A controversial and classified memo shows that Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein okayed an application shortly after taking office last year to monitor a former Trump campaign associate, according to a report. The Department of Justice under President Trump extended surveillance on Carter Page, believing that he was acting as a Russian agent, the New York Times reported late Sunday, citing people familiar with the memo’s contents. The document faulted the FBI and the DOJ for failing to completely explain to the intelligence court judge in seeking the warrant that they were relying on information supplied by Christopher Steele, who...

We just got word that FBI Deputy McCabe, a guy who had a very difficult relationship with President Trump is going to step down from his position as per a breaking report via NBC News. There’s no motive provided for McCabe’s stepping down from his position, but we can safely speculate about it a bit later, right...

FOX and Friends host Pete Hegseth the release may be on Monday. Sara Carter: We know that probably within the week, now I’m not guessing tomorrow. I’ve been hearing different things. President Trump broke with top officials at the Justice Department and called for the release of a classified memo purported to list Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act abuses by the U.S. government, The Washington Post reported Saturday. Despite warnings from top officials at the agency, Trump reportedly told Attorney General Jeff Sessions through chief of staff John Kelly that he wants to see the memo released, believing that it will shed light on the special counsel investigation. Trump “is inclined to have that released just because it will shed light,” a senior administration official told the Post. “Apparently all the rumors...

I want to start out by defining what I mean by “false pretense.”https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/False_pretenses “In criminal law, property is obtained by false pretensesa[›] when the acquisition results from intentional misrepresenting of a past or existing fact. While we all sink our teeth into immigration, the fallout from the Democrats’ failed government shutdown, and this New York Times story that Trump wanted to fire Mueller last June—he didn’t, by the way—you’re missing the fight between House Republicans, the FBI, and the Department of Justice over this FISA memo. The four-page document details alleged abuses that are said to be akin to the activities of the KGB. Some lawmakers said it could lead to deep changes within the DOJ. Democrats have pushed back saying it’s a political stunt, aimed at undermining the credibility of the FBI. There’s speculation...

...It didn’t take long for a report to emerge claiming that Russian-sponsored Twitter accounts and bots were the real driving force behind the viral call for the release of the memo. Without worrying about the veracity of this convenient claim, all the usual suspects giddily spread the story across social media — probably because they have such a deep reverence for truth in the Era of Trump. The report also prompted Sen. Dianne Feinstein and Rep. Adam Schiff, both Democrats, to pull out every fearmongering catchphrase available to demand that Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey and Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg perform...

Assistant Attorney General Stephen Boyd told House Intelligence Committee chairman Rep. Devin Nunes in a letter Wednesday that releasing a memo prepared by the committee's staff alleging abuses at the Department of Justice and FBI would be "extraordinarily reckless." Republicans have been urging for the release of the memo, which, as Boyd pointed out, likely contains highly classified information. In the letter, obtained by CBS News, Boyd highlights how crucial it is that the committee not release the memo to the public for reasons of national security. The memo describes the FBI's supposed abuses of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act...

Washington, DC – Today, Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA), the Ranking Member of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, released the following statement: “Last week, House Intelligence Committee Republicans voted to release to all Members of the House a highly misleading ‘memo’ attacking the conduct of the Russia investigation by the FBI and the DOJ. Like its other attacks on those agencies, this represents another effort to distract from the Russia probe and undermine the Special Counsel. With this latest gambit, however, the Majority seeks to selectively and misleadingly characterize classified information in an effort to protect the President at...

As the nation hurtled toward a government shutdown on Thursday, January 18, another drama of huge significance was unfolding in the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence (HPSCI, usually referred to as the House Intelligence Committee), under chairman Devin Nunes (R-Calif.). The committee voted to release transcripts of the testimony of Glenn Simpson, co-founder of Fusion GPS, the research company that produced the infamous fake “dossier” on Donald Trump’s alleged ties to Russia. The committee also created an enormous stir by producing a four-page classified memo that was available only for members of the House of Representatives to view in...
