16-year-old Hillside High School student Jalen Thompson Johnson was shot and killed early yesterday as he donned a mask, claimed to be a police officer, and tried to kick in the door of a Durham, NC apartment. Unfortunately for Johnston, the homeowner was not only also armed, he was a better shot. A teen was shot to death while trying to force his way into an apartment in Durham Monday morning, police said. The resident of the apartment was injured in the shooting.

BUNCOMBE CO., NC (WSPA) – New details about the murder of a 6-year-old girl have been released in the U.S. Attorney’s Office criminal complaint. The Federal Bureau of Investigation is investigating the death because it happened on the Blue Ridge Parkway. The girl’s father, 36-year-old Seth Willis Pickering, is charged with first-degree murder and could face the death penalty. The medical examiner says the daughter, Lila Pickering, died from a stab wound to the heart and lung. The NCAA has now joined the NBA and other organizations pulling its official events out of the state of North Carolina due to concern over the state's House Bill 2. Emphasizing an "inclusive atmosphere for all college athletes, coaches, administrators and fans," the NCAA announced it would be pulling seven championships from the state, including a site for the 2017 NCAA Tournament.
