Left-wing journalist and activist Gideon Levy lashed out at Israeli society and its security forces in an interview with British journalist Owen Jones. “If one attack pushes so many Israelis to become inhuman, there's no other word but inhuman, imagine what it does to Palestinians who live under those attacks for decades, and we always wonder how come they hate us and how come they became those monsters and how come they are so violent and how come that they are not human,” he said. “From my point of view nothing changed. That's an outcome of a reality, of people...

Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-WA) was slammed by both Democrats and Republicans Sunday after calling for “balanced” criticism of the Israel-Hamas war when asked about progressives’ alleged silence over Hamas rapes of Israeli women. Jayapal, chair of the progressive caucus, quickly condemned the sexual violence against Israeli women by Hamas militants on Oct. 7 before moving on to note that Israel has killed 15,000 Palestinians — two-thirds of whom are women and children — during an appearance on CNN’s “State of the Union.” CNN host Dana Bash said she has noticed that progressive women have largely remained silent on the horrific...

The Radical Christians are found in rural areas. Their towns are defenseless, they have almost no cops and their firemen are volunteers. They have to borrow cops and firemen from neighboring jurisdictions miles away in order to handle anything big. And they think they are safe out there! Forget burning the cities, we have the cities on our sides. It's time for rural areas to feel the heat. If we show up 100 people deep in every rural home, everything within a 50 mile radius intent on revolution, you'll crash their [white supremacy] system and make them pay.

U.S. Rep. Joe Garcia (D-FL) misstated basic facts while praising communism in an online video conference this week. Garcia, who represents southernmost Florida in the U.S. House of Representatives, told video conference participants, “We’ve proved that communism works. If you give everybody a good government job, there’s no crime.” Garcia made his comments while discussing immigration, border security agents, and crime rates in El Paso, Texas. “Let me give you an example, the kind of money we’ve poured in,” said Garcia. “So the most dangerous — sorry, the safest city in America is El Paso, Texas. It happens to be...

A professor from a public university on Wednesday claimed mass shootings, such as those in Newtown Conn., and Aurora Colo., are often the effects of jilted “white privilege.” Robert Jensen, who is a journalism professor at the University of Texas at Austin, also suggested race-based alienation is a motivating factor behind some parts of the conservative Tea Party movement. “Why are the men who commit mass murder disproportionately white?” Jensen asked rhetorically. “My guess is that it has something to do with the sense of entitlement that most white people feel.”

“This is basically not very interesting stuff,” former Vice President Walter Mondale said of filibuster reform during a talk Tuesday at theUniversityofMinnesota’s Humphrey School of Public Affairs. But it’s a huge issue, Mondale said, because use of the stalling tactic in the Senate is paralyzing the country from addressing everything from the debt crisis and national security to judicial and cabinet appointments. In recent years, the Senate Republican minority has employed filibusters — once rarely used — to stall or kill a long list Democratic bills and presidential appointments. As a result, Mondale said, almost nothing is getting done. “It’s...

The police chiefs of Minneapolis and St. Paul say a proposed state immigration bill modeled after Arizona's law would cause mistrust and have a "chilling effect" in immigrant communities. In a news release issued today, Minneapolis Police Chief Tim Dolan, outgoing St. Paul Police Chief John Harrington and incoming St. Paul chief Tom Smith say that local law enforcement officers should not have to be the primary enforcers of federal immigration laws. The chiefs say such a law would instill a culture of fear in immigrant communities and prevent crime victims and those with information about crimes from coming forward.

Coleman said he issued the order as a protest, following several other cities and organizations that are boycotting Arizona. "This law sets a dangerous example for the rest of the country," Coleman said in a press release. "It will create a culture where racial profiling is acceptable, and will create a dangerous wedge between police officers and the communities they serve."

Police are trying to find out who threw a flammable device at the home of Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer's (R) chief spokesman. Paul Senseman's wife called police around 8 a.m. Monday to report finding a bottle that officers are describing as a molotov cocktail. Peoria police spokesman Mike Tellef says the device hit the garage door and caused minor cosmetic damage but did not ignite the house or garage. Police are unsure whether Senseman's house was specifically targeted because of his work for Brewer. Tellef says police have no leads or suspects and are requesting the help of the public....

Surprisingly, after Obama’s announcement to give $8 billion to High Speed Rail (HSR) projects across the country, popular support for HSR has dropped, but it is still 88%. Not bad. Of course, more money is needed to make HSR the reality people dream of.A new survey shows that 83% of people think HSR and mass transit should be getting more money.A survey in March of last year by HNTB called “America THINKS” found that 94% of Americans were “open to high-speed rail travel for long-distance travel within the United States” and this year’s version of it (conducted last month and...
