In the first congressional election of the year, Pat Ryan and Marc Molinaro are vying for the seat left open by Antonio Delgado.Although the seats have been redrawn for the November rematch this is a poor reflection on the ability of McCarthy and his ability to win close seats. The Democrat won last night 51-49%.

We demand civility," he wrote on Twitter. It's not clear who did this, but Molinaro referred to them as "radical leftists who smashed windows, spray painted our door, glued our locks, and left a threatening note behind." The governor's race is getting a bit more crowded. Dutchess County Executive Marc Molinaro, a Republican, kicked-off his campaign for the statehouse Monday. He attacked Gov. Andrew Cuomo, arguing that the Democrat is devoted to his own self-preservation and presidential ambitions at the expense of the state. Molinaro also said that all New Yorkers are paying a price for the state's corrupt government.

With Eldridge bowing out, Democrats have some options among local officials, including Ulster County Executive Mike Hein. Former state Sen. Terry Gipson has also been mentioned as a potential candidate. On the Republican side, Gibson is expected to retire at the end of his current term as he considers a run for statewide office in 2018, most likely for governor.
