I just want to say of course the movie The Shining is on here and there and I've seen people talking about it. I've seen some of it but what bothers me is how come the wife and kid don't feel any sorry for this husband and father of theirs having some kind of tragedy happen to him? I know, he tries to kill her but still if that was your husband wouldn't you think there'd be some emotional attachment to the guy? Some horrible derangement happened to him? I know they're claiming it's possession or something but wouldn't you...

by Jim Clayborn | RNNJoe Rogan, host of “The Joe Rogan Experience,” said during a recent show that he believes that the upcoming midterm elections are going to be a bloodbath for Democrats.Rogan made the remarks while speaking to comedian Bridget Phetasy about the culture of fear that exists in America where people don’t feel like they can voice their opinions without facing backlash.Phetasy said that she believes that a lot of people who buy into the transgender movement do so to “signal” that they’re “part of the high status in-group.”“Yeah, it’s real strange,” Rogan said. “It’s real strange to...

Leon Vitali, the “Barry Lyndon” actor who became one of Stanley Kubrick’s closest associates, has died. He was 74. Vitali died Friday in Los Angeles, his family told The Associated Press Sunday. He passed peacefully surrounded by loved ones including his three children, Masha, Max and Vera. SEE ALSO Leon Vitali and Stanley Kubrick This rising young actor gave up his career for Stanley Kubrick “Leon was a special and lovely man driven by his curiosity, who spread love and warmth wherever he went,” his children said in a statement provided by Masha Vitali. “He will be remembered with love...
  • Was Napoleon the greatest film never made? [Kubrick] [ed]

The Stanley Kubrick exhibition at London’s Design Museum examines the making of every one of the extraordinary director’s films. But its opening section is devoted to a film he didn’t make: a biopic of Napoleon Bonaparte. As odd as that might seem, Kubrick fans are almost as fixated on Napoleon – to use its working title – as they are on anything else in his awe-inspiring canon. Critics regularly hail it as the greatest and most tantalising unfinished film of all. Besides, the story of how Napoleon was nearly-but-not-quite made exemplifies Kubrick’s sky-high ambition, his ravenous intellectual curiosity and his...
  • Lost Stanley Kubrick screenplay, Burning Secret, is found 60 years on

His first world war classic, Paths of Glory, is one of cinema’s most powerful anti-war movies, widely acclaimed as a masterpiece, as was his Roman epic, Spartacus, both of which starred Kirk Douglas. Now a “lost” screenplay by director Stanley Kubrick has been discovered – and it is so close to completion that it could be developed by film-makers. Entitled Burning Secret, the script is an adaptation of the 1913 novella by the Viennese writer Stefan Zweig. In Kubrick’s adaptation of the story of adultery and passion set in a spa resort, a suave and predatory man befriends a 10-year-old...
  • How Kubrick’s ‘2001: A Space Odyssey’ Saw Into the Future

Fifty years ago next month, invitation-only audiences gathered in specially equipped Cinerama theaters in Washington, New York and Los Angeles to preview a widescreen epic that director Stanley Kubrick had been working on for four years. Conceived in collaboration with the science-fiction writer Arthur C. Clarke, “2001: A Space Odyssey” was way over budget, and Hollywood rumor held that MGM had essentially bet the studio on the project. The film’s previews were an unmitigated disaster. Its story line encompassed an exceptional temporal sweep, starting with the initial contact between pre-human ape-men and an omnipotent alien civilization and then vaulting forward...

Directed by Stanley Kubrick. Based on the real life WW1 court-martials of the Souain Corporal Affair. HD video, variable film speed (see post).

I've come across some youtube videos and some articles about how intricately made was The Shining, that it is filled with a hotel layout which doesn't make sense. And that there are clues within that supports the idea he filmed a fake moon landing. While I don't believe the lunar excursion was faked I'm convinced that Kubrick gave an awful lot of thought and effort in his movies. Are there any books or videos you might recommend about Kubrick?

For nearly a century now, Hollywood has inspired generations of Americans with the central truth behind the American Dream: in this country, people are free to choose their own destiny. It’s the moral message found in every film that features the classic Hollywood Hero. Here’s a look at how our movie heroes were shaped by American values, a personal look at how the Hollywood Hero can inspire our lives, and the belief that, despite the rise of explicitly anti-American movies, the Hollywood Hero will continue to ride to the rescue.

Dr. Strangelove," Stanley Kubrick's 1964 film about nuclear-war plans run amok, is widely heralded as one of the greatest satires in American political or movie history. For its 40th anniversary, Film Forum is screening a new 35 millimeter print for one week, starting on Friday, and Columbia TriStar is releasing a two-disc special-edition DVD next month. One essential point should emerge from all the hoopla: "Strangelove" is far more than a satire. In its own loopy way, the movie is a remarkably fact-based and specific guide to some of the oddest, most secretive chapters of the Cold War. As countless...
