  • Debate Moderator Bias

There have been quite a few comments here at Free Republic regarding moderator bias during the two Presidential debates, and also during the Vice-Presidential debate. Many FR posters have been taking pot-shots at the MSM and the debate moderators. In my humble (and often misguided) opinion, we are shooting at the wrong target. The real target here should be Romney, and his advisors. They agreed to all of this. What else did they - and we - expect? After all, if you pick up a scorpion, you can expect to get stung.

In the baseball playoffs, the tie goes to the runner. In debates, ties are decided by the moderator and that’s what happened during the Tuesday night presidential debate at HofstraUniversity in New York. CNN’s Candy Crowley made her presence felt as a moderator in a major way on two points, but none larger than the issue of Libya. The terrorist attack that killed Ambassador Chris Stevens and four others in Benghazi has become a sore point for Obama, but Crowley made sure she called Romney out before Obama could tag him. When Romney said Obama had not called the attack an act of terror...

Back a few years ago there was a moderate Muslim who used to appear on Foxnews. He was actually pretty smart and was very good at predicting things going on in the intelligence world. I believe he was based out of Pakistan. Does anyone remember his name? I think it started with an M.

It's been an astounding 20 years since a woman moderated a presidential debate, and many Americans seem ready for change. So far, more than 90,000 people have joined a campaign on Change.org asking the Commission on Presidential Debates to include at least one female moderator in one of the three 2012 debates between President Barack Obama and Republican nominee Mitt Romney.

Corynne Romine and Michelle Mascaro are adoptive parents of three children: David, 11; Emma, 13; and Joseph Romine, 9. When they adopted Emma, their child welfare agency hid the fact that they were a lesbian couple from Lutheran Child and Family Services that receives public money.

I posted "RED ALERT: Emergency in Alaska" - Already there are rumors of “found” ballots. Murkowski is refusing to go away quietly, even allowing her campaign to float the idea of a third party bid or write-in candidacy. Then I cane back to my post and it was pulled - here is the exact text: This thread has been pulled. Pulled on 08/26/2010 11:09:25 AM PDT by Admin Moderator, reason: Search function still works.

SPEND $500 on two magnums of Veuve Clicquot Champagne at Bagatelle on West 13th Street in the meatpacking district, and the bottles are delivered to your table with lighted sparklers stuck in their corks. Spend $2,500 on a jeroboam of Veuve Clicquot and some magnums of Dom Pérignon, and the lights dim, the D.J. cues up the theme from “Superman,” and a waiter is hoisted onto the shoulders of his fellow servers. With a tablecloth knotted around his neck as a makeshift cape and his arms outstretched, he carries one of the blazing bottles of bubbly to your table. As...
  • VP debate moderator's impartiality questioned (AP Barf Alert CYA Piece)

NEW YORK - PBS journalist Gwen Ifill, moderator of the upcoming vice presidential debate, dismissed conservative questions about her impartiality because she is writing a book that includes material on Barack Obama. Ifill said Wednesday that she hasn't even written her chapter on Obama for the book "The Breakthrough: Politics and Race in the Age of Obama," which is to be published by Doubleday on Jan. 20, 2009, the day a new president is inaugurated. "I've got a pretty long track record covering politics and news, so I'm not particularly worried that one-day blog chatter is going to destroy my...

As we learned in the first debate, moderators can help shape the outcome. PBS host Jim Lehrer asked tough questions to President Bush about his record, but failed to do the same for John Kerry. He asked Kerry to list Bush's “colossal misjudgments,” and then to list the President's lies. But he never once asked Kerry about his 20-year Senate record. Will PBS’s Gwen Ifill do better in the running-mate debate? The evidence suggests here comes liberal moderator number two: ■ Don’t Bash Coke Dealers. “Why are people particularly outraged when people with last names like Cabrera, and people from...

http://michellemalkin.com/2008/09/30/a-debate-%E2%80%9Cmoderator%E2%80%9D-in-the-tank-for-obama/ My first syndicated column of the week, filed this afternoon, shines light on PBS anchor Gwen Ifill, who will moderate Thursday’s only vice presidential debate. Try as she might to deflect questions about her impartiality, her biases — and her conflict of interest — are clear. But don’t you dare breathe a word about any of this. You know what will happen if you do… RACIST! Sidenote: TVNewser reports that Ifill has broken her ankle, but she’s still going to do the debate. But will she disclose her conflict of interest? Inquiring minds want to know. Ask the Commission...
  • Why Tim Russert Was Never Invited to the Big Party

If the truth be told (and I’m about to tell you the truth based on an encounter I had last year), the late great Tim Russert scared the established politicos to death. Amidst the accolades coming from the Republican and Democratic leaders following his heart attack on Friday, the fact is that Russert was the toughest interrogator in the media. He was a modern-day Howard Cosell (without the bravado), and for the top brass, he was too intimidating. Ever wonder why Russert was never asked to be the moderator of the presidential debates? I wondered the same question, and luckily,...

May 9, 2006 As Chinese Students Go Online, Little Sister Is Watching By HOWARD W. FRENCH SHANGHAI, May 8 — To her fellow students, Hu Yingying appears to be a typical undergraduate, plain of dress, quick with a smile and perhaps possessed with a little extra spring in her step, but otherwise decidedly ordinary. And for Ms. Hu, a sophomore at Shanghai Normal University, coming across as ordinary is just fine, given the parallel life she leads. For several hours each week she repairs to a little-known on-campus office crammed with computers, where she logs in unsuspected by other students...

Here goes… First, you should know that all moderators have authority on the Religion Forum and we are individuals and therefore what is tolerable to one may not be tolerable to another.
