What happened when my daughter saw me kiss my wife
FoxNews ^ | Oct 21, 2017 | Joshua Rogers

The day my oldest daughter was born, I held her in my arms in the hospital and made two promises: "First, I promise I will never leave your mother; and second, I'll show up. I'll do everything I can to be at your recitals and ball games and dinner around the table."

My baby laid there in my arms blinking, breathing, oblivious to the magnitude of the words I was saying.

My promises seemed so valiant when I made them at the hospital. But when I got home, I realized my daughter was going to need my wife and me to do a lot more than just stay married and love each other. She needed to see a regular demonstration of our love. That was not our strong suit.

Right after church service, while we were still in our pews, I turned and kissed my wife. There was a lady who was sitting behind us who said “Hey now, no PDA”.

My response was “Showing love in God’s house might just be the only time someone sees love.”

Very nice, thanks for posting. My husband has always made a point of showing affection to me. He recently told our youngest (age four), “You sure have a beautiful mom.” She just said,”And me, too.” Oh to have the confidence of the youngest of six!

Sweet story.

I remember such things about my mother and father, both now long gone to their eternal reward. Once my father squeezed my mother’s shoulder and said, “You’re my girl.”

I (about 4 years old?) said “But I’m your girl!”
Not missing a beat, he said, “She’ll always be my big girl, and you’ll always be me little girl.”

See? Sixty-two years later and I haven’t forgotten.

A deacon in our church recently died. He & his wife were in their mid-80s & had been married over 60 years. They often held hands entering the church, during the sermon, and leaving. They often had their arms around each other during the sermon.

Not sure I saw them kissing in church, but I always thought the way they treated each other after 60+ years of marriage was inspirational.

His wife was struggling with Alzheimer’s before his death. Since it, she has mostly lapsed into total unawareness. The family says she doesn’t know her husband is dead. It may be one of the truly rare times that Alzheimer’s is a blessing.

” The family says she doesn’t know her husband is dead. It may be one of the truly rare times that Alzheimer’s is a blessing”.

I knew an elderly couple that had been married for 63 years. she had Alzheimers and was told that her husband had “gone to be with God”. Three minutes later she said “Tell Carl to come visit me”.

Lovely! His little girls are also learning about the kind of man they will want to marry. Fathers teach so many things to us and this is a biggie.

When my girls were little and I did something for special for my wife but not all of them, I would get an indignant “I see how it is”

My reply was “take notes so you know what to look for.”

3 out of 4 daughters married, they all picked pretty good ones. I’m not sure if it was because of me or in spite of me, but I’m happy for them... and praying for the last daughter to also pick a good one.

As a Husband of a now wheelchair bound wife I speak from the heart.

First God calls on Husbands to love their wives as Christ loved the Church.

Second Husband is not just a noun. it is a verb as well rember it is not just who you are it is also WHAT YOU DO!

Sounds like you had a LOT to do with that! We learn about self-worth and self respect from our dads. Keep up the good examples. Good job!

When I first got saved and went to my first church service in a church outside the denomination I grew up in, I saw how the Christian men were treating their wives and kids and was in awe.

Now, I grew up in a fairly decent home by non-Christian standards and my dad did a lot around the house that was not common for men to do in those days. And he was always good to my mom, never berated her or fought in front of us.

But still, the contrast I saw was incredible and I made the decision that day that I would marry only a Christian man.

I know.

There are many who wish it had been that way for them and it was not.

I wonder...

...if Joseph ever squeezed Mary's shoulder and said; “You’re my girl.”

My family thrives on having fun and teasing each other. I finally decided my love language was teasing and sarcasm.

We have a group on Facebook messenger that often goes off very funny.

The love and playfulness my wife and I exhibit has grown with us and our children. Most of them have flown the coop and that’s how we get together as a family.

Yesterday, I was stopped at a red light with a friend of mine in the car. I looked in the mirror and saw my 18 year old son creeping up behind me to bump me with his truck. I dumped my car in reverse and hit him first.

Then he hit me, then I hit him. My friend said something about my kid getting my sense of humor.
