After a three-year run, Myrtle Beach's homegrown airline, Hooters Air, is bowing out of regularly scheduled air service. The airline will cease its public charter flights April 17 and will run only private charters out of Winston Salem, N.C. Bob Brooks, the airline's founder, and its president, Mark Peterson, said Hooters Air will serve large groups such as sports teams and tour groups, which was the original business model for Pace Airlines. Kinston electricity customers won't be the only ElectriCities member to see higher electric bills next month. How much the cost jumps in individual communities, however, will vary. Communities that buy power from the N.C. Eastern Municipal Power Agency are scrambling to pay about 5 percent more for wholesale power. The agency is implementing an energy adjustment clause of 5.1 percent effective May 1. The additional cost of power is being driven primarily by skyrocketing coal prices. CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Financially strapped Krispy Kreme Doughnuts Inc. told federal regulators Monday that the filing of its 2005 annual report has been delayed because of an ongoing review of its accounting practices. The Winston-Salem-based firm said in a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission that the ongoing analysis included accounting practices from 2004 and "earlier years as well as in fiscal 2005."
