These beverages are being booted. Starbucks’ olive oil-infused drinks are being nixed just a year after being added to the menu as the company’s new CEO looks to streamline service. Oleato products will be permanently removed from the core menu starting Nov. 7, when the Starbucks’ holiday drinks launch, according to a memo obtained by Bloomberg News. The memo said that Starbucks is “saying goodbye to Starbucks Oleato beverages and toffee nut syrup.” New CEO Brian Niccol, who took over the chain Sept. 9, noted that one of his priorities to accelerate growth at the company is to simplify the...

McDonald's has given up on its bid to sell meat-free beef burger in America. US president Joe Erlinger has said the McPlant has been ditched because customers did not want fake meat. The chain had been testing the McPlant at several hundred restaurants in California and Texas since trials began in late 2021. Developed with Beyond Meat, it was made from pea and rice proteins. While it has flopped in the US, it has been a hit in the UK, Germany, Holland and Portugal. But there is little chance of a return to America. McDonald's is now shifting its focus...

President Biden on Thursday jokingly warned Wagner Group boss Yevgeny Prigozhin to watch what he eats following a failed coup in Russia last month after Prigozhin briefly led a revolt with his private military. “If I were he, I’d be careful what I ate; I’d keep my eye on my menu,” Biden quipped at a news conference in Helsinki. Prigozhin’s whereabouts are currently unknown after his march on the Kremlin abruptly ended less than 24 hours after it began. Moscow earlier this week claimed that Prigozhin met with Russian President Vladimir Putin after the coup, which he viewed as treason.

IKEA in Atlanta is under fire after its management team devised a 'racially insensitive' menu for Juneteenth which featured fried chicken and watermelon. Bosses purportedly sent out the menu to employees in an email last Friday, saying they wanted to serve the foods to customers as a way to 'honor' the federal holiday. However, the management team - which allegedly featured no black employees - failed to realize that many of the food items have been derogatorily associated with black Americans for more than a century. According to NPR, both fried chicken and watermelon were common foods fed to slaves...

Chili’s, a restaurant chain that’s part of Brinker International Inc. EAT, +3.68% , said Friday that on Sept. 18, menus nationwide will be reduced to 75 items, down from 125 appetizers, entrees, cocktails and more, the total reached in January. The chain launched in 1975 with a 25-item menu that included burgers, beer and margaritas. The new, reduced menu will give the chain the room to focus on its core menu of burgers, ribs and fajitas, the company said. “Over the years, like many bar and grill chains, Chili’s chased consumer trends, expanded the menu and tried to be all...

The Food and Drug Administration is going to try its hand at shaming consumers into making healthier choices when they go out to eat. Just before the Thanksgiving holiday, the FDA announced a controversial and expansive rule that will require certain establishments with 20 or more locations -- including chain restaurants, grocery and convenience stores, and movie theaters -- to post calorie information on their menus and menu boards. A separate rule was also issued requiring operators of 20 or more vending machines to post calorie information. Section 4205 of the Affordable Care Act, a provision included in the law...

Alaska man feeds black bear barbecue meat, gets mauled for dessert The drunken man could be charged with illegally feeding wildlife after the Alaska Department of Fish and Game says he 'pretty much goaded' the beast into the attack. Beer, barbecue and black bears are never a good mix. An Alaska man learned that the hard way this weekend when he threw a hungry bear a piece of barbecued meat — only to be mauled by the same bear. "He'd been drinking," Alaska State Trooper spokeswoman Beth Ipsen told the Anchorage Daily News of the man. The unidentified man was...

A lunch that will live in infamy? That’s what at least one parent at elite Sidwell Friends (yes, Sasha and Malia’s school!) wondered upon seeing what the school cafeteria listed as its “Pearl Harbor Day” menu Wednesday: A heavily Japanese-inspired lineup, including teriyaki chicken and edamame (as well as more generically Asian delicacies like tofu, fried rice, fortune cookies and “oriental noodle salad”). A school rep told us this was just a fluke — not a meal intended to commemorate the 1941 Japanese attack on U.S. forces: The contractor that prepares school lunches randomly assigned an Asian menu to Dec....

When Shanaya Edgell arrived early yesterday morning at a McDonald’s in Janesville, Wisconsin, she was expecting to order from the fast food joint’s regular menu--Big Macs, french fries, Chicken McNuggets, and the like. < p> Except it was around 3 AM and the restaurant had already switched over to its breakfast menu--hash browns, Egg McMuffins, hotcakes, and the like. This enraged Edgell, according to Janesville Police Department officers. The 22-year-old--for some unexplained reason--turned on her boyfriend, biting him on the lip and tearing off his shirt. At some point during her meltdown, Edgell climbed atop the roof of her 40-year-old...

So much for first lady Michelle Obama’s healthy eating crusade. Sunday's Super Bowl menu at the White House includes bratwurst, kielbasa, cheeseburgers, deep-dish pizza, and buffalo wings. There will also be twice-baked potatoes, chips and dip, and ice cream. Green salad is available, but why bother when German potato salad is on the buffet?

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) -- A Sacramento restaurant agreed to stop serving live shrimp after an animal-rights group said the practice was cruel to the shellfish. People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals said the restaurant, Nishiki Sushi, suggested squeezing lemon juice on the shrimps' exposed flesh so they would writhe as they were eaten. The dish is commonly referred to as "dancing shrimp" and is considered a delicacy in Japan. PETA contacted the restaurant after receiving dozens of complaints about the practice.

Economides clan defend buying aging meat and other frugal strategies As the American economy sputters and families continue to struggle mightily just to keep their heads above water, the Economides family of Arizona believe they provide a model for how to not just survive, but thrive on a tight budget. Eschewing credit cards, car loans and home equity borrowing, the clan of seven stay solvent and then some on just $44,000 a year — and that includes owning a home in the pricey Phoenix suburb of Scottsdale. Mind you, they eat nutritious meals and their children are decked out in...

Domino's Pizza pioneered a halal-only menu but has had to ditch the idea because of poor sales.Three of the pizza chain's branches banned pork and brought in meats satisfying Islamic laws 18 months ago but have reverted to their usual menu, including the meateor, pepperoni and Hawaiian. The pilot ‘hasn’t had the impact expected and the company has reluctantly decided to return to a conventional Domino’s menu’, it said in a letter to customers. ‘It did seem pretty unfair on non-Muslim pizza lovers,’ said pizza fan Chris Yates, 31. ‘It was as if I wasn’t allowed ham or pork on...

Yesterday, I spent a little time at a local pizzeria to find out more about the impact of the new federal menu mandate in the real world. Davanni’s has 21 locations throughout the Twin Cities, a smaller, local chain that suddenly must now comply with this federal requirement to publish the caloric content of each of its menu items on all of its printed presentations. However, these restaurants have a problem when they offer their customers a wide range and high number of options — as most pizzerias do. Ken Schelper, a Vice President of Davanni’s, sat down with me...

A fast-food outlet became the first in Britain to sell pizzas with an extra special topping — zebra, it emerged Sunday. Yummy Yummy Italia in Burnley, northern England, launched the controversial pizza after owner Arash Fard, 33, visited London and saw frogs’ legs pizzas on the menu, local newspaper the Lancashire Telegraph reported. The unusual meat toppings are bought from "alternative meats" supplier Kezie, which says the ingredients are ethically sourced from responsible farms. Fard's zebra creation is not his first time experimenting with ingredients. He told the Lancashire Telegraph that his range of buffalo, venison, kangaroo and crocodile pizzas...
