U.S. House candidate Richard Tisei is openly gay. He's also openly Republican. "You know what, in Massachusetts, it's a lot easier to be gay than be a Republican," he says, "as far as trying to get elected to office." But Tisei could make political history for the Massachusetts GOP. Not just because they could win their first U.S. House seat in 15 years, but also because Tisei would be the first openly gay Republican to be elected to a term in Congress. Republicans are generally long shots to get elected in this solidly Democratic state. But Tisei's upset bid is...

Public Policy Polling is one of the most accurate pollsters aroind, Indeed, they were the first to signal that Brown would win the special election in Massachusetts called to replace the late Senator Ted Kennedy. In a late summer surge, U.S. Sen. Scott Brown has jumped to a 5 point lead in a new poll in his race for re-election. Public Policy Polling places Brown in the lead over his Democratic challenger Elizabeth Warren 49-44 percent. This is the same poll that placed Warren ahead by 5 points in March.

That evening at the Burlington Mall food court, the first things one noticed were some uniformed Burlington police and also several uniformed mall cops. The mall cops approached anyone they suspected was a reporter and told them they couldn't take photos or videos. (For the flood of people on "Appreciation Day" there were no police that we could see and maybe three mall cops. And lots of people took photos and videos the entire time with no trouble.) Around 7:45 pm about a dozen or so activists suddenly came marching into the food court and gathered in front of Chick-fil-A....

I believe in small businesses. They’re the heart and soul of our economy. They create jobs and opportunities for the future. Washington politicians .... claim they support small businesses, but they avoid talking about a harsh reality: The system is rigged against small business. These owners can’t afford armies of lobbyists in D.C., but the big corporations can. It’s those armies of lobbyists that create the loopholes and special breaks that let big corporations off the hook for paying taxes. While small businesses are left to pay the bills. .... When small businesses grow and flourish, we should applaud their...

BURLINGTON, Mass. - "Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day" on Wednesday, with supporters flooding the chain's franchises around the country, was countered with "kiss-ins" by same-sex couples at assorted locations Friday, At the Burlington Mall, heavy security was ready. But only about a dozen protesters gathered to kiss and tell. They said Chick-fil-A customers they may want to take a closer look at where they're spending their money. "Over the past 10 years, Chick-fil-A has donated almost $5 million to organizations that work actively against gay people's rights -- some of them certified hate groups -- and that's the real reason we're out...

The debates between Sen. Scott Brown (R-Mass.) and Harvard Law Professor Elizabeth Warren (D) will not be civil, the National Journal concludes. Asked by a reporter about some of Warren’s criticisms, Brown cut in, “Blah, blah, blah, blah."

A line snaked around and out of the Burlington Mall food court today as hundreds of people waited to eat chicken sandwiches on Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day. Jennifer Musil of Watertown waited for an hour for chicken strips and sweet tea because she disagreed with Boston Mayor Tom Menino’s approach in trying to dissuade Chick-fil-A from coming to the Hub because of its CEO’s opposition to gay marriage. “People can disagree on things and I am fine with that,” said Musil. “But I don’t think it’s the place of our government to tell a business what to believe,” said Musil, adding...

Supporters of Chick-fil-A are eating at restaurants in the chicken chain Wednesday as the company continues to be criticized for an executive's comments about gay marriage. Long lines were reported at Chick-fil-A restaurants at malls in Peabody and Burlington. Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, a Baptist minister, declared Wednesday national "Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day." Chick-fil-A president Dan Cathy told the Baptist Press last month that the Atlanta-based company was "guilty as charged" for backing "the biblical definition of a family." That unleashed a torrent of criticism from gay rights groups and others, who have called for boycotts and efforts to block...

Senator Scott Brown, who has earned kind words from Boston Mayor Thomas M. Menino despite their differing political parties, treaded carefully Friday when asked during a Boston.com chat about the mayor’s spat with Chick-fil-A over its opposition to gay marriage. “I disagree with what the CEO from Chick-fil-A said. I was glad he spoke further and said that his company does not discriminate,” Brown wrote from his South Boston campaign headquarters. Noting that Massachusetts has strong antidiscrimination laws that could prevent problems should the company decide to set up shop in Boston, Brown added, “If they move forward with the...

ELIZABETH WARREN: You know, this is just one more attempt to not talk about the central issues. But the way I look at this: I love little businesses. My daughter started a small business, my brother started a small business, my Aunt Alice started a small business. I worked in it when I was a teenager.

A record number of openly gay candidates are running for Congress. The contenders all say that their sexual orientation is pretty much a nonissue on the campaign trail, Roll Call’s Joshua Miller reports. “No one cares,” said Kyrsten Sinema, who is openly bisexual and a top candidate in the Democratic primary in Arizona’s 9th district. “It’s about my history of work in the district. … They don’t care three straws about the other stuff.” Other openly gay challenger candidates with a real shot of coming to Congress include: Sean Patrick Maloney, taking on freshman Rep. Nan Hayworth (R) in New...

On Monday, Florida Senator Marco Rubio blasted out an email to supporters on behalf of the Reclaim America Pac endorsing Scott Brown and explaining, in no uncertain terms, the myriad reasons why Bay State voters should not elect Elizabeth Warren to the United States Senate in November: Two years ago, I endorsed Scott Brown because I knew he would be a critical vote against expanded government, out-of-control spending, and the President's healthcare takeover. Now Scott Brown is running for reelection against an ultra-liberal backed by extreme big-government special interests. … Scott's opponent is Elizabeth Warren, an extreme liberal who was...

We all remember the euphoria when Scott Brown won the special election to the so-called Ted Kennedy seat in 2010. He was supposed to be the 41st vote against cloture on Obamacare. And we all know how that turned out. Despite the clear voice of the people, the president pulled out every trick imaginable to force that bill down our throats. That does not diminish Scott Brown's victory. But the truth is that because his original election was a special election, he had media attention and voter support from all over the country. Now we are approaching an important general...

Don't bet on Mitt Romney winning his home state of Massachusetts. Or even trying. Romney was never a hero in the liberal bastion, and aides say there are other ways he can win the White House without the 11 electoral votes the state offers.

The White House loves her. Cher loves her. But a lot of Democrats aren’t so wild about Elizabeth Warren’s Senate campaign these days. The high-powered, fast-running Warren campaign is starting to show some cracks and dings — fueling fresh scuttlebutt of internal dissent in the party. Sources say some national Democratic officials and unions are unhappy with Warren agreeing to a pact with Republican Scott Brown that could severely limit super PACs and third-party groups from running attack ads. Brown’s shrewd move to push the pledge comes as a number of polls show his popularity back on the rise in...
