A controversial and classified memo shows that Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein okayed an application shortly after taking office last year to monitor a former Trump campaign associate, according to a report.
The Department of Justice under President Trump extended surveillance on Carter Page, believing that he was acting as a Russian agent, the New York Times reported late Sunday, citing people familiar with the memo’s contents.
The document faulted the FBI and the DOJ for failing to completely explain to the intelligence court judge in seeking the warrant that they were relying on information supplied by Christopher Steele, who compiled the disputed dossier that contains unsubstantiated claims about Trump’s ties to Russia, the newspaper said.
Research for the dossier had been paid for by Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign and the Democratic National Committee.
A number of top DOJ officials can approve such surveillance but the responsibility usually falls to the deputy attorney general, the newspaper said.
The report also said the FBI and the DOJ did nothing improper in seeking the surveillance warrant against Page, who was part of the campaign until September 2016.
A White House spokesman said Trump wants “transparency throughout this process.”
“Based on numerous news reports, top officials at the F.B.I. have engaged in conduct that shows bias against President Trump and bias for Hillary Clinton,” Hogan Gidley told the Times.
“While President Trump has the utmost respect and support for the rank-and-file members of the F.B.I., the anti-Trump bias at the top levels that appear to have existed is troubling.”

It has been leaked, but I doubt Rosenstein acted alone. The whole thing will eventually leak out if not released soon.

If true, US Marshals need to be dispatched to collect Mr. Rosenstein.

If true, RR signed off on FISA Warrant based on an unverified, operation
research propaganda dossier.
He should be fired, then indicted.
If Congress knows, anyone and everyone with an interest knows, including enemies foreign and domestic.

Rosenstein himself is the likely source. He leaked to the NYT because he knew there would be positive spin. Adam Schiff is the other possibility.
Of course not. It is a non sequitur. The dirtiest snooping was before Trump was elected. The FISA warrant referenced in the article was sought after Rosenstein was appointed, which was April 26, 2017.
Rosenstein is one of the wheels of the sedition wagon.

No it does not compute, the info used to obtain a FISA warrant must the verified as true.
....and this part of the memo is the least troublesome part (not that it doesn’t hurt Rosenstein mind you) but they want the ‘is that all to it’ out front first before the ‘dossier’ illegal mess comes out
It was reported in the New York Times - obviously a Swamp leak designed to undercut the pending release of the House Intelligence Committee memo outlining FBI and DOJ corruption.
The last paragraph outlines the Swamp strategy to do this. The memo will be portrayed as "written by House Republicans — as carefully selected information intended to discredit the investigation into Russian involvement in the election and any collusion on the part of the Trump campaign". Expect to hear this over, and over, and over, ad nauseam over the next weeks.
We should also be asking the WH to reveal who recommended Rosenstein to President Trump.

It is known who recommended RR. It was someone brought into the Trump team by Chris Christie, Ron Tenpas.
