Harrowing scenes from a young girl's birthday, in which she and other children were allegedly surrounded by naked adults, were recounted during testimony Wednesday in a pedophilia trial that has horrified France. Alain D., one of 66 people accused of involvement in a pedophilia ring, recalled the day a child named Marine V. turned 6, adding more chilling testimony to the trial. Most of the defendants deny any wrongdoing. Investigators say 45 children — aged 6 months to 14 years old — were abused by parents or acquaintances from 1999 to 2002, in some cases in exchange for small amounts...

Imagine a hypothetical situation where a team of vicious thieves plots an exceptionally violent bank robbery in the downtown financial district of a major city. Numerous anomalies are noticed during the commission of this crime. The bank tellers are not able to send out an alarm to the police even though banks have numerous hidden silent alarms for foiling robbery. The guards at the bank somehow take much longer to call the police for assistance than they have done on previous occasions, raising questions among bank customers whether orders were given to the the guards to "stand down" and not...

More than a dozen traumatized John Kerry supporters have sought and received therapy from a licensed Florida psychologist since their candidate lost to President Bush, the Boca Raton News learned Monday. Boca Raton trauma specialist Douglas Schooler said he has treated 15 clients and friends with “intense hypnotherapy” since the Democratic nominee conceded last Wednesday. “I had one friend tell me he’s never been so depressed and angry in his life,” Schooler said. “I observed patients threatening to leave the country or staring listlessly into space. They were emotionally paralyzed, shocked and devastated.”

To the Editor: Reading "A Blue City (Disconsolate, Even) Bewildered by a Red America" (news article, Nov. 4) left me feeling an unexpected kinship with the people of New York. I live in rural Maine, as culturally and aesthetically distant from Midtown Manhattan as I can be. I go weeks without hearing a foreign language, or even an accent; no one would mistakenly call my corner of the world "cosmopolitan." But I, and a majority of Mainers, share New Yorkers' feelings of disbelief over President Bush's re-election. It is inconceivable to us that millions of Americans would trivialize or deny...

Last Updated: Monday, 1 November, 2004, 23:16 GMT Bomber's family condemn militants The bomb was detonated in a shop in a busy Tel Aviv market The mother of a teenage suicide bomber who blew himself up and killed three Israelis in Tel Aviv has criticised the militants who recruited him. More than 30 others were wounded when 16-year-old Amer al-Fahr detonated about 5kg of explosives in a shop in the Israeli city's busy Carmel market. The leftist Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine said one of its members had carried out the attack. Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat was among...

Fox News reports tonight: 'To shouts of "Death to America," Iran's parliament unanimously approved the outline of a bill Sunday that would require the government to resume uranium enrichment, legislation likely to deepen an international dispute over Iran's nuclear activities.' Americans should consider well the choice that lies before them on Tuesday. A nuanced, global-test-taking, UN-approval-seeking Senator with a multi-decade record of making the wrong choices on matters of national security - or a principled leader with a track record of handling the unexpected with decisiveness and resolve.

Was out for an evening walk in my town. Hoboken, NJ Spotted three people carrying stacks of kerry/edwards signs. They were going into each and every business along Washington St and asking store owners to display the signs in their windows. I shadowed them for a while and went in every store they went in, after they left the store. I inquired if the store owners/employees were accepting the signs. A few did. Luckily the few that did admit to taking the signs know me as a customer. I told them that I give my patronage to them in the...

VIENNA, Austria - The U.N. nuclear agency said Thursday it warned the United States about the vulnerability of explosives stored at Iraq (news - web sites)'s Al-Qaqaa military installation after another facility — Iraq's main nuclear complex — was looted in April 2003. Melissa Fleming, a spokeswoman for the International Atomic Energy Agency, told The Associated Press that U.S. officials were cautioned directly about what was stored at Al-Qaqaa, the main high explosives facility in Iraq. Some 377 tons of high explosives — HMX and RDX and PETN — are now missing from the facility, and questions have arisen about...

A huge electrical tower with a severed leg triggered homeland security concerns Wednesday, but officials said they have found no evidence of terrorism or tampering. FBI agents and the Dallas police explosive ordnance squad scoured the area for evidence on how the damage occurred. A lawn-mowing crew was working in a parkland area near Walnut Hill Lane and Fair Oaks Avenue when it noticed that one of the tower's legs had been cut and then called police. FBI Special Agent Lori Bailey said investigators are not ruling out any possible causes, but she cautioned that the break in the 150-foot-tall...

It came as a shock to me when a U.S. truck platoon of the 343rd Quartermaster Company refused orders to hit the road and deliver essential supplies to their comrades. Their reason: the trucks weren’t adequately maintained and the unit didn’t have adequate escort protection for the mission. As the 18-member Army Reserve platoon was placed under arrest for their refusal of a “suicide” mission, the Army rapidly shifted to damage control mode — “It’s an isolated incident . . . we’re investigating . . . the goods have been delivered.” The initial press positions differed. The reports reiterated that...

Some rather large Bush/Cheney campaign signs have gone missing, and Washington County Republican leaders are losing patience. So much so that some believe there is a "concerted effort" to remove or deface them, and the Republican Central Committee is offering a $500 reward for information on who might be responsible. "I think it's probably not the Democratic party organization locally," said Mark Boyer, head of President Bush's campaign for Washington County. "I think it's some frustrated Kerry supporters. "The thing is, it has to be a concerted effort," he said. "You need a truck or a van to move them."...

Even for the DemocRATS, this is a low blow. Just when you think they couldn't get lower in the gutter, they have broken through the pavement and burrowed down into the sewer. A caller on Laura Ingraham's show just commented that she received a call that is being used to target military families. (Paraphrasing) -- We are sorry to inform you that your husband is dead...........this is the message you will receive if George Bush is re-elected. Laura is hoping that someone will be able to get that recorded message so it can be exposed for all to see. They...

So who are Kerry's supporters?

WRITTEN BY LT.COLONEL CHARLES WADE Wednesday, October 13, 2004 Even before the primary elections, President Bush’s military service was a political issue as was Senator Kerry’s military service which he touted and others questioned. Reporters continue to seek comment from candidates, political operatives, and pundits. It seems that everyone is an expert, and everyone has an answer. Some of the more interesting responses have come from Republican senators who typically begin by asserting that they honor Senator Kerry’s Viet Nam service, but… Honor: What is that all about? What virtues are honorable? More important, what virtues are both militarily and...

Tonight, on the AL RANTEL SHOW, a caller - who is a manager at a local Blockbuster - said that they had TWO HUNDRED AND EIGHTY-EIGHT copies of FARENHEIT 9-11 and only EIGHT copies of Dick Morris' FarenHYPE 9-11. Al's reply "Fair and Balanced at Blockbuster, eh?"
