[1 lakh = 0.1 million] Despite advancements in early detection and treatment, many myths surrounding cancer testing prevent people from undergoing timely...

There’s nothing like the magic of getting lost in a good book. Who doesn’t love being dazzled by a fantastical world, riveted by a twisty murder-mystery plot, or emotionally destroyed by an epic ending from the comfort of their couch? But if it’s been months or years since you’ve devoured a book, you might be wondering where that spark went—and if you can ever get it back. First off, there’s no shame in losing your bibliophilic gusto at some point. Thanks to the little dopamine dispensers glued to our palms and endless TV shows competing for our attention, it’s a...

Diabetes can age the brain by up to four years, a new study based on MRI scans shows. There was one silver lining: Healthy lifestyle changes could help prevent that neurological aging, the Swedish researchers said. "Having an older-appearing brain for one's chronological age can indicate deviation from the normal aging process and may constitute an early warning sign for dementia," warned study lead author Abigail Dove. "On the positive side, it seems that people with diabetes may be able to influence their brain health through healthy living," added Dove, a graduate student of neurobiology at the Karolinska Institute in...

At this time of year, a reservation with Chill RV Rentals isn’t usually the easiest to come by. The Los Angeles-based company’s 16-camper fleet is typically booked solid, with the RVs oftentimes reserved weeks in advance. That’s just not the case this year, said Nika Shneyder, who started the recreational vehicle rental business with her father in 2016. Bookings are light; plus, the people who are traveling are taking shorter trips, she said. “We’re definitely seeing demand for RV travel slowed down compared to previous years, and I don’t think it has to do with people coming out [the pandemic]...

Either climate alarmists don’t actually believe the planet is doomed, or they aren’t as confident in that belief as they claim to be.A panel of scientists recently claimed that humans’ effect on the planet is so significant it should be memorialized through the creation of a new geological epoch that began sometime in the middle of the 20th century. As we speak, climate activists are preparing to do what any well-adjusted, functioning adult would do on the heels of such news: glue themselves to a building or throw tomato soup at great works of art. The latest breaking climate story...

The first time Christen Malone picked food out of a dumpster was when her daughter, now 4, was an infant. The baby was a car napper. She would fall asleep and Ms. Malone, a marketing consultant who lives in Beechview and has a cottage in Chautauqua — both were fully furnished for under $2,000 — would pull up behind a Giant Eagle, pick through the trash, throw some produce in the trunk of a luxury car and go on with her day. Dumpster diving is particularly fruitful in the winter, she says, when milk, eggs and other perishables are kept...

Florida’s Department of Health (FDOH) said on Thursday that the number of cases identified so far in 2022 surpasses the five-year average of meningococcal disease cases in the state. It urged college and university students, immunocompromised individuals, people living with HIV and men who have sex with men to get vaccinated against the disease immediately.

My daughter is 24 and graduating college this year. I want to get her a magazine subscription for young ladies. A lot of women's magazines lean heavily left even thought they're not supposed to be political. Can anyone recommend a young women's magazine that's fun to read and that might lean conservative?

Here, life has felt incredibly normal. It's also revealed how abnormal the lifestyle I followed in Virginia really was.OCALA, Fla. — Last Sunday I plopped a steaming hashbrown casserole and a bowl of freshly sliced oranges down on one of a row of endless folding tables covered in those flimsy plastic tablecloths you get at the dollar store. The casseroles were outnumbered only by the pans of homemade cinnamon rolls, and the fruit section was meager: it was a good Southern Baptist potluck. Church ladies buzzed around, removing tin foil from tin pans and putting serving spoons in each dish,...

Concerned about the use of the word "riot" to describe the property destruction, assaults, and looting that have emerged amid the so-called "mostly peaceful" protests in many of this country's major cities, the Associated Press' "Stylebook" wants reporters to stop using the word. According to the newly revised Stylebook, "the word 'riot' connotes a wild, disorderly, and unfocused violence and mayhem. Use of this word doesn't do justice to the underlying grievances that led to the violence and mayhem. A better word would be to describe these occurrences as 'unrest.' Unrest is a vaguer, milder and less emotional term for...

Citing the $15 billion that Broadway show businesses contribute to the New York economy each year, Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer (D-NY) wants the federal government to dip into the pockets of taxpayers "to make up for the losses that ensued after we ordered these businesses shut down due to the COVID menace." The Senator maintains that "now is no time to argue over whether the shutdowns were necessary. What's already been done cannot be undone. Neither is simply allowing these businesses to decide whether it is safe enough for them to reopen their doors. The idea that a largely...

As a layperson or a church staff member, it’s likely you’ve left a church at some point — or will leave a church in the future. When that happens, I hope you’ll remember the points of this post. 1. People will remember how you leave. They’ll forget even the most miraculous works of God to bring you to the church if you leave in a negative way. Even a few weeks of negative can erase years of positive. 2. Those who remain may be wounded if you leave poorly. Especially if they’ve loved and respected you, they may not understand...

One of my children is considering a move to Billings to take advantage of a good career opportunity. However, no one in our family or circle of friends has been there. So I would really appreciate any input Freepers familiar with the area can provide! Thanks much :) *We have lived in Fargo and one of the kids lived in Grand Forks, North Dakota--may be some similarities for comparison....

Fear of the coronavirus is causing shutdowns on a global scale like we have never seen before. Just about every major sporting event that you can think of has been either canceled or postponed, schools and universities are keeping students away, global tourism is absolutely collapsing, churches are being shuttered, conferences and festivals are being taken off the calendar, businesses are asking workers to work from home, and even Disneyland is being closed down. Over the past several days the wave of closings and cancellations has become an avalanche, and all of our lifestyles are going to be dramatically...

The UK government must tell the public small, easy changes will not be enough to tackle climate change, warn experts. Researchers from Imperial College London say we must eat less meat and dairy, swap cars for bikes, take fewer flights, and ditch gas boilers at home. The report, seen by BBC Panorama , has been prepared for the Committee on Climate Change, which advises ministers how to cut the UK's carbon footprint. It says an upheaval in our lifestyles is the only way to meet targets. The government has passed a law obliging the country to cut carbon emissions to...
