(01-04) 16:04 PST WASHINGTON (AP) -- A handful of House Democrats plan a long-shot effort to snarl President Bush's formal re-election by preventing Congress from counting Ohio's pivotal votes when lawmakers tally the electoral vote on Thursday. No one expects the action to undo Bush's victory. Instead, it seems likely to do little more than call attention to Election Day voting irregularities, a growing frustration for Democrats who blamed similar problems in Florida for Bush's 2000 defeat of Democrat Al Gore.

(CNSNews.com) - The Committee to ReDefeat the President, a federal political action committee also known as ReDefeatBush.com, is organizing several protest rallies this week, before Members of Congress gather in a joint session on Thursday to count the electoral votes from the November 2004 election. ReDefeatBush promises to examine the "illegitimate election" of President Bush; and it says it will offer a "declaration of intent to reclaim our republic." Among other things, the group insists that Ohio's 20 electoral votes were won by John Kerry. "We expect the electoral votes of four states to be challenged and for the...

The election is long over. A new year is starting, and even most of the more ardent liberals are moving on. But in Louisburg Square this week, one determined group isn't quite ready to let go. About a half dozen supporters of John Kerry are holding vigil in front of his house, still hoping for a Kerry presidency. The little knot of demonstrators, calling themselves the Coalition Against Election Fraud, stood shivering in the cold yesterday, hoisting signs and pressing fliers into the hands of bewildered passersby. Taxi drivers, neighbors digging cars out of the snow, and Beacon Hill residents...

WASHINGTON -- No buttons, signs or unusual dress will distinguish the protesters from the thousands who will line the inaugural parade route next month, but at a set time, they say they will demonstrate against President Bush -- by turning their backs on the chief executive. Coupled with the widely expected pomp and pageantry of a presidential inauguration are demonstrations by protesters angered by Bush's policies, in particular the war in Iraq. Getting ready for Jan. 20, 2005, various groups are using Web sites, e-mails, fliers and word of mouth to urge thousands of demonstrators to gather in the nation's...

COLUMBUS, Ohio - As it has done for 200 years, Ohio's delegation to the Electoral College (news - web sites) is to meet Monday to cast ballots for president and vice president — but this time, there are demands that the electors wait until after a recount. A demonstration was held Sunday as about 100 people gathered outside the Ohio Statehouse to protest the delegation's vote. The Electoral College's vote in the Ohio Senate chamber is expected to be accompanied by demonstrations outside the Capitol sponsored by groups who don't accept that President Bush (news - web sites) won the...

For Some, the Race Remains Far From Over 47 minutes ago By Sam Howe Verhovek Times Staff Writer COLUMBUS, Ohio — Clifford Arnebeck won't let it go. He can't let it go. Not, he says, while America refuses to recognize that John F. Kerry was elected president Nov. 2. Arnebeck, a Democratic lawyer here and co-chairman of a self-styled national populist alliance, is petitioning the state's highest court to throw out official results that favor President Bush and instead hand Ohio's 20 electoral votes — and thus the White House — to Kerry. Or, at least, order a revote. The...

400 Demand Recount at Ohio Statehouse 7 minutes ago By JOHN McCARTHY, Associated Press Writer Speakers addressing the crowd alleged that many voters were the victims of a fraud in which votes intended for John Kerry were given to President Bush. "I would like to welcome you to the Ukraine," said Susan Truitt, referring to the country where a new presidential runoff election was ordered after observers said the first one was rigged. On Friday, a federal judge in Columbus ruled that a recount may proceed if two minority party candidates who sued for it can pay for it. Green...

These comments come from Uc Berkeley's Daily paper. My comments are in parathesis: Bush’s campaign, on the other hand, acted in a way that is in perfect congruence with the attitude of his administration: brazen arrogance and go-it-aloneness. Even before all the networks had given Bush the victory, his campaign told reporters Tuesday night that they were declaring victory. At least in 2000, the candidates waited until after the networks had made a final projection before doing so.(FOX, NBC, MSNBC all called it Tuesday night) Granted, the networks got it wrong, but at least the candidates waited. I will give...
