung cancer. Were we shocked! Please Pray for him. 27 years is a long time to be with someone I never thought it would end. It's been one heck of a ride. I am terrified Please pray for me too. I heard a prayer for the wisdom of Solomon the strength of Sampson and the patients of Job. Very lofty aspirations while nice, the prayer we need is for RY to accept the prayer of...

The purpose of FreeRepublic.com's multiple message boards is to limit the topics for each board to particular topics. Posting the same message on all the boards defeats the purpose of multiple-boards for special topics. It is very annoying to see the same message on every bulletin board. PLEASE! DO THE READERS A FAVOR. STOP CROSS-POSTING YOUR MESSAGES!

At the risk of noting the obvious, Sunday's deadly confrontation between a semiautomatic weapon-wielding Minnesotan and a group of hunters in northern Wisconsin can and should be factored into debates about the availability of semiautomatic and automatic weapons. When hunters in Sawyer County confronted the Minnesotan - a 36-year-old Hmong immigrant named Chai Vang who was in a deer stand on private property and told him that he would have to leave - several of the greatest myths that are peddled by opponents of gun control exploded. To wit: • Myth One: A semiautomatic weapon is just another kind of gun.When...

TOKYO - (KRT) - Hours into his first trade mission abroad as California governor, Arnold Schwarzenegger diverged from his prepared script and stepped into international politics by urging President Bush to reach out to more global partners in the struggle to rebuild Iraq. Appearing on a top-rated Tokyo news program, the Republican governor said that the United States should make more of an effort to broaden the frayed coalition working to stabilize the Middle East nation. "The more countries that are participating in helping rebuild Iraq the better it will be so the whole burden is not just on the...

WASHINGTON (AP) - Sept. 11 commissioners told Congress on Monday they want the federal government to set standards for getting driver's licenses to make it harder for terrorists to fake their identities. Commission Chairman Thomas Kean told the Senate Commerce Committee that ID cards helped terrorists prepare for the Sept. 11 hijackings by allowing them to board commercial flights. "The time at which terrorists are most vulnerable is when they move around," Kean told the committee. The Sept. 11 report issued last month said the United States must expand its border security system into a larger network of screening points,...

I need some help. In my office I can only listen to AM on-line. Usually I listen to KWOS am 950 out of Missouri. Generally, this is a pretty good station and their line-up is great. They go from Neal Boortz, to Rush then to Sean. Lately, they have been off-air quite often and I am getting sick of it. Do any of you listen to Rush on line? If so, please post your stations of choice. The same line up would be preferred, but Rush only is better than nothing...... Thanks, FRiends!

WASHINGTON -- Hundreds of thousands of Californians are signing petitions to kick Democratic Gov. Gray Davis out of office, spurred on by a campaign bankrolled by a Republican congressman who wants to take his place. Rep. Darrell Issa, a conservative whose multimillion dollar fortune comes from the car-alarm business he built, has so far contributed$645,000 to the effort. He says it is "not a means to be governor. It's a means to eliminate a bad governor." At the same time, he acknowledges, "I'd be very interested in being governor. I've made that clear." Democrats who are increasingly worried about the...

Angered by information leaks, Bishop Joseph Adamec abruptly canceled planned transfers of priests this week, The Tribune-Democrat has learned. The cancellation affects a Centre County priest who has publicly disagreed with the bishop’s stance on homosexuality in the priesthood, and whose brother is a conservative Catholic activist and harsh critic of the bishop. Both brothers declined to comment, and Adamec was tight-lipped about his orders, issuing only terse written responses to a reporter’s questions. The cancellations appear to be the latest tear in the widening fissure between Adamac’s administration of the Altoona-Johnstown Roman Catholic Diocese and his conservative critics. Events...

Thought you might enjoy this interesting prayer given in KANSAS at the opening session of their Senate. It seems prayer still upsets some people. When Minister Joe Wright was asked to open the new session of the KANSAS SENATE, everyone was expecting the usual generalities, but this is what they heard: "Heavenly Father, we come before you today to ask your forgiveness and to seek your direction and guidance. We know Your Word says, "Woe to those who call evil good," but that is exactly what we have done. We have lost our spiritual equilibrium and reversed our values. We...
