OAKDALE — The lurching gait, an unfocused glare out of black-rimmed eyes, growls from behind bared teeth – the zombie advanced, the undead unleashed among the living. Laser rifles crackled to life. Cellphones whipped into view. Her prey drew back against the rail-car walls. Grins and shrieks followed the creature’s every move until the train doctor intervened, snapping on a neck harness and leading her away from the crowd. This was the thrill riders came for, had driven hours for, shelled out $35 to $50 for, on the early Oakdale Zombie Train on Saturday. “I was looking for a dinner...

He's the "social media president," having been the first one in the modern era to take full advantage of the ways the Internet can connect politicians to people. But a new study reveals that 70% of President Obama's 19 million twitter followers are completely fake. President Obama's Twitter account has 18.8 million followers -- but more than half of them really don't exist, according to reports. A new Web tool has determined that 70% of Obama's crowd includes "fake followers," The New York Times reports in a story about how Twitter followers can be purchased. "The practice has become so widespread...

Merry Christmas and Happy Hanukah. My gift is a take on "I'm Dreaming of a White Christmas," a humble effort to localize the classic tune to the beat of San Francisco's unique politics. Happy holidays, and thank you for the gift of your indulgence. I'm dreaming of an S.F. Christmas, Where every Christmas is PC, Where no Meal's Happy, Naked guys use nappies, And the Mayor is "still" Ed Lee.  I'm dreaming there'll be no Jesus, Menorah or nativity. All public spaces Are protest places Reserved for Occupy tents and pee.  I'm dreaming of an S.F. Christmas With every column that...

Found this rock formation on Google Maps that looks like a cat, and thought it was interesting. The letter 'N' also appears to be carved into the rock just to the left of the "cat." Another interesting land formation in the same area is the "hand of God glacier." http://www.panoramio.com/photo/3426890 Both of these land features are near Quttinirpaaq National Park, Baffin, NU, Canada

  • PlayOnLyrics top 20 worst lyrics

At PlayOnLyrics we like to play around with misheard lyrics. Occasionally, however, you wish you had misheard a lyric, or can’t believe what you just heard. Back in the day, one time Tonight Show host and hack musician Steve Allen used to read out lyrics from popular songs just to make fun of young musicians. That used to bug us. Taking lyrics out of context can be a distasteful and irrelevant exercise by the smug and untalented. After all, “The Doo Ron Ron” is a great song about nothing. But, sometimes lyrics are just so bad you just have to...

On another thread the subject of neoptism of hollywoodies came up, and it seemed that it might be interesting to pool knowledge about who in Hollywood broke into the tight movie union because of their connections. Who's Whose Kid in Hollywood Nicholas Cage is Francis Ford Coppola's nephew. Anyone who saw him in Peggy Sue Got Married KNOWS he only got hired because of his uncle. He got to learn by being an apprentice in the trenches--that's a gift. Kate Hudson is Goldie Hawn's daughter.Gwennie Paltrow is the daughter of Bruce Paltrow and Blythe Danner.

I wanted to share a brief Saturday Night Live skit I saw this weekend because of an amusing tidbit. In this skit, the cast portrayed a number of make-believe resignations in the Bush administration. In the last part, the skit used a scenario where Scott McClellan resigned as press secretary and the White House replaced him with a snippy teenage girl (portrayed by host Lindsay Lohan). Lohan’s character held a press conference where she made life difficult for the press corps. She belittled the reporters, brushed off their questions, and acted visibly bored about having to talk to them at...

Just for fun, I am introducing this thread for Freepers who have much interest in the Supreme Court. I thought it would be interesting to take a look at some of the influential justices of the mid-to-late twentieth century, so I have provided a list below naming some of the most prominent justices of that period. I’d love to get reactions from fellow Freepers regarding some of these justices and get an idea of some favorites and least favorites. Obviously, I know very well what harsh words nearly all members will have for the left-wing justices! LOL In an effort...
