Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) said that he will support the Assault Weapon Ban against what he calls conspiracy theorists, black helicopters and false flags: “I’ll vote for the ban because saving the lives of police officers, young and old, and innocent civilians, young and old, is more important than preventing imagined tyranny,”

Complete title: Obama: ‘President Does Not Have Power Under Constitution to Unilaterally Authorize a Military Attack’ (CNSNews.com) - As a presidential candidate, Sen. Barack Obama (D.-Ill.) emphatically stated that the Constitution does not give the president the authority to unilaterally authorize a military attack unless it is needed to stop an actual or imminent attack on the United States. Obama made the assertion in a Dec. 20, 2007 interview with the Boston Globe when reporter Charlie Savage asked him under what circumstances the president would have the constitutional authority to bomb Iran without first seeking authorization from Congress. “The President...

At Senate President Pro Tem Darrell Steinberg's first press conference on his first day as leader of the California Senate, he was asked whether he would make sure the budget was in print for 24 hours before a vote was taken. Yes, he replied, he would. Well, so much for that. Continuing in the long tradition of last-minute legislation, the state Senate and Assembly passed its $18 billion package of cuts, taxes and fund shifts this afternoon with the ink barely dry on the bills.

True Story About 'Mrs. Macaca' October 19, 2006 To the Editor: We had an interesting experience at Clifton Day this year. Myself, my 11-year-old son and a friend were walking up the street in the big crowd when we encountered Mrs. George Allen and her entourage. A large proportion were skinheads. We are a very political family and we talk politics around the breakfast and dinner table on a daily basis. For some reason, Mrs. Allen introduced herself to my son, who has a sweet "howdy-doody" face with freckles. Here is the exchange: Mrs. Allen: "I am Mrs. George Allen."...

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - Gov. Bill Richardson is coming clean on his draft record - the baseball draft, that is, admitting that his claim to have been a pick of the Kansas City A's in 1966 was untrue. For nearly four decades, Richardson, often mentioned as a possible Democratic presidential candidate, has maintained he was drafted by the Kansas City Athletics. . . . But an investigation by the Albuquerque Journal found no record of Richardson being drafted by the A's, who have since moved to Oakland, or any other team. Informed by the newspaper of its findings, the governor...

A law professor who used Senate Minority Whip Richard J. Durbin as a source for a column last month about federal Judge John G. Roberts Jr. -- a column that Mr. Durbin later disputed -- has a taped phone message that he says proves the accuracy of his reporting. "The taped message is consistent with my notes as well as my email and telephone communications with editors," George Washington University law professor Jonathan Turley wrote in a letter earlier this month to Mr. Durbin. "There was never a question as to the accuracy of the [column]. The only issue ever...

I just heard on FOX News, comments by Sen. Daschle who in addition to complaining about the lousey Homeland Security Bill, said that over his years in the Senate he has become concerned about the influence of right wing media, especially talk programs and he named Limbaugh. Fox's political reporter said that in Daschle's comments today, he likened them to the Taliban and the Mullah's who teach hate. Why is it always only the right wing talk shows that are so criticized? Phil Donahue and his ilk preach hatred, not Limbaugh. Please may this too fall his little head.
