SOMETIMES tragic occurrences force us to stop and think – those are the moments that crystallize our perceptions of human relations. I found myself in such a state with the passing of a constituent, friend and fellow conservative who also happened to be gay. Our conversations convinced me that my beliefs in limited government can be shared across the chasms that liberals and conservatives perceive to separate us – ethnicity, gender and sexual orientation. That conclusion is not popular on either side of the left-right spectrum: Liberals don't believe gays should be conservative and conservatives don't believe gays can be...

excerpt from 'FAQ' What is the Communist Party? The Communist Party USA is an organization of revolutionaries working to bring about social change in a conscious, progressive direction. We understand the connection between working for democratic reforms and improvements in living standards today, and building a movement large enough and united enough to create revolutionary change and socialism in the future. We are a legal political party, which runs candidates, publishes a weekly newspaper and a monthly magazine. We organize contingents in most major demonstrations, support workers’ struggles for decent wages and working conditions, and participate in many other ways...

Choosing a new Secretary of Veterans Affairs:Well, Secretary of Veterans Affairs James Nicholson has bailed out for the dreaded 'Private Sector'. Did he jump, or was he pushed?I'd like to believe that he was forced to resign by the groundswell of criticism and complaint by veteran service organizations and veterans themselves. Instead, I suspect that he is deserting a sinking ship due to his consistently inept decisions and policies. His performance as Secretary has been so egregiously flawed that 'on his watch' the Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA) has become an even 'deadlier and more difficult adversary to the American...

Madison, Wisconsin—Since March 2007, Airman Keith Roberts has been imprisoned, serving the first few months of a four-year sentence for five counts of federal wire fraud. Keith Roberts filed for disability benefits in 1999 after being diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) by private and public medical health professionals. Though not nearly as horrific as many, Roberts' Vietnam-era service (1968-74) affected him badly, and includes an incident in which he was assaulted by the Navy Shore Patrol in 1969, and he witnessed a fellow airman killed in a gruesome aircraft accident, also in 1969, at Naples, Italy where he was...

Rudy Giuliani's pirouette around abortion finally landed him on a pro-choice position that no major national Republican candidate has held since 1980. That was when George Bush I, who had backed abortion rights, told Ronald Reagan he could support his party's anti-abortion platform. For Bush even the vice-presidency was worth a conversion. The conversion, as everybody knows, was tribute to the growing political power of the religious right. Reagan, who had signed the California Therapeutic Abortion Act in 1967, at the time one of the nation's most liberal abortion rights laws, didn't care much one way or another. He later...

The reaction to the showdown between Rep. Ron Paul and former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani has been fascinating. Paul suggested that the recent history of U.S. foreign policy endeavors overseas may have had something to do with terrorists' willingness to come to America, live here for several months, then give their lives to kill as many Americans as possible. Perhaps, Paul suggested, the 15-year presence of the U.S. military forces in Muslim countries may have motivated them. For that, Giuliani excoriated him, calling it an "extraordinary statement," adding, "I don't think I've heard that before." Let's be blunt....

County GOP might put gay candidate on ballot Party could attract new supporters with City Council pick Monday, May 7, 2007 By Robert Vitale THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH Republicans who alienated gay voters with the 2004 same-sex marriage ban in Ohio now view them as potential allies in their fight to regain a foothold at City Hall. Franklin County GOP leaders are considering an openly gay candidate to join this fall's City Council slate, a move they hope might peel away support from one of the Democrats' most loyal voting blocs. Brad Sinnott, chairman of the Republicans' county central committee, acknowledged...

DENVER -- When John Amaechi told the world he was gay, he steeled himself for a torrent of negativity that never really materialized, the former pro basketball player told the Republican Party's largest gay organization Saturday. "I underestimated America. I braced myself for the wrath of a nation under God," Amaechi said at the Log Cabin Republicans' annual convention. "I imagined that it would be a firestorm, that it would be some insane number of letters demanding my deportation or my death. "And in fact, 95 percent of the correspondence I've had have been overwhelmingly supportive and positive," Amaechi said....

DENVER - Rudy Giuliani emerged as a favorite among many members of the GOP's largest gay organization, who cited his record on social issues, taxes and defense. However, delegates to the Log Cabin Republicans annual convention said Friday they also fear that the former New York mayor, in his bid to capture the Republican presidential nomination, might be waffling as he reaches out to the more conservative GOP voters who hold sway in the primaries. "Mainstream Republican voters and moderate voters are going to vote for you. Don't tilt to the right," said Frank Ricchiazzi, who helped found the Log...

WASHINGTON — Mayor Giuliani's past support for gay rights may put him at odds with social conservatives, but it is in tune with one small-yet-vocal constituency: the Log Cabin Republicans — a gay GOP group with a history of complicating the nomination paths for the party's presidential contenders. The Log Cabin group claims a membership of about 20,000 gay and lesbian Republicans nationwide and has fought against a federal amendment banning same-sex marriage. Its members have long supported Mr. Giuliani, who as mayor of New York signed a landmark domestic partnership bill that guaranteed the same benefits to gay and...

WASHINGTON - With the presidential election less than two years away, a handful of California lawmakers are already rallying around former New York Mayor Rudolph Giuliani for the Republican nomination. Among them: conservative Reps. Jerry Lewis of Redlands and Devin Nunes of Visalia and moderate Rep. Mary Bono of Palm Springs. Giuliani, whose stance on abortion, gay rights, gun-control and immigration puts him at odds with the party's conservative base, also has won the support of key California conservatives in recent days. They include Bill Simon, a former Republican candidate for governor and longtime friend, and Steve Frank, publisher of...

Robert Bidinotto cannot say the Republican Party lost so badly on Election Day because it had lost its soul. Mr. Bidinotto, a New Castle native and editor-in-chief of The New Individualist, is unsure if this party had a soul. But he is sure it doesn't have a core philosophy. He believes the GOP can recover -- if it's the advocate of the individual. "Conservatives never dared to fully embrace individualism," says Bidinotto, who studied economics at Grove City College in Mercer. "Conservatism has no central defining principle. Conservatives cannot make up their minds if they are champions of the individual...

Rudy Beats Hillary - End of Story Posted by John Armor on Mar 11, 2007, 06:08 This weekend we were at the Conservative Political Action Conference in Washington. All but one of the 2008 Republican candidates were there. The conservatives sought to buttress their support from the right, to seek the support of the whole party. Rudy Guiliani was there to show he doesn't have two heads. John McCain, to his disgrace and harm, did not bother to show. We had a chance to hear the candidates. We came away with an conclusion which we shared with Bill Schneider of...

Platform and positions NAMBLA describes itself as a "support group for intergenerational relationships," and uses the slogan "sexual freedom for all." Google Search of NAMBLA's IP http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=216.220.97.17&btnG=Search One of the group's arguments is that age of consent laws can unnecessarily criminalize sexual relationships between adults and minors (particularly boys). http://www.warriorsfortruth.com/nambla.html In 1980 a NAMBLA general meeting passed a resolution, proposed by Tom Reeves, which said: "(1) The...

Rep. Peter King Endorses Giuliani Rep. Contrary to what the ever vacillating Dick Morris and some others have to say, Rudy will beat Hillary Clinton... Morris thinks that the Mrs. Clinton will win because she will bring new women voters to the polls and that's that, it's over. He frequently muses that she will bring 20 million women to the polls that never voted before and that will sweep her to a huge, record breaking victory. .... will bring in new female voters, but I don't believe she will bring in only new Hillary Clinton voters. I think she also brings in some anti Clinton female...

Thursday, June 24, 1999 -- Pictured are STONEWALL Veterans' Association ("S.V.A.") Ambassadress Cristina Hayworth (up from Puerto Rico) with a Cuban cigar gift for Mayor RWG (which he had to "by law" refuse) and bussing a very amused and fun-filled New York City Mayor Rudy W. Corresponding Secretary (she was still allegedly working on her first memo) Harriet "SchMo" Garblestein. It's the first time we ever saw her smile! The Mayor...
