The day my oldest daughter was born, I held her in my arms in the hospital and made two promises: "First, I promise I will never leave your mother; and second, I'll show up. I'll do everything I can to be at your recitals and ball games and dinner around the table." My baby laid there in my arms blinking, breathing, oblivious to the magnitude of the words I was saying. My promises seemed so valiant when I made them at the hospital. But when I got home, I realized my daughter was going to need my wife and me...

Hi guys, While surfing FR today I came across a funny meme of a photo of the back of a $20 bill, with words "DONALD TRUMP LIVES HERE" in red and an arrow pointing to the White House. I've spent 20 minutes looking for it, Googled it, Duck Duck Go, nothing. Can someone post a copy to this thread please?

It’s getting to be that time of year again: when jack-o’-lanterns glow and mummies and witches roam the streets. But there is one Halloween tradition that really gives me the chills: Jimmy Kimmel’s annual candy prank. Every Halloween for the past six years, ABC’s late-night talk show host has encouraged viewers to tell their children, on the morning after the holiday, that they have eaten the kids’ entire candy stash. Parents record their children’s reactions and send the videos to Kimmel, who broadcasts some of the clips on his show.

Xi Jinping is poised to become the most potent Chinese leader since Mao Zedong — and to guide his country’s continued emergence as a fascist global superpower for at least the next decade. The 19th Congress of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) is scheduled to start on October 18, when it will appoint leaders and establish the country’s course for the next five years. Xi undoubtedly will be re-appointed head of the CCP, followed by re-selection as China’s president and head of state early next year. But he appears also to have overturned the collegial, limited term system of leadership...

Great job by the NJ Devil fans helping out a young kid that forgot the words to our National Anthem. Beautiful little girl who had some stage fright and the crowd picked her up. Awesome.

A former policeman is still claiming he was abducted by aliens while out on patrol, some 37 years later. Alan Godfrey’s ‘close encounter’ made him famous in 1980, but it also led to the demise of his career as a copper. In his tell-all book, the 70-year-old alleges his superiors tried to silence him and get him sectioned. The ‘abduction’ on November 28, 1980, attracted national headlines. He was even interviewed by Frank Bough on BBC Breakfast. Alan says his fame came at a price. He says his superiors banned him from Todmorden police station, effectively ending his nine-year career...

To punish nine-year-old Dericka Lindsay for supposedly “being out of control,” her 325-pound cousin Veronica Green Posey sat on the child. For 10 minutes, Posey remained atop Dericka. Even after the child screamed to her nearby parents that she could not breathe, the 64-year-old woman continued to sit on the girl for another two minutes. After Posey finally relented, Dericka was unresponsive. Posey called 911 and attempted CPR. It didn’t work. Doctors at Baptist Hospital, where the Dericka was rushed, pronounced the girl dead. Police arrested Posey and charged her with homicide and cruelty to a child. Officers also arrested...

KOKOMO, Ind.-- Howard County gun owner Billy Swaggerty said he learned a bitter lesson after his back door was kicked in last spring and more than a dozen firearms, some of them assault-style rifles, and the safes they were kept in were stolen. “Be careful who you tell, keep it to yourself, don’t be bragging about how many guns you got, be careful who you let into your house and make sure you buy a quality safe,” he said. “And that’s another thing…don’t let strippers in your house.” Swaggerty said last winter a woman he knew in passing showed up...

This is incredible, there is a camera installed outside the international space station. Two NASA astronauts have successfully done it. They have replaced a blown fuse and installing a new high definition camera on the starboard truss of the station. During the spacewalk, which lasted six hours and 49 minutes, the duo of Randy Bresnik, Expedition 53 Commander and Joe Acaba, Flight Engineer at NASA worked quickly and were able to complete several "get ahead" tasks, Melanie Whiting from NASA wrote in a blogpost.

Tomorrow the tarheels of UNC will play th Hokies of Va Tech. My son died at the age of 43 in July of this year. He was a big North Carolina fan. Including his wife, who loved him and misses him very much. I am so thankful for her, she was a Hokie fan and he was a Tarheel fan. This was the wayi it was. Sports fans, you understand this. A founding member of a "mom and pop" motorcycle group testified Friday that before the Cossacks took over a biker coalition meeting at Twin Peaks and engaged in a deadly shootout with Bandidos, one ran over his wife's foot, they circled her and spit in her face. Twitter was extremely skeptical of Ivanka’s “punk phase”, with many people pointing out that Nirvana was a grunge band. US President Donald Trump’s oldest daughter Ivanka revealed she went through a “punk phase” as a teenager, but Twitter wasn’t buying it. In a chapter from her mother Ivana Trump’s new memoir titled “Raising Trump,” Ivanka writes that she had a punk phase in the nineties during which she dyed her hair blue and was a diehard fan of the iconic grunge band Nirvana and its legendary frontman Kurt Cobain. “During my punk phase in the nineties, I was really into...

"... Death, in a medical sense, is when the heart stops beating and cuts off blood to the brain. This means the brain’s functions also stop and can no longer keep the body alive. Parnia explained that the brain’s cerebral cortex — the so-called “thinking part” of the brain — also slows down instantly, and flatlines, meaning that no brainwaves are visible on an electric monitor, within 2 to 20 seconds. “At the same time, we also study the human mind and consciousness in the context of death, to understand whether consciousness becomes annihilated or whether it continues after you’ve...
