LUCKNOW: Rudyard Kipling's Mowgli came alive in the jungles of Katraniyaghat in Bahraich district, 200 km from Lucknow, when local policemen rescued an eight-year-old girl from a troop of monkeys recently. The cops had to face resistance from the simians before they could rescue the girl. Mowgli, the man-cub protagonist of Kipling's ‘The Jungle Book’ was reared by wolves’ pack in 'Seeonee hills', now in MP. The girl was spotted when a police party of Motinagar range in Bahariach headed by sub-inspector Suresh Yadav was on routine night patrol in the woods of Katarniyaghat. “We spotted her playing among apes....

A majority of U.S. voters don’t believe that President Obama has been “aggressive” enough in his efforts to thwart Islamic State terrorists or disable Iran’s nuclear capabilities. Only 29 percent believe the president has been adequately aggressive. The poll, which was conducted between July 13 and 15, also indicates that Americans believe Obama has been too weak in his actions regarding Iran’s...

My life is undergoing a bit of a disruption right now (hence my ceasing to post the weekly Torah readings). But to calm my nerves I have been re-reading the original Jungle Books by Rudyard Kipling. This is the first time I have done so in a very long time, and I am amazed at how much I remember. Those stories really make an impression. I have read all the Mowgli stories before (except for "In the Rukh," which I recently read online), but except for "Rikki-Tikki-Tavi" I had not read any of the non-Mowgli stories in the Jungle Books...

Russian police are hunting a "werewolf boy" - who snarls and bites - after he escaped from a Moscow clinic just a day after being rescued from the wild. Doctors expressed shock saying he was found living with a pack of wolves in a remote forest in the Kaluga region of central Russia. The 'werewolf boy' has escaped from a Moscow clinic just a day after he was found. It is thought he was raised by wolves and his toenails are like claws"He's clearly dangerous to other people," said a police spokesman yesterday. "He's got typical wolf-like habits and behaviour....
