Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin didn’t wait long to admonish Sen. Lisa Murkowski’s write-in campaign as the senator tries to retain her seat. Minutes before Murkowski took the podium at her planned announcement Friday evening in Anchorage, Palin tweeted that the primary voters had already made their choice for her backed candidate, attorney Joe Miller. “Primary voters spoke. Listen to the people, respect their will; w/a 40-pt incumbent lead & $2.8 million war chest, voters chose Joe instead,” wrote Palin online. "My advice for Lisa is the same for anyone who sees a grizzly in the woods. DON'T RUN,” wrote...

Garching, Germany (SPX) Apr 30, 2008 By an enormous burst of gravitational waves that accompanies the merger of two black holes the newly formed black hole was ejected from its galaxy. This extreme ejection event, which had been predicted by theorists, has now been observed in nature for the first time. The team led by Stefanie Komossa from the Max Planck Institute for extraterrestrial Physics (MPE) thereby opened a new window into observational astrophysics. The discovery will have far-reaching consequences for our understanding of galaxy formation and evolution in the early Universe, and also provides observational confirmation of a key...

The Australian stewardess has told friends she recognised Fiennes, 44, as he soon as he settled into his business class seat, 2K,...

We can learn something about life from the Lisa Nowak story. ================ Poor Robochick! There is probably some high moral reason that I shouldn’t feel sorry for astronaut Lisa Nowak, who is now charged with attempted murder and kidnapping, but I just can’t help it. And lots of people I know are also riveted by this tale, straight out of Desperate Housewives, filled with so many kooky soap-opera touches. The wig. The pepper spray. The diaper. And maybe, worst of all, the object of her affections, a “Top Gun” pilot with the unfortunate nickname of “Billy-O.” Sure, I know that...

He and his wife, Lisa, go down to the eastern shore of Maryland for a getaway weekend, and then, by coincidence, they meet Hubbell and his wife down there. Hubbell, also from the Rose Law Firm, at the time the country's de-facto top law enforcement law officer because Janet Reno in effect was taking her orders from Hubbell. They go over to the estate of Michael Cardoza, who is the son-in-law of Nathan Landau, a big deal Democratic fund-raiser, and Cardoza is also the head of Clinton's legal defense fund. Supposedly, this was all poolside chit chat. Baloney, it was...

A 46-year-old commercial pilot and retired U.S. Air Force reservist said this week he plans to run for the U.S. Senate in next year's election as an independent. Marc Millican, of Anchorage, has never run for political office, and will have to collect 2,329 signatures by the date of the primary election in 2004 to make it onto the general election ballot, according to the state Division of Elections. The number is equal to 1 percent of the votes cast in the last general election. Millican said he wants to run for the seat now held by Sen. Lisa Murkowski,...

In the first three months of the year, U.S. Sen. Lisa Murkowski raised $155,000 for her bid to win a full term in office, according to a filing released by the Secretary of the Senate this week. About $43,000 came from political action committees in the energy, chemical, transportation, mining, construction and finance industries, according to the filing released Tuesday. Sen. Ted Stevens' political action committee, the Northern Lights PAC, gave Murkowski's committee $10,000, the maximum allowed by...

At some point during its 14-year run, The Simpsons turned into one of the best sitcoms on television—and that's not a compliment. At one time, to call The Simpsons the best show on Fox would have been a vast understatement; to say it was the best sitcom on television would have been inadequate; and to describe it as the greatest TV show in history would (and still does) minimize its importance by limiting its cultural impact to the small screen. Who knows when it happened—maybe it was when Homer visited the leprechaun jockeys in Season 11, or when he was...

Predicted by Einstein's theory of general relativity, gravity waves are expected to reveal, ultimately, previously unattainable mysteries of the universe. Wai-Mo Suen, Ph.D., professor of physics at Washington University in St. Louis is collaborating with researchers nationwide to develop waveform templates to comprehend the signals to be analyzed.
