136108 Haumea — one of the strangest worlds of them all — was introduced into the solar system menagerie about ten years ago. Discovered by Mike Brown (@Plutokiller extraordinaire) and team in late December 2004 from the Palomar Observatory, Haumea (say HOW-meh) received its formal name on September 17, 2008 along with its dwarf planet designation. Haumea is a fast rotator, with a ‘day’ equal to about four hours. We know this due to periodic changes in brightness. Haumea also has a high albedo of about 80%, similar to freshly fallen snow. Models suggest that Haumea is about twice as...

The paper ... noted that a number of large, very remote objects share a similar orbital angle. That's suspicious if you're an astronomer expecting to see a random distribution of objects. The key orbital feature is known, rather obtusely, as the “argument of perihelion.” We're not shy of complicated orbital concepts (we try to toss around the phrase "obliquity of the ecliptic" whenever possible), but this one is not very easy to explain. "The argument of perihelion is the angle at which an object comes to perihelion with respect to the ecliptic plane," Sheppard said in an e-mail. Mike Brown,...

As time passes people to seem forget the facts in this case. I read the entire DOJ report and was amazed at what the media ignored. To this day people still cite the white construction workers who said Brown had his hands up...but they leave out that these same workers also claimed 3 cops were chasing Brown and that 2 were shooting at him. For more info, I created the following. Hope you find it useful as the debate reignites about #MikeBrown PART 1: PART 2:

Shades of 1968 and the Days of Rage? Black Lives Matter co-founder Patrisse Cullors has announced that "any opportunity we have to shut down a Republican convention, we will." Appearing on today's Melissa Harris-Perry show on MSNBC, Cullors also blithely spoke of "the murder of Mike Brown" in Ferguson, MO. Neither of the co-guest hosts sitting in for Harris-Perry, Richard Liu and Janet Mock, challenged Cullors' characterization. This despite the fact that even Eric Holder's Justice Department found no wrongdoing on the part of the police officer who shot Brown. View the video here.

On Saturday, Chuck C. Johnson invited his Twitter followers to send some money his way so that he could focus on his latest project: “taking out” the civil rights activist DeRay Mckesson. Johnson is a 26-year-old California man who has been described as “Twitter’s most infamous right-wing troll” (Mother Jones), a “digital Darth Vader” (Politico), “your least favorite person” (the Washington Post), and “mood slime” (the New York Times). He is best known for outing the subject at the center of the discredited Rolling Stone UVA story, publishing the home addresses of New York Times Ferguson reporters Julie Bosman and...

WASHINGTON — The Justice Department has begun work on a legal memo recommending no civil rights charges against a white police officer in Ferguson, Mo., who killed an unarmed black teenager in August, law enforcement officials said. That would close the politically charged case in the shooting death of 18-year-old Michael Brown. The investigation by the F.B.I., which is complete, found no evidence to support civil rights charges against the officer, Darren Wilson, the officials said. A broader civil rights investigation into allegations of discriminatory traffic stops and excessive force by the Ferguson Police Department remains open, however. That investigation...

A new arguement and outrage is emerging in Fergusen. While the white officer who shot Mike Brown goes free, another officer, a black man by the name of Dawon Gore, is currently in trouble for simply striking a white man with a batton. The problem is...his victim was black. Internet meme's with the huge factual error like the one above are tweeted and retweeted or radicals will simply post inncorrect things like this on Twitter : When you point out their error, many will ask for proof. For that we go to Officer Dawon Gore's own words: “Officer Darren Wilson...

Around 200 students gathered on the Sundial on Monday night following the announcement in Ferguson, Missouri, that a grand jury decided police officer Darren Wilson will not be charged in the death of Michael Brown. The gathering was one of many that erupted across New York City on Monday night, though it was smaller and quieter than the ones that eventually occupied the Brooklyn, Manhattan, and Robert F. Kennedy bridges. “We’re here in solidarity with Ferguson. We’re here in memory of Michael Brown—in solidarity with Marissa Alexander. We’re here in memory of Tamar Rice,” Asha Rosa, CC ’16 and a...

FERGUSON, Mo. (Reuters) - Honking horns and banging a metal bucket, a small but growing group of protesters awaited Monday's grand jury decision, swarming the Ferguson Police Department and meeting briefly with the father of slain black teen Michael Brown. Mike Brown Sr., whose unarmed son was killed by a white police officer on Aug. 9, slowed down in a car to chat with demonstrators after hearing that the secret panel had reached a decision on whether to indict Officer Darren Wilson in the Aug. 9 shooting. Protester Byron Conley, father of a teen son, said he spoke with Brown...

The Governor of the state, Jay Nixon, has declared a state of emergency and plans to mobilize the National Guard in anticipation of an imminent grand jury announcement on the Michael Brown case. Tensions are high in the area, as residents, businesses and police brace themselves for another round of rioting in the mainly black suburb of St. Louis. Their fears are well founded, as seasoned protest organizers are currently training activists to close in on and “shut down” the business district of nearby Clayton on the first business day after the grand jury goes public. Michael McPhearson The key...

Activists have promised to "burn Ferguson to the ground" should Darren Wilson not be charged in the death of Michael Brown. A grand jury investigating the incident is likely to release their decision on the matter this week. In anticipation of this, some protesters have made their intentions clear: either the grand jury brings back an indictment, or Ferguson will burn. Here are just a few examples. "We will make sure:" "Needs to:" "To the ground:"

The former St. Louis County Police Chief has said he believes federal authorities are purposely leaking details of the Michael Brown case because they already know that no charges are going to be brought against Officer Darren Wilson. Tim Fitch has claimed the controversial New York Times article published last week which details a frantic struggle between 18-year-old Brown and Wilson over his weapon inside a squad car is all part of a strategy to 'let people down slowly'. The retired police chief says he believes federal authorities accept it is 'probably very unlikely' that the grand jury will recommend...

On both social media and comment pages about Ferguson, protesters have specifically stated that "white people" are their enemy. Not "white supremacists," "racists," or "bigots," but white people as a whole. The stunning admission has been repeatedly written on places like twitter or the pro-Ferguson protest site Go Black Central. In the article, "THREE WALMARTS SHUT DOWN! SO MUCH POWER IN FERGUSON THAT MAINSTREAM MEDIA WON’T COVER IT!" an angry protester (and "top commenter") wrote that "Whites or White Hispanics" are the enemy: And on Twitter, horrifyingly racist comments like this are often written with "#Ferguson" included (expletive redacted): And...
