Maybe it's time to try a dog. A small dog. The 911 call in Portland, Ore., on Sunday began with a hint of embarassment, or at least of sense of self-awareness: "Yeah, hi, I have kind of a particular emergency here." Particular indeed. The voice on the line belonged to Lee Palmer, who called to report that his 22-pound Himalayan cat had gone berserk, attacked his 7-month-old child, and now had Palmer's family trapped inside their bedroom after the father responded by kicking the cat in the butt. The cat, in other words, had taken the family hostage. "We aren't...

Forget the Seahawks versus the Broncos. There's another big showdown scheduled for Sunday, one that involves ferocious, snarling, amped-up ... and absolutely adorable four-legged furry friends. Yes, for the first time in game-day history, this year there will be both Puppy and Kitten Bowls.

I've long thought that part of why liberals succeed in villifying conservatives is because they're not afraid to use ridicule (whether deserved or not). In the interests of throwing that ridicule right back where it belongs, I offer this unabashed vanity: Photos of two of our cats in a slightly political pose. Please feel free to "steal" these and "occupy" any Internet space you care to with them!

Two tiny kittens who narrowly survived an extended stint on the subway tracks had a big impact on Thursday's commute - shutting down subway service for more than two hours before two quick-footed cops finally scooped them up. Transit workers spotted the furry duo along an open-air stretch of the B and Q line near Church Avenue in Brooklyn at about 11 a.m., prompting officials to cut the power and suspend service for about two hours. A transit supervisor "tried to corral them" but was eluded, said a Metropolitan Transportation Authority spokeswoman. Sandra Polel, 52, was heading home when her...

Jay Carney is Grumpy Cat. Or Grumpy Cat is Jay Carney, whichever way you want to look at it. The White House press secretary and the world’s grumpiest cat both share a permanent frown and scrunched up face. Here are seven photos that prove the pair are more than just doppelgängers.

If the "cat" fits... wear it! That's presumably what staff at an Indiana bakery say — after they confused the word with "cap" and inked a cute kitty on a graduate's portrait cake. Carol Gambrel, 59, was left in fits of laughter when, picking up the tasty treat, she saw a cat sitting on top of her daughter Laura's face.

OREGON CITY, Ore. – A soldier from Oregon City and a feral cat from Afghanistan might be one of the world’s best pairs. They both saved each other’s lives, although the soldier is probably the only one who will admit that. Sgt. Jesse Knott met the stray cat while in one of the roughest, most dangerous places on earth. He was stationed at an Army base in southern Afghanistan when he noticed the feline roaming around the rugged base. He was a handsome cat, but had open wounds – deep cuts and blood. “I remember he came limping out from...

One of our cats (LT - short for Little Thing) got out the other night while taking out the dogs. She is a very special cat and we have spent a lot of time trying to find her. Please pray for her safe return. If those on the kitty ping list have any suggestions that may lead her back home, I would appreciate it. We leave the garage door slightly up at night with food hoping she'll find her way. Picture below.

An 8-year-old Utah boy wrote a letter to his local newspaper after an animal shelter worker failed to write a note to save his cat from being euthanized. "Yesterday grown-ups killed my kitty, my best friend, when they weren't supposed to," he said. The letter appeared in The Herald Journal, of Logan, on Thursday.
