Preliminary data from Russia's Finance Ministry showed that the country's fiscal surplus shrank to 55 billion rubles ($860 million) in the first nine months of the year, down from 137 billion roubles ($2.15 billion), Bloomberg reported. Olga Bychkova, an economist at Moody's Analytics, told Newsweek that the Russian government surplus is 30 times lower, when compared to the same period last year.... She predicted the government budget would post a modest surplus of 0.6 percent in 2022 on high energy prices but flip to a deep deficit of around nine percent in 2023 due to limited growth, imports, and the...

After the two world wars in the 20th century, mapmakers were kept busy redrawing boundaries. Empires disappeared, new countries were born, and power alliances shifted radically. No matter what happens in Ukraine going forward, a weakened Russia cannot “win” in any conventional sense of the word. They may gain a little territory, but at such a horrific cost in money, men, and prestige that their status as a “superpower” will be questioned — even though their nuclear stockpile will (hopefully) remain intact.

On September 21, putin announced an open mobilization in the rf, which he called partial. Perhaps, it would have frightened the Ukrainians, but for their previous experience of fierce resistance to the enemy. In February-March, we were confronted to no draftees who had never seen combat. We were confronted to the strong elite units. Nevertheless, the Ukrainians haven’t lost heart. They have done the impossible. We have collected historical footage in chronological order to remind of the courage and invincibility of our soldiers.

NATO will push ahead with long-planned nuclear exercises next week despite rising tensions over the war in Ukraine and President Vladimir Putin’s insistence that he is not bluffing about using all available means to defend Russian territory, NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg said Tuesday. The exercise, dubbed “Steadfast Noon,” is held annually and usually runs for about one week. It involves fighter jets capable of carrying nuclear warheads but does not involve any live bombs. Conventional jets, and surveillance and refueling aircraft also routinely take part. Fourteen of the 30 NATO member countries will be involved in the exercise, which was...

NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg said on Tuesday that "Ukraine has the momentum" in the war with Russia and the Western defence alliance would stand with Kyiv as long as it takes. "While Russia is increasingly resorting to horrific and indiscriminate attacks on civilians and critical infrastructure, President Putin is failing in Ukraine," Stoltenberg told a news conference on the eve of a meeting of NATO defence ministers in Brussels.

Leaders of some of the world’s largest economies reiterated their commitment to Ukraine and condemned Russia’s escalating aggression following a virtual meeting Tuesday morning, vowing to back Ukraine for “as long as it takes.” “We will continue to provide financial, humanitarian, military, diplomatic and legal support and will stand firmly with Ukraine for as long as it takes,” the G-7 group of nations said in a statement. “We are committed to supporting Ukraine in meeting its winter preparedness needs.”(snip) “We condemn these attacks in the strongest possible terms and recall that indiscriminate attacks on innocent civilian populations constitute a war...

Back in March I had warned that Lies Do Not Win Wars. Here is another practical example. After allegedly having 'run out of missiles' and, more importantly, patience, the leadership of the Russian Federation decided to de-electrify Ukrainian cities with a 'barrage of missile strikes'.But first came the propaganda blubber:320 missiles in a day: Russia targets short-range ballistic missiles at Ukraine; what is the result? - WION - Mar 2, 2022 Russia running short on guided missiles, firing indiscriminately - Ukraine - Jerusalem Post - March 17, 2022 Russia Running Out of Precision Munitions in Ukraine War Pentagon Official - US...

ahead of meeting of his Security Council tomorrow - but the Kremlin tries to plays down Western fears retaliation will include nuclear weapons Russian president Vladimir Putin says the explosion at the Kerch bridge in Crimea was 'an act of terrosim' The president said today the blast was 'devised, carried out and ordered by the Ukrainian special services' He made the statement a day before he is due to meet with his top defence chiefs in his Security Council The bridge had been a pet project of Putin's after the annexation of Crimea in 2014 and key in the war...

Boy, looks like I missed the hysteria. Instead of thumbing my way around the internet to catch the latest news on the complete devastation of Russia’s Kerch bridge that unites Crimea with Mother Russia, I was at a gun range being trained by a retired Delta Force operator. He is a hell of a teacher.Needless to say, my time was better spent (and cheaper) compared to what Ukraine spent on its spectacular failure to destroy the Kerch bridge. Failure? Yes. The initial images of a veritable Dante’s furnace, complete with rolling clouds of black smoke and frantic tongues of flames...

More than 15,000 randy Ukrainians are literally planning to go out with a bang in the event of a nuclear attack on their country. That is the number of people who have signed up to an online invitation on the Telegram messaging service to join in an orgy on a hill outside Kyiv if Vladimir Putin reaches for the red button. The mass sex party would take place at Shchekavystsa and those attending would be invited to decorate their hands with stripes to denote their carnal preferences – three stripes would be for anal sex enthusiasts and four stripes for oral sex...

What a difference a decade makes. There was a time when the United States would talk to Russia with at least the pretense of respect. Remember this exchange between then Russian President Dmitry Medvedev and Barack Obama? That was then. Mr. Medvedev is singing quite a different tune now. He made this public statement yesterday:It is useless and unnecessary to appeal to the prudence of our enemies in the West, the enemies must be forced to ask for mercy in the lost economic battle and end it with their complete and unconditional surrenderI do not believe that Dimitry Medvedev was drunk...
