The U.S. Food and Drug Administration's top vaccine official, Vinay Prasad, has left the agency after just three months as Director of the Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research, a government spokesperson said. Prasad, an oncologist who was a fierce critic of U.S. COVID-19 vaccine and mask mandates, had been appointed in May by FDA Commissioner Marty Makary. Together they had promised to speed regulatory action and pilot new review pathways. In recent days, criticism of Prasad's tenure has intensified around the agency's handling of a gene therapy for Duchenne muscular dystrophy from Sarepta Therapeutics (SRPT.O), opens new tab. The...

Dr. Marty Makary has been confirmed as the new head of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Makary, a Johns Hopkins University surgeon and researcher, was confirmed by the Senate with a 56-44 vote. During his Senate hearing, Makary said "common sense" should be used in health care alongside science. - While he is generally supportive of vaccines, in the past Makary has opposed blanket vaccine mandates for people other than health care workers. -He has previously made headlines for his comments during the COVID-19 pandemic, which included looking at natural immunity and questioning the requirement for booster shots in...

At this point, the only people who believe COVID did not leak from a Wuhan lab are diehards with I (Heart) Fauci bumper stickers. The evidence is clear: The pandemic was the result of irresponsible science. Here are 10 reasons why: 1. The “suicide” of the Wuhan lab collaborator, Dr. Yusen A key Chinese scientist who collaborated with the Wuhan Institute of Virology, Dr. Zhou Yusen, filed for a patent for a COVID vaccine on February 24, 2020, according to documents obtained by The Australian. The early timing of his filing raises concerns that the unnamed vaccine was in development...

Public-health officials ruined many lives by insisting that workers with natural immunity to Covid-19 be fired if they weren’t fully vaccinated. But after two years of accruing data, the superiority of natural immunity over vaccinated immunity is clear. By firing staff with natural immunity, employers got rid of those least likely to infect others. It’s time to reinstate those employees with an apology. For most of last year, many of us called for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to release its data on reinfection rates, but the agency refused. Finally last week, the CDC released data from New...

It’s easy to put a person in a box, to write someone off as an anti-vaxxer. But it isn’t always that simple. Take Marty Makary, a professor of surgery and health policy at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He has made a name for himself during the pandemic, partly through his appearances on Fox News shows like Tucker Carlson’s. But while he’s certainly a contrarian pandemic pundit, he isn’t a fringe voice, nor a political one. He writes op-eds for places like The Washington Post and The New York Times. He told Nightly, unprompted, that he wasn’t a...

When most Americans showed up to get their first dose of an mRNA vaccine, they were sternly warned that they must schedule a second dose within a month. In my case, I politely explained that I would come back for my second dose at 3 months. The scheduler got flustered and treated me like I was a fugitive of the law. But a growing body of evidence over the last several months has shown that a longer interval provides better immunity in the long-term. It may even eliminate the need for a booster shot that's now being recommended.

On Monday’s broadcast of the Fox News Channel’s “Faulkner Focus,” Fox News Medical Contributor and Johns Hopkins School of Medicine Professor Dr. Marty Makary argued that the biggest failure in the coronavirus pandemic response is the failure to tailor policies based on individual risk, and that “those who have chosen not to get vaccinated and have not had COVID, they do so at their own individual risk. We’ve never seen this level of martial law and paternalism to prevent mild infection in 300 million Americans.”

Fox News contributor Dr. Marty Makary warned against a new "wave of fear" taking hold over the omicron variant, warning it could fuel a "pandemic of lunacy" in the post COVID-19 era. The professor of health policy at Johns Hopkins University joined the "Brian Kilmeade Show" on Thursday to discuss the new variant, explaining it appears to be statistically milder than others.
