A crime as minor as stealing candy from a business can draw the attention of Millington's police brass if the timing's right. That would be lunchtime. A suspect was captured moments after the merchandise was taken from the Family Dollar Store around noon Thursday -- chased down by Insp. Charlie Coleman, as Police Chief Rick Jewell handled radio traffic from an unmarked car and Insp. Reggie Fields scoured the area for the fleeing suspect. A 25-year-old man named Bond -- James E. Bond -- was captured by the trio of middle-aged police commanders. Not only that, Coleman, 45, ran the...

MILLINGTON, Tenn., July 27, 2005 – Millington, Tenn., recently held a parade to show its appreciation for the service of the Memphis-based Army National Guard 1171st and 655th Transportation Companies and the 380th Medical Company. Of the more than 50 convoys Spc. James Pack rode in during the past year and a half, the parade was the first one in which he could relax. As the floats, dance groups, cars and bands wove their way down city streets, the only crashes came from cymbals, the pitter-patter was from snare drums, and those watching the procession only applauded, took pictures and...

An estimated 7,500 Americans Rally in support of troops draws massive crowd, eyes of nation 03/26/03 Eric Einhart The overwhelming crowds and massive gridlock did not seem to deter local patriots Saturday morning, as miles of bumper-to-bumper traffic lined Highway 51 in Millington for the “Stand Up For America, Support Our Troops Rally” in USA Stadium. Approximately 7,500 residents from throughout Millington and the Mid-South area, dressed in red, white and blue attire and sporting yellow ribbons, waved flags, signs and photographs of troops fighting in the war against Iraq and chanted “USA, USA!” to show their support for the...

The rally was instigated by Freeper gaila, whom you will be seeing shortly and several times. A couple of weeks ago, Gail decided that if there were going to be rallies across America this weekend in support of our troops, that we should have one here in the Memphis area. So she enlisted the American Legion Millington Post 252 and Col. Tony Lopez, USAF (Ret.) to her cause. Together, they brought WREC 600AM talk radio hosts Mike Fleming and Craig Robbins aboard and it took way off. WREC and its sister station 990 KWAM (I bet you guessed from...
