New York's Democrat governor Andrew Cuomo recently told listeners of WCNY radio that "extreme conservatives" who are "pro-life, pro-assault weapons, anti-gay" have "no place" in New York State because "that's not who New Yorkers are." Cuomo later tried to cushion the impact of his words by claiming they were aimed solely at "extreme conservatives" among state politicians, and not at New York's mass public. Even if true -- and WCNY's transcript of Cuomo's blast makes that claim dubious -- one wonders what New Yorkers with the "wrong" policy opinions are supposed to do when they have no politicians to support....

Cleta Mitchell, one of Washington’s most respected elections attorneys, told Newsmax she has tangible proof that high-ranking IRS officials in Washington were fully aware of the agency's campaign to target conservative groups for heightened scrutiny, despite their denials. And she thinks the president knew about the practice too. If proven, she said, it could be an impeachable offense. Mitchell, in an interview with Newsmax TV on Tuesday, said she was told by a Cincinnati IRS agent that applications by two of her conservative clients were being processed by—and would ultimately be approved or denied—in Washington. She said she also is...

Presently, Americans find themselves fighting for their own freedom from tyranny under Obama, Pelosi, Reid and the rest of the Democrat-led Congress. The American people have been consistent and clear in their will: kill the ObamaCare bill. We all agree that the Democrats are committing political suicide and a mauling is going to take place in November with the GOP gaining a significant number of seats in Congress–maybe even the long shot of a 2/3 majority to override any presidential vetoes and even impeach Obama and members of Congress. Goals, indeed. [...] There can be no other explanation for the...

....The “establishment” these days is left wing. Look around, from the administration to most of the entertainers on TV, the message is left leaning despite the fact that the country is more right leaning. “The Man” is a leftie tyrant. You don’t dare speak against the system or be scorned by the media and all the yapping chihuahuas of the echo chamber. [....] We, the artists who reject the politics of “the man,” the propaganda of the state. We artists, writers and creative people who are tired of being pushed around and told what to do. Those of us who...

BUNIA, Congo — She's known in the community as a "one-dollar U.N. girl." At night, she sleeps on the cracked pavement outside a storefront. In the mornings, she sashays through the dusty streets, clutching a frayed parasol against the blinding sun. Yvette and her friends are also called kidogo usharatis, Swahili for small prostitutes. They loiter outside the camps of U.N. peacekeepers, hoping to sell their bodies for a mug of milk, a cold soda or — best of all — a single dollar. .....Yvette's story is not uncommon. The United Nations is investigating 150 instances in which 50 peacekeeping...

Just as there is a War on Drugs and a War on Terrorism ongoing in this country, there is a war without such a catchy name that continues unabated in America. That is the War on Guns. And just as the War on Drugs has spent billions of dollars with quite literally nothing to show for it but growing incidences of violence and the highest incarceration rates in the world; and as the War on Terrorism has cost untold losses of liberty to date; the War on Guns has prohibitive expenses all its own. The grassroots forces in the War...

GLOBAL: UN deals with sexual abuse allegations against peacekeepers11 May 2005 17:56:16 GMT Source: IRIN JOHANNESBURG, 11 May (IRIN) - The United Nations has requested funds for hiring additional staff to beef up preventative measures aimed at tackling allegations of sexual abuse perpetrated by some UN peacekeepers. In a report to the General Assembly this week, UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan noted that the number of claims of sexual abuse and exploitation lodged against UN peacekeepers last year was more than double the number reported in 2003. In March the UN released a report by Annan's special adviser on the issue,...

The Anti-Smoking Nazis are at it again. This time, Maryland Attorney General J. Joseph Curran, Jr. and 31 other State Attorneys General have sent a written request to Paramount Pictures asking that an anti-smoking public service announcement (PSA) be included in all DVD movies that depict smoking. Yeah, like there isn’t already enough junk to deal with on a DVD or VHS before I finally get to see the movie. Here’s an excerpt from the written request: Dear Mr. Grey We the undersigned Attorneys General write to request that Paramount Pictures demonstrate a commitment to protect the health of our...

Passport plan won't better border security The Saratogian, 11/20/2005 Imagine having to show a passport to visit a friend or relative or go to a business luncheon. That's what residents along New York's northern border face because of the proposed Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative. While a driver's license or birth certificate is all that's needed now, the initiative would require passports by 2008 at all land crossings into the United States. This is an effort to block terrorists, but it's a stumble in homeland security that ignores actual gaps in border protection. Terrorists tend not to bother with niceties such...

SPOKANE -- Gonzaga University, which has rejected recent attempts to bring a Planned Parenthood speaker and "The Vagina Monologues" to the school, now is under fire for the on-campus appearance of a conservative who contends homosexuality is a matter of choice. The College Republicans brought in Dr. John Diggs for a lecture titled "The Medical Effects of Homo-Sex." Some students criticized the lecture in the student newspaper, the Bulletin, as anti-gay and promoting stereotypes. Diggs' appearance Tuesday was intended to foster open debate and inquiry, said Daniel Brutocao, president of the Gonzaga chapter of College Republicans. The speaker focused on...

HARARE (Reuters) - President Robert Mugabe told the U.S. ambassador to Zimbabwe to "go to hell" on Tuesday, after the envoy blamed the country's economic and political crisis on mismanagement and corrupt rule. State media said the ambassador, Christopher Dell, risked expulsion from the southern African country for his "undiplomatic" criticism of the government in a public lecture. The Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC) said it had asked Mugabe for his reaction to the comments. "The president said the ambassador must go to hell. The president said: 'I cannot even spell the word Dell with a "D" but an "H" and...

FROM: Alan Sears, President A Call to Prayer: Swedish Pastor Faces PRISON for So-Called “Hate Speech” in Sermon… Today, I am asking believers around to world to join me in praying for the trial of Swedish Pastor Ake Green (left) before the Swedish Supreme Court this Wednesday, November 9th. Pastor Green has been charged with committing a “hate crime” for preaching a sermon which presented the biblical position on homosexual behavior. (At ADF, we are suspending all work for a few minutes to pray for Pastor Green). Unfortunately, this “remote” case – on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean...

DEMOCRATIC FASCISM [beware hillary clinton] Written by Dr. Jack Wheeler Friday, 04 November 2005 Lying to a Grand Jury is a very serious crime. We know this because when Bill Clinton lied under oath to a Grand Jury, he was sentenced to 30 years in a federal penitentiary. His fellow Democrats, putting patriotism before party, all agreed that perjury and obstruction of justice were inexcusable violations of law, and that no one, not even the President of the United States, was "above the law." What's that? Bill Clinton willfully perjured himself and impeded the special prosecutor's investigation but got...

It sounds like a Tom Clancy plot. An anonymous group of international technocrats holds secretive meetings in Geneva. Their cover story: devising a blueprint to help the developing world more fully participate in the digital revolution. Their real mission: strategizing to take over management of the Internet from the U.S. and enable the United Nations to dominate and politicize the World Wide Web. Does it sound too bizarre to be true? Regrettably, much of what emanates these days from the U.N. does. The Internet faces a grave threat. We must defend it. We need to preserve this unprecedented communications and...

Once again, the party that thinks it's pro-expression demonstrates that it's not The other week I was on an American Cinema Foundation panel about the Public Broadcasting Service. Filmmaker Mel Stuart, the auteur behind Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory, spent most of his time talking about how important it was to keep PBS publicly funded because it's the only network out there buying high-quality documentaries from codgers like him. At the end of the discussion, I pointed out that having taxpayers finance media will guarantee political meddling and litmus tests, which in fact have been irritating lefties about the...

Mandela wins BBC's 'global election' Former South African President Nelson Mandela has topped a BBC poll to find the person most people would like to lead a fantasy world government. More than 15,000 people worldwide took part in the interactive Power Play game, in which players were invited to choose a team of 11 to run the world from a list of around 100 of the most powerful leaders, thinkers and other high-profile people on the planet. The second choice was former US President Bill Clinton. The winning 11 were exclusively male, with Burmese opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi...

Hundreds of towns and cities across Europe begin a week of events designed to persuade people to choose forms of transport other than cars. More than 900 towns and cities in Europe will be taking part in the annual European Mobility Week event. The high point of the event, the fourth of its kind, will be "no-car days" when towns and cities bar all non-emergency vehicles from the streets. The EU says the theme of this year's event is called Clever Commuting. Cars may have set mankind free but cities across the developed and developing world now groan under their...
