With two months to go before the November general election, Republican Donald Trump (44 percent) leads Democrat Hillary Clinton (41 percent), by 3 points in North Carolina, according to a Suffolk University poll of likely voters in the Tar Heel State.
The poll is a statistical dead heat and is within the surveys margin of error of plus or minus 4.4 percentage points. When asked who they think will win the November presidential election, 49 percent said Clinton and 33 percent Trump, with 17 percent undecided.
Libertarian Gary Johnson was the choice of 4 percent of voters, with 8 percent undecided. Green Party nominee Jill Stein is not listed on the North Carolina ballot although voters may write in her name.
North Carolina is very close, and so is the gender gap margin, though its not quite working in Hillary Clintons favor with Johnson in the mix, said David Paleologos director of the Suffolk University Political Research Center in Boston. Among men, Trump led 53 percent to 32 percent, with Johnson getting 3 percent, while among women Clinton led 49 percent to 36 percent, with Johnson at 5 percent.
Demographic trends
Forty percent of North Carolina voters are registered as Democrats, 30 percent as Republicans and 30 percent as independents.
Clinton gained the support of 84 percent of African-American voters in North Carolina compared to 7 percent for Trump. However, among white voters Trump led Clinton 57 percent to 28 percent.

Keep an eye on polls of Colorado, Wisconsin, Nevada, and Oregon, New Hampshire, Maine, and Rhode Island.
Hillary is very weak in lots of unexpected places.
Romney won here by 2 points in 2012. It will be much more for Trump in 2016.
I could go through the entire massive list of states that Trump will win....but, the important ones that will give him the POTUS victory with ease, are, Texas, Florida, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia, North Carolina. He also will carry numerous, Democrat Blue states in New England, The Mid-West and the Far-West. the entire South is Trump!!!
“Romney won here by 2 points in 2012. It will be much more for Trump in 2016.”
I agree. I believe Trump is ahead by a little more than this.
The news is getting better and Trump has momentum.
I expect Trump to win North Carolina. There are supporters of his who aren’t responding to polls.
Quinnipiac polls
Trump up 1 in Ohio, tied in FL, but Shill up 4 i NC which has me incredulous.
More like what I think is really going on, rather than the latest Quinnipiac which has Hillary ahead by 4....
It’s gotta be more for Trump here in NC. And the only ahead by 7 pts with men? This is way out of whack with folks I talk to and see here. I think these pollsters are just slowly easing Trump back to where he is supposed to be after their lame fake polls didn’t work. I’m not against polls but I believe what I see first. Landslide for Trump!
