...President/GM John Davison commented, "This will be a tough change for both of us because Larry has meant so much to KABC radio over the years. We part with KABC's respect, gratitude and best wishes for what we believe will be a very bright future given Larry's many talents." (translated: get out of the building, we need ratings)(laugh)

Yesterday, Larry Elder's radio show completed its fifteen year run on KABC in Los Angeles. It's hard to believe, but the "Larry Elder Show" is done. His departure from the airwaves - announced only the day before to the shock and disappointment of his legion of fans ("El Dorados") - puts a serious hurt on the talk radio genre.I don't think I can overstate it.I adore Larry Elder, and I will miss him.He was as unique as he was entertaining - a libertarian (with a small "l") who broke ranks with big "L" crowd on foreign policy. He dubbed...

After 15 years on KABC-AM (790) in Los Angeles, afternoon drive host Larry Elder told his listeners on Thursday that Friday will be his last day. Elder said “We've been together in joy & sorrow. Good economies & bad. So it’s with sadness I must tell you that KABC management & I have decided that (Friday) will be my last broadcast on KABC.” Elder left a message on his website, but did not release any details. KABC announced that Al Rantel will take over afternoon drive (3-7pm), followed by the syndicated Curtis Sliwa from 7-10pm local time, the syndicated Mark...

Has Al Rantel flipped out? He's be getting more and more far out as time goes on. He doesn't fear Obama. He does fear Sarah Palin because she said that the VP runs the Senate. Read the constitution, Al. Click on the link and judge for yourself.

LISTEN ONLINE TO KABC Ron Cogan, editor and publisher of Green Car Journal, is one of the top automotive writers in the country. He is often quoted on MSNBC and newspapers. Ron will be discussing with Al Rantel the Green Car of the Year, which his magazine names each year at the L.A. Auto Show. I've done some writing for his newsletter and magazine and worked on several ride and drive events. It was at a ride and drive a few years ago in San Francisco where I nailed Arianna Huffington caught in a Chevy Suburban. She was mocked...

NOTE: it was a great broadcast, speech, and dinner. I would vote for the Sage from South Central for the Senate or Calif Gov in a heartbeat. I'd work for his campaign. When asked about a future run last night, he said that "The door is ajar on that." Larry is now in possession of HILLARY! UNCENSORED. Larry Elder to broadcast from Reagan Library From staff reports Sunday, April 27, 2008 The Larry Elder Show will broadcast live from the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library and Museum's Presidential Learning Center on May 9 from 3 to 7 p.m. As the broadcast...

Al Rantel, for whom I've been filling in, has announced that he has been diagnosed with a highly treatable form of lymphoma and is now undergoing chemotherapy. I'll read his announcement letter on the air at the top of the 7pm hour. If you like, feel free to leave your messages here for Al, and the KABC website also has a place for updates and where you can leave your best wishes. Al's a great guy and considers his listenership his family. Please send your prayers and best vibes to him through this difficult time.

Does anyone know what has happened to Al Rantel, the evening guy on KABC talk radio in Los Angeles? Tammy Bruce is beginning her 3rd week of subbing for him, and I think I heard her mention last week that people were all wishing he pulls through. Is he seriously ill? I can't find out anything from any of their websites. I'd like to pray for him or send him a note, but I was wondering if anyone knows what is going on. Thank you.

KABC weekend host Rob Nelson interviewed Los Angeles mayoral candidate Walter Moore during the 5pm hour. When it was time to take calls, the first caller posed a challenge to him that was obviously inspired by the Reconquista mayor's affair with the Telemundo reporter covering him (literally). For those who don't know, the reporter, Mirthala Salinas, was actually the anchor on the air announcing the break up of Villaraigosa's marriage. I wonder if that was a TV first. Caller question: "Walter, I know of at least one candidate who will not take the pledge, but will you take a pledge...

A year-long feud between a talk radio personality and an L.A. charter school is ending up in an unusual court case. School administrators filed a lawsuit this week against KABC-AM (790) and Doug McIntyre, alleging the host of "McIntyre in the Morning" targeted the school in a slanderous, racially motivated campaign last summer that resulted in a bomb threat to the school and ongoing security risks. Academia Semillas del Pueblo and Marcos Aguilar, the El Sereno school's co-director, claim McIntyre "targeted the school for destruction because the children were Latino, the teachers were Latino, the principal director was Latino," according...

The artist formerly known as Mr. KABC, Marc Germain joins KTLK as part of a major overhaul of AM1150. Beginning Monday, Mr. K will work afternoon drive for the station. "Los Angeles is the Number One radio market in the world and demands compelling live/local drive time talk. With Marc's Los Angeles track record [KFI and KABC], coupled with the current success of The Stephanie Miller Show, I now know KTLK AM1150 is set to fulfill that demand." stated Don Martin, program director. “I will have a producer/sidekick,” said Mr. K by phone yesterday afternoon. “Her name is Lisa Goich....

SANTA YNEZ, Calif., September 26, 2006 - Southern California broadcasting pioneer Ralph Story has died. The Emmy award winning reporter and anchor lost a long battle today with emphysema. Story started in broadcasting in Buffalo in 1948 and went on to work at KNX radio in Los Angeles in the late 1940s. He then moved to CBS's sister TV station in Los Angeles, KNXT, now KCBS-TV in the early 1960s. Story was a part of "The Big News," one of the nation's first hour long local newscasts, working as the newscast's feature reporter. The popularity of his segments led to...

A radical Hispanic group is promoting a boycott of the Walt Disney Company because, contends the Mexica Movement, the entertainment giant "has made a habit of hiring talk show hosts who spread the Minutemen white supremacist racist agenda." The boycott announcement specifically cites radio legend and Presidential Medal of Freedom winner Paul Harvey, as well as popular talker Doug McIntyre. Both Harvey and McIntyre are nationally syndicated by ABC, which is owned by Disney. McIntyre was instrumental in exposing a taxpayer-funded Los Angeles school backed by radical groups that lay claim to the Southwestern U.S. As WND reported, the principal...

Mexican politicians continuously demand more visas for their citizens, an expanded guest-worker program, and "regularization" of illegal aliens living north of the Rio Grande. While neglecting to mention that the United States admits nearly one million legal newcomers each year, they also fail to publicize: (1) the extremely high salaries they receive, often—in the case of federal and state legislators—more than their counterparts in developed nations that have substantially longer annual sessions, (2) the generous stipends that they grant themselves, including year-end aguinaldos and end-of-term bonuses of tens of thousands of dollars known as bonos de marcha, and (3) the...
